Katy Perry Responds to Criticism After Space Trip with Powerful Message 25 Apr 4:41 AM (6 days ago)

Katy Perry is addressing the buzz and backlash following her recent trip to space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket.

The pop star joined Lauren Sanchez and Gayle King as part of an all-female crew launched just beyond Earth’s atmosphere in a short but headline-making 11-minute mission. The high-profile flight has drawn mixed reactions, especially after Perry’s emotional return, during which she kissed the ground in a dramatic Instagram post.

“It was very profound,” she wrote. Critics weren’t impressed. Joe Rogan poked fun at her response, joking that she’s “basically a guru now,” while even Martha Stewart shaded the singer for overreacting.

The backlash hasn’t gone unnoticed by Perry, who subtly addressed the controversy during a concert in Mexico on Thursday. “Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?” she asked the crowd, clearly referencing her lifelong dream of going to space, a goal she’s been open about. In a pre-launch interview with Elle, Perry said she’s been pursuing commercial space travel for nearly two decades.

Despite the personal significance for Perry, many onlookers questioned the intent and optics of the mission. Some criticized the billion-dollar price tag and the idea of framing the trip as a meaningful step for women in science. Model and activist Emily Ratajkowski slammed the flight, saying it “optically looks like progress” but ultimately reflects life in an “oligarchy,” where a small elite indulges in luxury space tourism while most people struggle with everyday necessities.

Still, Perry remains undeterred. During the same show, she invited two fans dressed in blue spacesuits onstage, saying, “They are dressed like my most current timeline.” It was a playful nod to the launch and perhaps to the scrutiny she’s faced.

Though critics argue the mission was tone-deaf or performative, Perry seems to be embracing the experience and doubling down on her dreams. Whether her response inspires or annoys, it’s clear she’s not backing down from this otherworldly chapter in her life.

Jason Clarke Transforms Into Alex Murdaugh for Hulu’s The Murdaugh Murders 4 Apr 4:35 AM (27 days ago)

Acclaimed actor Jason Clarke looked unrecognizable as he stepped into the role of convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh for Hulu’s upcoming mini-series The Murdaugh Murders. Filming took place in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday, where Clarke, 55, sported Murdaugh’s signature bright blonde hair and a noticeably bulkier physique.

The Terminator Genisys star was seen wearing Murdaugh’s signature khaki trousers, a button-up shirt, and a tie during a scene outside a Frontera Mexican Kitchen. Between takes, Clarke relaxed in sunglasses and slide sandals while the crew set up shots. His casting was announced in December 2024, following Patricia Arquette’s confirmation as Margaret Murdaugh, Alex’s late wife.

The series is based on the 2021 double homicide in South Carolina, where Murdaugh murdered his wife Margaret, 52, and son Paul, 22. Prosecutors revealed that Murdaugh ambushed Paul at the family’s dog kennels, shooting him twice, before firing five shots at Margaret as she fell to her knees on June 7, 2021.

On July 14, 2022, Murdaugh was indicted on two counts of murder, pleading not guilty. Following a highly publicized trial, he was convicted on March 2, 2023, and sentenced to life in prison the next day. In addition to the murders, he was ordered to pay $9 million in restitution for defrauding clients of millions through financial schemes.

Despite breaking down in court and apologizing for his actions, Murdaugh received another 30-year sentence for his financial crimes. His legal downfall, once the subject of documentaries, will now be dramatized in Hulu’s The Murdaugh Murders, offering a closer look into the scandal that shocked America.

Reddit Horror turns in to a Hollywood film starring Sydney Sweeney scripted by Ocsar winning writer 24 Mar 3:32 AM (last month)

In a new development, Bros has revealed plans to develop the hit Reddit short story “I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl” into a feature film, with Sydney Sweeney to star and produce. The script will be written by Eric Roth, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter behind “Forrest Gump,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Dune”

First published on Reddit’s r/nosleep forum in 2021 by Massachusetts high school English teacher Joe Cote, the tale is about a drifter who poses as a missing girl to steal from her family but discovers she has made a terrible error. The story became widely read online, and it was found by talent manager Aaron Folbe of Underground Entertainment, who got Cote’s representation.

Sweeney, known for her work on “Euphoria,” “Anyone But You,” and “Immaculate,” is set to produce the movie via her own production banner, Fifty-Fifty Films. She was instrumental in getting Eric Roth on board the project, which clearly shows how dedicated she is to working on interesting stories.

This film is just another example of Hollywood taking viral internet tales and bringing them to the big screen. Other such examples include 2018’s “Slender Man,” based on a character that was created on online bulletin boards, and 2021’s A24 release “Zola,” taken from a widely popular Twitter thread.

Aside from her work in “I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl,” Sweeney is also to star in and produce a number of upcoming titles. These include “The Housemaid,” a thriller directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, and “Scandalous!”, a biopic on actress Kim Novak’s secret affair with Sammy Davis Jr. Sweeney’s hands-on approach to production that indicates her commitment to maintaining creative control over her works.

The remake of “I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl” reinforces the increasing practice of drawing inspiration from online forums, emphasizing the viability of internet stories to evolve into mainstream entertainment. With Sweeney on board and Roth’s experience as a screenwriter, the movie will be able to take the sensational Reddit story to the masses.
