Android Vs iOS 2014: The Differences Speak For Themselves 26 Dec 2013 10:33 PM (11 years ago)

When shopping for phone or tablet consumers will have a variety of choices that would determine which brand which model they will choose. Things like price, size and brand are rifling through a customer's had with her shopping for their device.

One of the larger deciding factors between choosing a specific phone or a specific tablets, is the device is operating system. The two main sources in today's market place for mobile devices is between iOS and Android. What I'll try to do in this article is to outline the major differences between both of them and how each difference can be a strength and also a weakness. This wills hopefully your first time buyers a good overview of which operating system is best for them.

Overview
Android is the chief operating system for variety of smartphones are manufacturers like Samsung and LG at HTC is owned by Google and its applications are mainly dealt with through the Google Play Store. IOS is the chief operating system for apples mobile devices which include the iPhone, the iPod Touch and the iPad and the recently-released iPad Mini. Its major app distribution framework is done through its App Store, the largest on the market.

App Store
The Apple App Store is by far the largest on the market. Lion's share of apps are dedicated to iPhone what is the introduction of the iPad and 2010 has been a steady increase the fraction of apps available for the iPad. Well Apple has dominated in in the amount of apps, Android is steadily catching up. So much so that it is much more difficult to find an app on the App Store that doesn't have an equivalent for the same app on the Android store.

Specific decisions for specific applications specific apps may be a deal breaker for some customers choosing between the two. Apple specific apps like Face Time and iMovie might be the reason why some customers choose the Apple ecosystem. It can be said that there are much more apps found in the Apple App Store that are not found in the Android App Store. Inversely, there are not many apps in the Android App Store that can't be found in the Apple App Store.

Design Framework
One design element that is true for Android when compared to Apple is that Android follows a much more open operating system. What this means is that anything really goes in terms of how are user will go about using an Android app. Compare to Apple the user experience is much less unified across its App Store.
Within the Apple ecosystem users will be navigating and using apps in a very similar way. Apple has designed it to be this way. Its curated App Store favors apps which fall into its larger design scheme, and while different apps may have very different applications, users familiar with the Apple app experience will have a easy time navigating through all of them.

This is not a complete downside for Android. The open a nature of its operating system means that designers have a lot more freedom when designing apps dynamic features of applications can be implemented much more easily than apple's ecosystem.

This is why widgets, which are reusable elements of a graphical user interface, for example having your weather appear on the home screen, became much more popular and widespread on the Android operating system before they made their way to Apple.

One can argue that new breakthroughs on the mobile operating system platform will be much more likely to happen on Android as opposed to iOS due to its open nature.

What's right for the average consumer?
For average users the Apple learning curve is much lower compared to Android. Is this authors: humble opinion this is way too many things going on for Android for first time users to acclimatize to. Apples grid of applications is a simple way to navigate your apps and use a mobile device.

For users use to having at least one smartphone in the past Android is a very nice option because it has caught up to the Apple experience over the years. Users are freer to customize the user experience on Android and specific devices can be geared for user’s individual experience.

Forces And Trends Driving Mortgage Industry 29 Oct 2013 12:13 AM (11 years ago)

Over the 2010-2012 period, a huge part of mortgage origination came from home patrons trying to refinance their current mortgages to profit from record-low rates and as well as from government-led initiatives. While the refinancing channel seriously drying up over subsequent months with very few mortgage eligible for refinancing still remaining, rates began rising towards the end of Q2 2013 because of which refinancing the mortgages no longer remained a profitable option for homeowners.

With the era of “easy refinances” in the past, lenders have started working to increase their purchase-mortgage origination. For example, in Canada, three out of five homeowners are saddled with mortgages. Historically, Canadians have been very practical borrowers, and the best indication of this is the mortgage-in-arrears statistics in Canada, which track the number of households that have not made mortgage payments in three or more months.

Statistics Canada found out that a significantly larger percentage of renters are overextended than homeowners in this country. That's one of the more noteworthy findings in its National Household Survey (NHS) data released this week. See mortgage rates in Canada online  for detailed information.

The Canadian mortgage market has changed substantially in the past 20 years: trust companies have been taken over by banks; small virtual banks have offered new mortgage products; and brokers now play an important role in matching borrowers and lenders. But in many ways it’s harder being a renter.

The government has changed mortgage requirements several times over the last few years which affect how people may qualify for government-backed insured mortgages. As the regulatory environment changes, banks in Canada continue to offer very competitive mortgage products and services to millions of Canadians.

Less than half of one per cent of all mortgage holders with the country's largest banks are in arrears. This number has been stable for more than two decades, in times of high and low unemployment, high and low interest rates, and a strong or weak Canadian dollar. The findings of the research conducted by The Bank of
Canada  recently are consistent with a model where consumers have different preferences and skills when shopping and bargaining for a mortgage and where lenders maximize profits based on observing these preferences and skills. The results indicate that high-income borrowers pay more for their mortgages, as do loyal consumers, consumers who search less, and those that value large branch networks. However, the unobserved bargaining ability still appears to play an important role in determining mortgage rates.

Trading Oversimplified By Online Platforms 13 Jun 2013 2:14 AM (11 years ago)

Identifying the best purchasing opportunities in unpredictable markets can be quite challenging and requires a lot of time and informational resources. However, there are many services offering to complete the pre-investing work for you. May you be searching for a Delhi Mobiles or a vacation rental service, you no longer need to go out and do it physically, call friends and relatives, or other members of your reference groups for opinion and experience- these all can be found at once, and you only need a proper device with internet connection for it.

Despite many companies are offering paid assistance, there are free online platform of classifieds available as well, performing with the same success. For those who are new to the online trading or don't understand all the stock market jargon, these platforms boast with intelligent and intuitive features, keeping all necessary information handy so you don't have to painstakingly browse multiple windows and take well-informed and timely decisions effortlessly.

You could be anywhere, anytime and still manage to place your trades through the internet or by using, trade on phone facilities. With the three main advantages, including convenience, available information and reviews and wide price selection, there is no simpler alternative to solve the complications involved in selling, buying, trading, discussing, organizing, and meeting people near you than doing it online. As mentioned above, one of the great benefits of online decision-making is the ability to read product reviews, written either by experts or fellow online shoppers, and these “consulting service” is completely free. Knowing that the reviews are provided by ordinary people, just like you, and are driven by the pure experience, and not the economic benefits, makes them more credible to the reader’s eye.

In addition to online reviews, peer recommendations on online shopping pages or social media websites play a key role for online shoppers when they are researching future purchases. The fact that  40% of online shoppers indicate that they would not even buy a thing without consulting online reviews first, the free online platform of classifieds have definitely moved to the next level.

Businesses Planning For Big Year In Online Advertising 21 Jan 2013 2:00 AM (12 years ago)

As internet usage figures continue to rise, the internet is becoming increasingly important as a marketing channel. eMarketer, a market research firm that monitors digital media and internet marketing data, announced that digital ad revenues exceeded $102 billion in 2012 with this number expected to increase in 2013 and beyond.

Digital marketing budgets in 2013

Following impressive performance in 2012, many businesses are preparing to increase their online marketing budgets in 2013.

Market research firm ‘C.I. Marketing’ recently released a report stating that 35.7% of marketing managers at a number of large and medium sized businesses are planning to increase their online marketing budgets in 2013 compared to 10.8% in 2012.

Naom Raz, C.I. Marketing’s owner, also stated that marketing budget allocations are being moved from traditional forms of advertising to direct advertising on social networks and other online advertising channels.

Social media

2012 was the year that social networks made their mark as effective marketing channels. Youtube, Facebook and other social networking sites experienced unprecedented success with many businesses eschewing traditional advertising in favour of advertisements on these social networking sites.

In their report, C.I. Marketing stated that social network spends increased from 28% to 38% between 2010 and 2012, a trend that is unlikely to reverse any time soon. The report also stated that, of the 42 managers surveyed for the report, 28.6% will be increasing their social network budget for 2013.

Pay Per Click

Another key marketing channel in 2012 was pay per click advertising, or ‘PPC’ for short. According to C.I Marketing’s report, PPC advertising accounted for 32% of online advertising budgets in 2012 compared to 21% in 2010. It’s likely that PPC advertising will account for even higher percentages of online advertising budgets in 2013.

Rising digital ad budgets

Less than 20 years ago, digital ad media budgets were non-existent. Today, online advertising accounts for one fifth of all marketing dollars.

eMarketer expects this meteoric growth to continue unabated with double digital percentage increases in digital ad spends until 2015, at least. By 2016, eMarketer believes that online advertising spends will account for one quarter of all marketing dollars.

Unsurprisingly, eMarketer believes that most online advertising will focus on North America and Western Europe. These two areas already command the lions share of online marketing dollars with $168 being spent to market to each North American internet user in 2012 and $112 being spent to market to each Western European internet user in 2012.

eMarketer expects digital marketing to surge in Asia and Latin America in the future, too, with Indonesia, Mexico and India, in particular, experiencing a great deal of growth.

2012 was the biggest year for online advertising yet. As internet usage figures continue to grow, this figure will, without a doubt, continue to rise as increasing numbers of businesses make use of the new opportunities afforded to them through online advertising on social network sites and PPC networks.

Questions To Ask Potential Cloud Solution Providers 21 Jan 2013 1:56 AM (12 years ago)

Researchers from the QMUL Cloud Legal Project at the University of London recently shared their findings on the top issues of contention between providers and customers of cloud computing engagements. As enterprises speed headlong into cloud migrations, many of the trickier and complicated contractual and legal obligations are still being worked out. Although cost may be a major consideration in choosing your cloud provider, responses to the following questions are also important.

1. Who’s liable for damages?
Interruptions in service usually entails the right to be compensated for lost business. On the cloud landscape, however, providers mostly refuse to accept liability. Even large corporate customers had problems getting a provider to accept any monetary liability, which often turned out to be “deal breakers” in the end.

2. What about SLAs?
Service Level Agreements commit a provider to availability and performance levels, and are often negotiable through adjustments in pricing; the more you are willing to pay, the better guaranteed performance.

3. Does availability extend to data?
Cloud providers often emphasise how redundant and fault-tolerant their clouds are, but often fail to extend their guarantees to data integrity, and will not accept liability for data loss.

4. Where is the physical data storage location?
The European Union’s Data Protection Directive prohibits storing of data outside of the EU. Some cloud providers are unwilling to disclose their data centre locations, and there are also technical difficulties verifying where the data processing occurs even if they do.

5. How can I avoid lock-ins and exit when needed?
Some cloud providers are asking for huge early termination penalty fees, no doubt in order to offset upfront capital costs spread over the term of the contract. There are also limited “notice windows” for non-automatic contract renewal, so make sure these are not missed before the contract rolls over into another term.

6. Who maintains data for legal and compliance issues?
There hasn’t been much discussion around the need to retain data for legally required purposes, but this will become increasingly important in the future. How much assistance (long term data storage and data format exchange) cloud providers are willing to provide may be a differentiating factor in the future.

7. What happens when service offerings change?
Standard contractual terms drafted by cloud providers often give them the option to change certain or all contractual terms unilaterally. This may cause difficulties in adapting to new provider specific application programming interfaces when things change.

8. How are intellectual property rights maintained?
When cloud providers with system integration capabilities develop applications for their customers, one customers may demand intellectual property rights to these enhancements and deny the improvements to other customers who may be potential competitors.

9. What are the reasons for service termination?
Non-payment usually results in direct service termination, but more complicated cases involving complaints of one user against another for breach of intellectual property rights can also lead to termination. Providers also stipulate termination may occur for breach of acceptable use policies and any form of material breach.

7 Tips To Improve Customer Satisfaction 15 Jan 2013 12:09 AM (12 years ago)

Customer satisfaction refers to the degree to which customers are happy with a company’s services and products. Needless to say that increasing the levels of customer satisfaction is essential for any modern business as happy customers are much more likely to become dedicated buyers.

Companies like Argos and Cadburys enjoy high levels of customer satisfaction, which is not surprising as these enterprises ground their business operation on thorough market research and analysis. Follow the lead.

#1. Find out what the customer wants. Getting this valuable information is easy with free survey software available on the web. Using quality software allows creating simple customer-focused surveys without spending much time and money.

#2. Estimate levels of satisfaction. The starting point for any business improvement strategy is estimating the actual levels of customer satisfaction. Getting five points out of ten undoubtedly means that the customer will be looking for a new provider, while six to eight points mean that you should improve customer satisfaction factors.

#3. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Include the corresponding questions into the survey to determine what aspects of your business operation need to be improved. Remember that the speed of response to enquiries, lack of innovation, and product quality are the key drivers of overall customer satisfaction.

#4. Respond to the customer’s needs. After carrying out a survey, respond to the customer’s feedback promptly to demonstrate your clients how much you care about their needs. Launch customer hotlines to ensure the most urgent issues are being dealt with immediately.

#5. Choose the right management. Keep in mind that the company’s management should participate in the increasing customer satisfaction programme.  The management involvement means that improved customer satisfaction is not just a new policy of a single person or group but the whole organisation’s new philosophy. It’s also important to put someone responsible in charge to ensure that the new business improvement plan is followed.

#6. Come up with the right goals. Ensure that each area of your customer satisfaction survey has its own goal, which makes it easier to track the results later. The final customer satisfaction goal should identify the level of impact in advance. For instance, try to plan how much customer satisfaction improvement you expect by the time the next survey is carried out.

#7. Measure your success. Make sure that the programme brings results but avoid annoying customers with dozens of surveys. Experts advise carrying out global customer satisfaction surveys annually to be able to see the improvements. Thus, Suddenlink, a reputable cable company, runs an annual study on the overall customer satisfaction and experience at each point of contact.

All things considered, high levels of customer satisfaction are linked to your revenue. There are many factors that contribute to customer satisfaction but one thing is obvious – customers appreciate when they are made to feel special and valuable.

Nintendo 3DS Releases: The Months Ahead 14 Jan 2013 11:35 PM (12 years ago)

As we move into 2013, Nintendo 3DS is likely to face challenging times. Having been around for about 2 years now, competitors of this console are multiplying in the form of ever-so popular smartphones, which support increasingly powerful processors and can now run all sorts of games. Nintendo’s answer will come the usual way: new games, and loads of them, too. Here’s some of our favourite titles to be released in the first few months of 2013.

With release date set for February 8th, Wreck It Ralph is the console’s big name for the second month of the year. Already a film based on videogame characters, Ralph’s cinematic success is likely to boost the sales of its Nintendo counterpart. This is a good old-fashioned platform game, the kind that Nintendo has been doing best since Mario’s heydays – a safe bet for all young players looking for some adventure.
Talking of safe February bets, Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed will bring the fastest blue hedgehog under the spotlight again, and will give you a chance to compete in some of the wackiest races of recent video gaming history.

On with more dangerous titles, we’d like to signal Castlevania: Mirror of Fate (March 8th). The game will see prodigal son Trevor Belmont come back to avenge his mother, who had been slayed by his father. But is his dad is not just anyone: he is in fact a vampire called Dracula…

Less scary, but just as adventurous are the realms of Naruto. In Naruto: Powerful Shippuden, which will also be released on March 8th, players will take part in ninja fighting with an anime twist, continuing the tradition of one of the most successful animation titles of recent years.

But the real star of the month of March is likely to be Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. Keeping Mario’s brother busy with ghosts and ghouls, this title picks up from the GameCube days and is set to be an eerie and thrilling experience with three haunted mansions to explore.

As the year goes on, there are more 3DS you’d better keep an eye on, from Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Quarter 2), to King of Pirates (release date TBC) and Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright (also TBC).

5 Tips for Choosing Mobile Phone Insurance 28 Nov 2012 2:41 AM (12 years ago)

A few years ago (depending on how old you are), mobile phones were an exclusive technology restricted to Sci-fi movies and advanced military hardware. Today, mobile phones are literally everywhere. The newer models feature nifty techy gadgets that have become indispensible to our lives. It has become our phone, camera, hard disk, music player, internet browser, games console, library, map and so many other functions. Think about the pain and torture that you would face replacing all those contacts and photos if your phone disappears! No wonder more and more people are choosing their phone as the “thing they would save from the house if it was burning”.

If your phone is a top of the range priced phone, you should consider taking out mobile phone insurance. Additionally, if you caved in to your teenager’s demands for a pricey techy phone, then consider taking insurance for their phones too. Here are the top five guidelines for choosing the right insurance for your phone.

1. Shop around
When you buy your phone, you will most likely be offered “free” or “discounted” insurance these days. Do not take your smiling salesperson’s claims seriously. There is always a catch with these: either it is only free for a short period, or the discount limits the coverage. Go shopping around for insurance. Usually, you will find smaller insurance agencies have much better rates since they are trying to attract business. Mobile phone comparison sites like Ezee Mobile Insurance allow you to do this easily and find the very best rate.

2. Read reviews
There is nothing as frustrating as faithfully making your insurance payments, only to be disappointed when you go to claim. Find out from others whether the insurance provider you have chosen is worth the fuss. Do they have a knack of squirming out of insurance claims? Do they take a few years to respond? Is their customer care worth what you pay for? A little research on the internet should clear this things up.

3. Insure in bulk
Most of the time, you will find that the larger your insurance policy, the better the rates. If you have several phones in your family, consider covering all of them under one insurance policy. This will save you the money you would spend on individual insurance for each phone.

4. Stretch your existing insurance cover
Sometimes, you don’t need to take on a new insurance policy. You may be able to extend your existing insurance policy on your home and items to cover your mobile phone. This actually may make it even cheaper since you can cover other precious electronics. Having all your insurance policies under one roof also makes it much easy to manage, as you can go to your one provider for mobile insurance, home insurance, travel insurance, car insurance and any other insurance!

5. Read the details
Insurance is a tricky business, it is always in the fine print. READ the fine print. Do not commit to a policy you haven’t read. Make sure that you are sure about their policy. Do they guarantee an instant replacement in case of loss? Do they cover the cost of restoring your lost data and apps? What claims do they not cover? What is their stand on repairs? Make sure you find out these BEFORE you sign on the dotted line.

This is a guest post from John at Malta Holidays, a man who knows the importance of insuring your mobile having lost many on his travels!

4G Gives Boost To Mobile Gaming 13 Nov 2012 3:50 AM (12 years ago)

Once EE launches the first 4G service in the UK the online gaming industry is expecting to see a huge boost in the number of people accessing a mobile casino. The new network will be available in a number of cities including London, Manchester, Bristol, Sheffield, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Cardiff. Then over the coming years it will be rolled out over the entire country. It is anticipated that around 98% of the population will be able to access it within the next five years.

As well as providing an increase in mobile broadband speeds it will also reach rural areas which cannot access current 3G services along with some which cannot currently access broadband over their normal telephone lines and are still stuck with poor quality dial up connections. Certainly it will be a game changer for many sectors of the economy, and none more so than mobile gaming. Even given the restrictions of current 3G services playing games at http://www.luckynuggetcasino.com/au has become very popular, and mobile gaming is the biggest growth area in the whole of the gaming industry.

So what is the appeal of mobile gaming? Fundamentally it is the convenience of being able to play games such as roulette, blackjack, slots and poker while on the go. Online gaming is a great escape and relaxation, and an ideal way to while away the time on your way to and from work. Naturally you need a good phone with a decent display and a reasonably fast processor, or alternatively you can play on a tablet computer and with the new models that are coming to market prices are being driven down. Certainly anyone considering upgrading their phone should ensure that it is 4G enabled. Current 4G phones include the iPhone 5 along with a number of the latest Android and Windows 8 phones.

Playing Poker On iPhone For Best Gambling Experience 16 Sep 2012 10:21 PM (12 years ago)

Games have been an enormous driver behind the triumph of the iPhone, with many people using their smartphone by Apple more as a handy gaming device than as an actual cell phone. Playing online poker is one of the best poker gaming experiences the gaming industry can offer, while playing poker on your iPhone is definitely the most convenient gambling option available so far. Click here to find out iPhone poker sites of your choice!

For a number of years Apple declined to promote real money gambling apps in the App Store.  Many supposed that this was down to Steve Jobs prudish nature as he was very straight against apps of a pornographic nature, uttering that they would never be permitted into the iTunes App Store. There has been a great controversy about the legality of iPhone gambling, till apple issued a statement, saying:

“3.3.17 Your Application may include promotional sweepstake or contest functionality provided that You are the sole sponsor of the promotion and that You and Your Application comply with any applicable laws.”

The "applicable laws" part evidently addresses harsh rules overriding gambling in certain places, but in the virtual world, those "certain places" are hard to police. Casino and poker apps have been some of the most popular since the very launch of the iPhone – and one of the very first apps ever settled was Apple Texas Hold'em poker! But most of the poker rooms were offering their games based on Adobe Flash, which is not supported on iPhone. However, there is always a way out- to let their players gain instant access to their poker games, online poker rooms started developing either Safari-compatible apps, or launched dedicated downloadable apps for iPhone gamblers. Fortunately, there are now numerous options available for each and every adult iPhone user to play poker on their devices.

Customers Still In The Dark On Cyber-Crime, Warns EU Agency 10 Sep 2012 11:08 PM (12 years ago)

As the world falls prey to internet crime, many users are still oblivious to this sad reality. Internet has utmost importance in today’s world and many economies will prosper only if they keep their head straight and secure their information or could be prone to losing much more than mere money.

The current situation in EU
The current economic situation in Europe isn’t very pretty, considering loss of billions of dollars and rise in computer security breaches reported by small to large scale firms, which the companies are not reporting, trying to avoid a panic situation in the continent.
According to statistics conducted by an EU body, nearly 71% of their business, industry and government are dependent on the internet for its prime operations and in case these breaches are not checked, the whole European Union could experience extreme disaster.
The recent European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) emphasized on a sequence of supervisory breaches in European Union’s cyber laws. Conclusively, ENISA confessed that the security breaches are concealed and are not shared with the media and community.

According to the report there were five chief cyber events which completely went unacknowledged, including a major 'IP hijacking' case in which China Telecom nursed inappropriate routing information inculcating the United States of America and other global internet measures via Chinese servers absorbing over 15% of universal internet practice in fewer than twenty minutes.

In another report, Dr Marnix Dekker and Chris Karsberg conceded that “cyber incidents are most usually retained secret, leaving customers and policymakers in the black about incidence, influence and derivative causes.” The report further briefed that the "nonexistence of clearness and absence of evidence about events makes it problematic for strategy manufacturers to comprehend the inclusive influence”.

Beneath the European Union Telecoms notion implemented in 2009, amenity providers are mandatory to report "entirely substantial security fissures" to ENISA and general data administrators. Temporarily, requirements of the lately approved e-privacy instruction necessitate service providers to imply altogether security intervals cooperating individual facts.

To top it up, ENISA exposed that it had established 51 event reports for this year, implying that it would distribute a summary of cyber-security fissures in September and yearly reports from spring 2013 forwards.

Internet Security and its stance
Only a few years ago, around 7 per cent of the universal populace was consuming the internet. The iPad, iPhone and other tablets had not been designed and major internet corporations were still in transit. The European Union had merely 15 affiliated states; there was no mutual currency and no international fiscal disasters. There were no smartphones with spy applications, such as mobile spy and Mobistealth. Expansions in the cybernetic world will be far quicker than in the actual world and we will instantly complete the influence of decent and depraved progresses. Three unsolicited changes can be singled out. Intimidation, intelligence and systematized crime will mature and take control of the virtual world. Of course there's also the problem of malware such as iPhone spyware and Android spyware.

The European Cybercrime Centre has got strong leadership on its responsibilities and duties and this can be read in detail in the European Cybercrime Centre that issued its own operational verdict, “Our primary task will be assisting member states in preventing, disrupting, investigating and prosecuting cybercrime. For, organized crime networks are increasingly migrating and developing their traditional criminal activities from the off-line world to the online world”.

Safety Measures For Your Smartphones 5 Sep 2012 11:20 PM (12 years ago)

With evolution from cell phones to smartphone, communication has not only become easy, but also simpler and beneficial – offering more ease and functions, making users more dependent on them for most of the activities – even replacing the computers to a certain extent. Owing to the function of smartphone in our lives, it can safely be said that the contain lot of information, which needs to be kept safe – users’ login details of various accounts, emails, photo gallery, contact details, text messages. These things are invaluable and if lost, it is impossible to retrieve them – which require extreme caution on the user’s part.

Theft Of Data And The Phone
Smartphone need to be looked after in two ways – first of all it should be kept saved physically like taking care of a wallet; secondly the data needs to be protected from any kind of theft. In order to keep the phone safe, the user needs to be very careful with whom wants to use the phone and how it is being used – be very particular if the other person is not installing spyware or a key logger on to your phone – making them accessible to data saved in the phone.

A recent survey done on the use of smartphone has revealed some interesting facts – statistics show only 38% of users of smartphone have the phone lock engaged. Now, this is a basic and oldest way of keeping the phone safe from intruders.

Keep Away From Spywares
A survey conducted in 2011 revealed that 90% of the Android users have not updated version of their operating systems – this is extremely important to have updated version of software. These versions are meant to update the software of the smartphone – fixing or improving vulnerabilities that may have been present in the previous version – keeping the phone protected from different threats.

Several applications are available to counter the threats of Android spyware – depending on the suitability of the phone, install the anti spyware application for protection. The anti-spyware application acts as an armor against the malicious or infected malwares which the user may have unknowingly downloaded and installed on the smartphone. Users ought to be extremely careful with their devices as both major smartphone platforms, Android and Apple have already been hacked – make sure there isn’t any malicious app moving around freely in your phone. Another way to avoid these damaging malware is to avoid downloading and installing apps which have negative reviews about their security.

A Word Of Caution
Be very careful before installing any new app into your smartphone – read the reviews of the app and get the complete information before downloading the app. Free applications are those that one should always be vary of – getting hold of the data becomes the easiest through these notorious, free applications. Another safe way of avoiding malware is to stick to app store that installing apps from an unknown source.

Using Technology To Your Advantage At Exhibitions 2 Aug 2012 2:11 AM (12 years ago)

Once you’ve chosen your exhibition stands and objectives for the exhibition, it’s time to figure out how you’ll go about attracting visitors to your stand. Here are some ideas, centred around technology, that you may consider. This article is written on behalf of Marler Haley, who provides a range of exhibition supplies, and have many years’ experience in the field.

Video

Using video is a great tool for catching the eye of passers-by, and need not increase the budget of your exhibition stand too much. Because of the nature of the event, a short looping video that communicates succinctly what your business does is best – a 15 minute short film won’t work because people most likely won’t stop to watch, and the message will be lost.

What should be in the video?

Imagery that works well without sound – there will be a lot of speech and background noise at the stand so relying on sound isn’t advisable!
Information that corresponds with your objectives: If you’re unveiling a new product/service, give visual information about that product/service. If you’re generating leads, perhaps display quotes from testimonials from existing customers. Coherency is important!
Eye-catching visuals: this doesn’t mean manic flashing lights, but rather something unusual or attractive that will make people stop and look.

Holographic

Previously in the domain of sci-fi films and cartoons, holograms are now becoming a reality, but have you considered having a hologram at your exhibition stand? Admittedly it might not be as cool as the 2-Pac hologram that performed at Coachella, but a holographic version of one or several of your products can be an excellent way of engaging visitors to your stand. Bear in mind that this method of attracting attention to your stand will cost more than others, but its merits may be greater!

Interactive: Informative

With handheld internet-ready devices getting smaller and cheaper all the time, it’s increasingly feasible to include these in your exhibition stand. Not only can these reduce demand on the staff at your stand by giving visitors opportunity to read around your company website and literature, they are also hugely informative in their own right.

Another benefit to your company can be achieved by allowing visitors to your stand to ‘like’ your page on Facebook or to ‘tweet’ information about your company. This can be incentivised by acting as an entry to a competition, affording the mutual benefit of giving visitors a chance to win, and letting them spread the word about your company.

Interactive: Fun

The devices mentioned previously can also be used to play games and watch videos – why not create a basic game about your company that visitors to your stand can play? Perhaps they could unlock discount codes or special offers if they get a high score? This again has mutual benefits as it increases interest in your company (people will be interested in the game and come and investigate), and gives visitors the chance to earn discounts and special offers.

To summarise

Using technology in your exhibition stand can incentivise visitors to come to your stand, and can be mutually beneficial if carried out successfully.

Technology in your exhibition stand can attract visitors’ interest and draw more people to your stand
If you decide to use video, use short, succinct film that will catch the eye and make sense if not seen throughout.
Try to think of ways to incentivise visitors sharing information about your company – perhaps through a competition where ‘liking’ on Facebook acts as an entry?
Aim for mutually beneficial technology – something that will interest visitors and also benefit your company
Most of all, have fun!

How Safe Is The Ladbrokes Android App 24 Jul 2012 10:23 PM (12 years ago)

For a company as large and as technologically cutting-edge as Ladbrokes, it is inevitable that its IT department will be a vast, often multi-location operation, encompassing a variety of roles and particularly mediums across which the IT system is maintained, for example personal laptops and smartphones.  One could ask why this matters when assessing the safety of an individual product such as the Ladbrokes.com  Android App? The answer is simple: if the base systems and technology from which these products are maintained is unsafe or inherently flawed, then so too will the products themselves be.

Fortunately, Ladbrokes has taken great steps to streamline and secure their IT operations, according to Global Chief Information Officer Mittu Sridhara.  In an interview with Computer Weekly, Sridhara stated he wished to create individual-platform support; that is, that thier Android app users would have a dedicated support team to help them with any queries.

However, of most interest to those concerned with potential App security hazards, were Sridhara’s words on how they handled IT ‘consumerisation’: the use of personal devices such as smartphones by IT staff. Though this made their work easier and more efficient, Sridhara acknowledged the danger that IT technicians could potentially take devices with customers’ personal details out of the office and lose them, but that Ladbrokes had taken preventative steps to limit any such security leaks.  Sridhara stated ‘Employees can bring their own devices, but we can wipe them if they lose their devices if they contain any sensitive information.’  He also announced that the company had migrated to Google’s secure enterprise e-mail platform, confirming that the security of its customers’ information was a Ladbrokes priority.  This emphasis on security is one that Sridhara hopes will trickle down into the development and maintenance of all their products in the 21st century, in particular mobile apps.

Making Business Happen: Best Practice For Exhibitors 16 May 2012 5:00 AM (12 years ago)

The opportunity for any business to succeed in generating leads and sales at an exhibition is extremely high; however opportunities rarely come around without taking a little risk. Like any promotion your product and services are facing your audience and your businesses reputation is on trial. If you are exhibiting a new phone for example and a potential customer happens to be using the product and it breaks down, that client is not going to have a very good perception of either that product or your business.

Researches have looked into the ways businesses and people interact at trade shows greatly, it’s been found that there are two levels of interaction at an exhibition. The first is a superficial interaction between the visitor and the exhibitor which mainly relies on judgments made on the physical appearance of the exhibitor. The second is a behavioural aspect, this is the way a person represents a company. The way they act and the manner in which they undertake work is heavily judged by visitors and often the first person who they interact with is seen as the face of the company in the visitor’s minds.

Research has shown that the visitors preferred exhibitors who wear lively and catchy colours such as purple, green or red and are more likely to attract people to their stand than those wearing grey or white. Its seems that quirky colours can contribute to the success of your stand and people who prefer quirky exhibitors have been found to describe them as having that "certain something".

When leading an exhibit and selling your business it all comes to behaviour and attitude, you need to realise that selling at an exhibition does not just take expertise of the company and the products; it also takes great interpersonal skills. Visitors seem to dislike unknowledgeable exhibitors as they are seen as time wasters, you know the saying: time is money. By having every one of your staff well educated on your businesses products and services you should be able to great enthusiasm amongst your visitors. Being comfortable can ease tension and create a warm and friendly atmosphere around you exhibition stands, never be afraid to make a joke and use ice breakers with attendees.

Without the right display to wow and surpass attendee’s expectations you can struggle to attract your audience towards your product.  When at your new exhibition stand it is vital that you put on a good performance, when you are selling your product or service remember you will be face to face and voice to voice with business men and women from around the world. Being able to control your emotional activity and stress levels is vital as you do not want alienation any potential customers. It is always best to approach you audience with a smile and a hand shake (whenever possible) and have a pre-planned script to air to your passing audience.

Many businesses do not understand how tiring exhibiting can be, long hours, high footfall and tiredness can leave you feeling unmotivated and unfriendly. It is recommended to have enough staff on hand to have enough breaks and to talk to your audience; you ever want to be in a situation where you have to rush to finish speaking to one potential customer as you have one waiting. By having presentations and information around your stand you are offering your potential clients effortless information. It is impossible to talk to every attendee so be sure to bring enough information packs, products and promotional material.
When looking to attract visitors to your stand a good tip is to look for and choose keywords that require particular emphasis. It is certainly useful to give these words a little enthusiastic push in order to get people queuing at the stand.

The first impression is certainly the most important one and there is no definitive way of attracting people to an exhibition stand so having an original, classy mix of professional attitude and inter-personal selling skills can be a great place to start.

Apps View: Nokia Lumia, Android & iOS 18 Apr 2012 11:15 PM (13 years ago)

Nokia Lumia is Windows phone. So, choosing Lumia is all about choosing Windows Mobile OS over iOS and Android. Is it a right choice? Does Windows mobile OS make any sense?

Right now world of mobile OS is witnessing a steep fight within Windows Phone7, iOS and Android. We don’t think any of them lame. However, no one can claim the crown hands down. So, we will try to see which mobile OS gives us better deal across the fronts.

Availability of device
This is a major decisive factor and Android is the best in terms of affordability. Thanks to Google, you get almost hundreds of Android-ready phones across almost every price points. iOS and Windows Mobile OS are limited to only handful of devices. Unlike Apple, Windows phones are more in numbers but most of them are pretty expensive. So, just like iOS, Windows mobile OS is also not well-affordable.

Availability of software apps
The close competitors are, of course, Android and iOS. In case you want no-nonsense apps and ready to pay for them, go for iOS. Arguably Apple holds the best range of apps at this moment. Android apps are fast catching up. You get lots of free to share apps but not all of them are very efficient.

Compared to iOS and Android, Windows Mobile is a late starter. So, you get only handful of apps on windows platform. However, Microsoft is wooing app-developer community to increase availability of software apps on its platform.

Third party unapproved apps
There is no legal version of iOS or Windows Mobile that allows unapproved third party apps. That could be a problem if you want full freedom regarding software usage on your mobile OS. There are jailbreak iPhones and Windows Phones but they are not always very reliable. With Android you have completely no restriction. However, it’s also true that very few of those unapproved third-party apps are actually useful.

Cloud computing integrated
It is pretty common term today and allows you to store data seamlessly. Apple offers in-built access to iCloud on all its mobile devices; currently free of costs. It is easy to use, allows to store and sync contents of any type.

Android OS phones do not allow cloud facility directly. However, you can use third party services available like, box.net and Dropbox. Microsoft has its SkyDrive cloud computing facility. However, no windows mobile phone comes preinstalled with this service. You have to install from market.

Voice Control
Apple has its Siri. It’s at any point the best voice activated control system. However, right now you get it only with iPhone 4S. We believe in due course, Siri will be available across other iOS mobile devices.

Android is still not in comfortable position as far as voice activation is concerned. Microsoft has ‘Tellme’; but that too suffers from accentuated language. That means you are limited by options and accents. Apple allows you to use natural accent freely.

Multitasking
This is a factor, on which all the three mobile OS performs well. There are arguments and few prefer Android over other two. However, there is not much visible gap.

So, no single answer we have right now. In case you are not limited by budget, Nokia Lumia is surely a better device with user-friendly interface from Microsoft.

You may also like to know where to find cheap mobile phones.

The European Debt Crisis: Two Ways that Savvy Investors Have Benefitted 12 Apr 2012 5:13 AM (13 years ago)

Long-term interest rates of
Euro-zone countries
World leaders continue to put pressure on Europe to form a solution to the sovereign debt crisis. These leaders assert that the unstable Eurozone poses a significant threat to the global economy. The consequences of this crisis are far reaching and even affect such varied industries as financing an auto loan or modular homes for sale. Several factors contribute to the looming threat of the European debt crisis including the tendency of emergencies to become dire when a timely solution is not reached. Also problematic is the “one size fits all” strategy that prevents diverse European nations to develop individual solutions. Although this crisis has reached epic proportions, some savvy investors have found ways to profit.

As history demonstrates, a widespread financial emergency becomes more severe when a timely solution is not found. Several factors have challenged the ability to come to a swift resolution of the European debt crisis. The one currency model of the euro has dissuaded countries with a healthier economy like Germany from coming to the table. Politics have also challenged a solution to this crisis as national leaders combine efforts to balance the economy with election strategies and political agendas. However, the inability to reach a swift solution is not the only challenge facing member of the Eurozone.

Some experts surmise that the current economic crisis felt throughout Europe is the effect of a “one size fits all” financial system applied to individual nations in the Eurozone. The governments of the sixteen nations of the Eurozone are varied and diverse. This is characterized by the wide gap in the rates of unemployment different countries report. A country’s first line of defense against widespread financial trouble is an increase in interest rates, but Eurozone countries are barred from this strategy as they are subject to interest rates determined by the European bank. Although this economic crunch is felt on a global level, some investors have found a way to profit.

Although the European debt crisis accompanies hardship and uncertainty, some American investors have found it offers a unique financial advantage. According to 18th century nobleman Baron Rothschild, “The time to buy is when there’s blood in the streets.” US investors who tout Rothschild’s business philosophy look for ways to benefit as European companies feel the pressure to divest assets. US investors can benefit when European companies struggle for financial assistance. The uncertain times of the European debt crisis have also spawned resurgence in the public’s interest in gold.

The financial crisis that has engulfed much of Europe has created a unique opportunity for gold investors. In times of economic unrest and fear, the public likes to invest in tangible assets like gold. Crowd psychology is a major determining factor in the valuation of stocks. Gold investors can take advantage of the shaky public opinion of the euro and encourage clients to invest in gold: a surer bet.

Global leaders hope to find a solution to the European debt crisis that has had a widespread negative effect on the global economy. Although this financial unrest has had far reaching consequences, a number of investors have found a way to benefit from the uncertainty.

Anonymous Shuts Down U.S. Tear Gas Company Website 15 Feb 2012 2:09 AM (13 years ago)

The latest victim of Anonymous hackers’ movement has become a US security company making tear gas that’s been used against Egyptian demonstrators. The attack was implemented on a Valentine’s Day, promising more such attacks with a tweet: "Stay tuned for more Valentine's Day Hacks. Have you enjoyed the show so far?"

The hackers have announced that they’d broken into the website of Combined Systems Inc's and moreover, have stolen and published all the confidential information, including the personal data of the employees and customers of Jamestown, Pennsylvania-based Company. The aim of the attack was a protest against the company, which the hackers believe is run by war profiteers who sell "mad chemical weapons to militaries and cop shops around the world".

Putting out the company's website, the hackers also slammed the tear gas manufacturer over apparent war profiteering on protests in Egypt and Egypt, Bahrain, and the US by selling tear gas to Mubarak’s government or the country’s current ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. The statement by the hackers read:

"You shot and gassed protesters, running them off public parks in the US. Several dozen died because of your tear gas used in Egypt. Did you think we forgot? Why did you not expect us?
Combined Systems, lay down your arms: you just lost the game. In the past we have marched on your offices in Jamestown, Pennsylvania: now it is time to march on your websites."

The latest attack has mainly been credited by protests commemorating the first anniversary the uprising in Bahrain, where the activists called for demonstrations from Sunday to Tuesday to commemorate the Shiite-dominated protest that erupted last year, when at least 40 people have been killed during months of unprecedented political unrest. The main Bahrain government website was also down for about an hour, but later appeared to be functioning normally. It wasn't clear whether the problem stemmed from any kind of cyber-attack or was this just a coincidence.

The group has previously closed down the websites of: US DOJ – in protest of SOPA , FBI and more, and is charge of a series of web attacks worldwide and has especially concentrated on security companies, law enforcement and governmental organizations. The most famous but still anonymous hacker group has habitually collaborated with Occupy movement in the US and has expressed solidarity to pro-democracy activists through the Arab world.

How To Measure Evolution 3 Feb 2012 3:20 PM (13 years ago)

Have you ever wondered how much has the world changed from the first till the last? Don’t quite get the question? Read through to understand what it is all about…

The first analog mobile phone "The brick" was developed by a Motorola researcher and executive Martin Cooper in April, 1973. Weighing up 2 pounds (900 grams), DynaTAC 800 has become the first cell phone to be offered commercially. It offered just a half-hour of talk time for every recharging and sold for $3,995. Seems to be quite overpriced, as for the same amount of money you’re now able to get a smartphone by Apple, with up to 8 hours talk-time 0.3 pounds (140 grams).

The automobile industry began with a toy car built by Ferdinand Verbiest - a Flemish Jesuit missionary, for the Chinese emperor way back in 1672. However, in 1769, French inventor - Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot invented a vehicle which could facilitate human transportation for the services of French army. The car moved at a maximum speed of 2 1 mph on only three wheels. The vehicle had to stop every ten to fifteen minutes to build up steam power… While one of the fastest cars Bugatti Veyron Super Sport allows to drive at 267 mph speed today…

The term "skyscraper" was first applied to buildings of steel framed construction of at least 10 storeys in the late 19th century. The first steel casing skyscraper was the Home Insurance Building (originally 10 storeys with a height of 42 m or 138 ft) in Chicago, Illinois in 1885. The tallest building for today, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is just as 829.84 m or 2723 ft high.

In 1827, Joseph Nicephore Niepce made the first photographic image with a camera, featuring only two colors. The modern cameras register only 3 colors (Red, Green, and Blue) but with 1024+ levels of light intensity per color (density)…

So, if you still wonder how to measure the evolution, here is my answer for you:

Since the first till the latest, the world has been augmented with 7.5 more hours of talk time, 246 mph of speed, 783 meters of height, and at least - more 3000 colors….

If you have any other idea or would like to share your ways of evolution measurement, do not hesitate to voice up in the comments below!

SOPA Protest: Hackers Shut Down US DOJ Website 20 Jan 2012 2:42 AM (13 years ago)

Before now, it was US DOJ that seized the websites due to different reasons…But now, the situation seems to have radically changed. As an expression of protest against Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA), the group of Anonymous hackers shut down the websites for the U.S. Department of Justice and Universal Music Group, including the record company’s Canadian home page, Thursday afternoon. Less than an hour later, the website of Recording Industry Association of America also went offline.

Several days before the incident, the file sharing site Megaupload was seized, followed by the apprehension of 4 people in New Zealand who were allegedly linked to the site and charged withthe conspiracy related to copyright infringement.

Anonymous hacktivist Barrett Brown commented about the closure of US DOJ and Universal Music websites, pointing out that it definitely was in relation with the Megaupload raid and aims to damage campaign raising abilities of remaining Democrats who support SOPA.

The recent shut down of the file sharing site Megaupload by U.S. federal agents suggests the anti-piracy legislation won’t be necessary for U.S. authorities to censor the Internet, as some members of U.S. Congress had already pulled their support for Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protest Intellectual Property Act (PIPA).

Abusive Advertising 5 Jan 2012 11:50 PM (13 years ago)

The topic of our discussion is abusive content of ads, intensively including racism, violence and sexism content. Previously advertising was extremely racists, as it was almost established as deep-rooted in morality. Fortunately nowadays the situation has significantly changed; attitudes have come a long way to counteract this phenomenon in advertising and finally we got censorship and tight regulations… However, there still are some remnants of these stereotypes in our time, outdated convictions that focus on clichés…

But what was before? We present numbers of examples of the printed ads belonging to early 20th century, all including abusive content regardless the product/service advertised. Below you’ll find the highly sexist ads, emphasizing that men are superior to women in different situations. Before moving forward, please note that I'm not black and I do smoke, so there is nothing personal in my comments.

The poster below is an ad of Van Heusen, a brand specializing in suits, shirts, trousers and ties for men for decades. The ad explicitly shows that it's a man's world, showing a woman on her knees serving a man coffee.

Surprisingly, the extract from  Van Heusen website today reads: "The Van Heusen brand is now also importantly linked to the international human rights movement via our USA licencor and all factories manufacturing any of our products must comply to a strict code of audited conditions. These encompass among other issues, minimum wages, hours of work, freedom of association, non-discrimination, no forced or child labor, health and safety standards plus environmental conditions." It proves the fact that the old-styled but deep-rooted stereotypes do change... But the question is do they change entirely, or is it just a disguise, outward position of the companies trying to gain faultless reputation?

Looking at these ads, I have a feeling that women have come a long way to get where they are today!

This is a poster of Drummond Sweaters, coming out with a sexist ad that shows two men standing on top of a cliff, talking, while a woman dangles from a rope beneath them. The poster begins with the words :  “Men are better than women.”

We can argue that the world has become a much worse place since sexual liberalism. When men ruled the world, things worked- but does that acquit the opinion that men and women are not equal? No it doesn't. Anyway, it's interesting to see how the opinion has changed and made these ads impossible today - thanks for that.

There are hundreds of more sexist ad examples, but in my humble opinion, these two do speak for others two. Let's move on and see some more abusive ads of 20th century..

The ad in this paper is on Tipalet; a flavored cigarette from the 70's that “only the best men” smoke. There shouldn't be much debate on this one: despite    promoting unhealthy way of life, these ad contains sexist elements as well. It says "Blow in her face and she'll follow you anywhere." But I doubt that blowing poison in someone's face will arise sympathies in anyone... One more notable thing is how the ad convinces the male customers to hit women with their cherry, grape or blueberry flavored cigarettes and how wild it is! One thing is explicit: it actually is WILD (but in a negative form)!

Fairy Soap, a white soap that floated,  had a poster ad of a young white girl asking a young African American girl an extremely offensive question : “Why doesn’t your Mama wash you with Fairy Soap?”. Supporting the idea that African Americans are dirty, unkempt, unintelligent, unloved and inferior to whites, this is one of the most offensive and racist ads I've ever encountered with... Positioned as pure, white, floating- the soap of the century, this ad from Fairy proves that soaps were marketed quite differently from today...
Advertisements played off of racial physical distortions in their campaigns. Focused on blacks, these ad makes fun of  African Americans' physique in a way that enforces cliches. Slaves working in the fields were at risk for dehydration since it was intense labor and it's hot in the south. Nobody was passing out water bottles at the time, and as the name suggests -watermelon, having a high water content, appeared to be perfect for those people. Despite this, at the time watermelon was typically cheap, nutrient poor, convenient and easy to grow…Resembling one more extremely stupid illusion of their lips and large skull, this ad definitely is very abusive, making fun of hungry African American kid.

This is not all, but I think it's enough for today. I hope that these stereotypes are annihilated in modern times, at least in most parts of the world! If these posters made you sink in thoughts, aroused protest and simply, touched you, I'll believe that there is a hope that mankind can live and work in harmony, without violence, war, strife, colonization, domination, racism, sexism and so on....

Make An Eco-Friendly Choice For Christmas! 27 Dec 2011 2:55 AM (13 years ago)

Which one do you prefer, a real Christmas tree of a fake one? From different standpoints there are different answers to this at the very first glance simple question. If you are an environmentalist, you definitely agree that real trees are the better choice, considering personal and public health issues. While some might argue that cutting a new tree every Christmas is quite hazardous for the planet, suggesting re-usable fake counterparts.

As there is no crystal clear one way answer to the above question, “real versus fake” Christmas tree debate still stays a hot subject for discussion. Below you’ll find all the advantages and disadvantages of the two Christmas tree alternatives.

Fake Christmas Trees:

85% of Fake Christmas trees are made in China with polyvinyl chloride (or PVC, otherwise known as vinyl), one of the most ecologically violent forms of non-renewable, petroleum-derived material. Producing PVC pollutes neighborhoods located near factory sites. Furthermore, labor standards in China don’t sufficiently shield workers from the unsafe chemicals they are handling and it quite often leads to cancer!

Additionally, the additives used to make PVC more malleable include substances linked to liver, kidney, neurological and reproductive system damage, extensively used in lab studies on animals. Many healthcare organizations warn that fake trees can shed lead-laced dust, which may cover branches or shower gifts and the floor below the tree, so be attentive to your children to avoid inhaling or eating any dust or parts that may come loose.

Real Christmas Trees:

While natural Christmas trees are used for a short time only, they are 100% recyclable and are then applied as mulch or used to prevent erosion. Live trees are typically grown as a crop in farms and replanted in rotation after cutting. Life Cycle Assessment study states that a natural tree will generate 3.1 kg of greenhouse gases every year (based on purchasing 5 km from home) whereas the artificial tree will produce 48.3 kg over its lifetime. The major obstacle of real Christmas trees is that, because they are cultivated as agricultural products, they often require constant applications of pesticides over their usual eight-year lifespans. Also, as they are growing and then again once discarded, they may contribute to contamination of local watersheds.

After all this discussion, one conclusion can be made - the most eco-friendly way to enjoy a Christmas tree is to buy a live tree with its roots undamaged and then replant it in your yard once the holiday  season has passed! So, dear life Christmas tree owners, please consider our advice- do not just throw your tree away, otherwise the consequences will be as deplorable, as it’s described on the Green Piece Christmas poster, which says: Winter. You'll Miss It When It's Gone.

Cloud-Based Or Traditional Videoconferencing - Which Is Better? 20 Dec 2011 2:42 AM (13 years ago)

Before this question can be answered, we should first define what a cloud-based video conference is all about. Cloud-based solutions are software solutions provided by IT companies via the internet. The investments fall away for the material, making cloud solutions extremely popular. Video conferencing is available for businesses to get in touch with customers or suppliers at any time. Of course this can be done by your phone as well, but the problem is that only audio is available. If you have nothing to present, the phone conferencing is quite sufficient, but often certain things need to be presented visually. The further differences between traditional and cloud-based video conferencing are explained below.

The first major difference is that when a company uses cloud-based technology, the investments are much lower, since there is no need to acquire much of the equipment. As progressively more providers recognize that the market is trending in cloud direction, more of them specialize in could-based systems. One more advantage of cloud-based systems is that they are easily compatible with mobile devices. This is already available, and will increase in importance in the future. The current trend shows that video conferencing should be available anywhere, anytime in the nearest future. Thus many are working to make it possible to get a high quality video conferencing on mobiles.

Another important difference is that cloud systems can be easily adapted to the company size. This means that a pay-as-you-go option allows companies to have appropriate accessibility and that they are able to increase or decrease their accessibility according to the size of the company. In this way, budget is efficiently spent without wastage and companies are able to continuously allocate the budget available and necessary.

Hence, it is obvious that cloud-based video conferencing is often preferred compared to the traditional one. An important, if not the most important point for the companies is, of course, the previously mentioned lower investment and pay-as-you-go option. This also represents the most rational reasons why companies like to use cloud-based video conferencing systems.

North Korea Leader Dies At The Age Of 69 19 Dec 2011 4:18 AM (13 years ago)

Kim Jong Il, who dictatorially ruled North Korea for 17 years, is dead at the age of 69. The official announcement appeared on North Korean state television this morning, with a dressed-in-black tearful presenter.

According to the official report, Kim Jong Il experienced a heart attack while he was on a train, during what it called a “field inspection.” The reports say every possible measure was taken to save his life, but that an examination on Sunday confirmed the cause of death. North Korean leader is said to have suffered a stroke earlier in 2008 as well, appearing visibly weak in a few of the photos that were released recently.

As far as North Korea is a Communist country, a system of hereditary succession is successfully maintained. Kim Jong Il had his leadership inherited from his father, Kim Il Sung, who passed away in 1994. Now the new leader will be Kim Jong Il’s youngest son Kim Jong Un, officially named as throne successor by his father in 2010.

The experts find the death of the dictator to be somewhat “surprising”, here is why: despite of being a sort of failed state, North Korea is also a dangerous one as long as it has the nuclear power. The unexpected death of the leader definitely produced deep worries, together with high uncertainty and instability as well. Not long after the announcement of Kim’s passing away, South Korean military is put on “high alert”, with the president Lee Myung-bak calling his national security council up.

As for the US, The White House has declared that President Barack Obama had been notified and U.S. officials are communicating with their South Korean and Japanese counterparts. Even China, believed to have as close relationships with North Korea as “lips and teeth”, is concerned about North Korean nuclear ambitions.

The official funeral for Kim Jong Il is appointed on December 28, with heir Kim Jong Un named as the head of the funeral committee.

How To Earn Money Online 26 Oct 2011 3:59 AM (13 years ago)

Everyone loves easy money- that’s a fact! And easy money mainly comes from internet activities nowadays- this is a fact too. We decided to discuss the topic due the wide variety of earning options that have leapt up recently on the internet.

The tasks for which you are paid are all different in their requirements. Some websites offer you easier duties, while some may suggest a full-time job and you may not even realize it. Not to be dependent on anyone and “earn your own way” is the best alternative of all the stuff offered. The most popular ways suggested for earning are guest blogging, freelancing, participating in the surveys, clicking on some tedious banners and so on. But there should be something that is really worth to do…

We conducted a mini-research about the topic in order to define the reliable ways to earn on the web. We’d like to share the results with you, by discussing best tree alternatives that are so convenient, that it is nearly unbelievable to be true.

The first and the most reliable way is to become an Amazon affiliate. This is quite easy, but only when you have your own website. There are three alternatives: links and banner exchange, widgets and site stripes. You may earn up to 15% in referrals by advertising Amazon products. To learn more, visit Amazon Affiliate website. We think it is worth to try, at least it’s Amazon!

One more and quite altruistic source of earning on the web is joining CasinoGuideZone Forum. If you love gambling, than it all becomes even more unbelievable. The forum has a reward program, according to which the members are given $20 Amazon vouchers only for being active on the forum! Furthermore, the professional gamblers can be found there, ready to answer your questions and providing useful tips that help you win casino games. Quite lucrative, isn’t it?

and the last one- SurveyMasterMind – here you can find tones of offers inviting you to join focus groups, complete paid surveys, get Freebies or do some home job that is later remunerated. The only problem that may arise here is that there may be no surveys available for your region at the very moment when you need money. But on the other hand the website is quite reputable and pays off most of the time. Just a little effort and you get paid!

However, none of these are ways to get rich quickly. You need to contribute in any way to get paid- this is the reality. Now the question is whether what you call a contribution- advertising somebody’s products, learning more on the topic you’re keen on or answer (a lot of) questions and get paid… It’s up to you to decide. Anyway, we’ll be glad to hear your feedback on the alternatives we suggested, and welcome your other ideas on the topic as well.

Findings on Human Brain’s Photosensitivity 11 Aug 2011 7:44 AM (13 years ago)

The brain, the most complex organ in the human body, source of human thoughts, actions, memory, focus, attention, speed, problem solving, feelings and experiences, weighing in at around 1.4 kilograms, is still the object of many researches and studies even nowadays in different universities and research centers.

As many researches are done as many new opportunities of our brain are discovered. Day by day people face new and unexpected abilities that make lives easier and easier. If not, we have answers to many questions that were cloudy several years ago.

At the present moment we are going to cover Valkee and the University of Oulu findings on human brain’s photosensitivity.

According to Valkee, the research localized the OPN3 protein-light-sensitive photoreceptor protein in 18evaluated areas of the brain. It is worth mentioning that sensitivity to light is outside of the visual system. Among the 18 brain areas are serotonin and melatonin production and storage, as they play key roles in mood, sleep and depression.

As mentioned in Valkee press release, Juuso Nissilä, Valkee co-founder and chief scientific officer comments that “The human brain is broadly photosensitive. The photoreceptor proteins we found are known to take light stimulus and transfer it into neural signals. Channeling light directly to these brain areas via ear canal will generate a response in the photosensitive cells.”

The research paper will be available for download at http://www.valkee.com on Friday, August 12, 2011, after its scientific presentation at noon CET.

Benefits of Outsourced Call Center Service 6 May 2011 4:29 AM (13 years ago)

Call-centers are the business units that specialize in handling customer problems and inquiries via phone and provide quality support to businesses. For many small, medium and large businesses outsourcing a call center is a brilliant opportunity to generate sales and assist existing customers with technical and customer support matters. While some bigger corporations have all the needed resources – time, money and labor, to start up their own call center, majority of smaller and mid-sized companies choose a simplified approach to call centers and prefer to use outsourced call center services .

The motivation for most companies to choose to outsource call centers is ordinarily due to the low cost and ready management that is far more affordable than its business wasting lots of time, resources and labor creating their own call center from scratch. However, despite the low cost and high professionalism the outsourced call center services  offer, some businesses even manage to enhance their sales volume and customer satisfaction, lowering customer retention and limiting customer churn a lot.

Outsourcing a call center may have many benefits, depending on the field businesses operate in. But for most of the companies, there are several advantages that are the same regardless their activity.

Anyone calling your business will have no idea that the person answering the phone does not work for your business. Instead, they will assume they have come through to your team. However, an outsourced call center has a team of well-trained, professional staff who can make a positive first impression for anyone contacting your company.

Outsourcing metrics can protect the company from having high operating costs in preserving a workforce of thousands of workers and advancing equipment. When there is a substantial need to upgrade the essential IT tools, turning to call center or customer relationship systems is one way to cut costs.

Anyway, applying outsourced call center service  is a good choice, as at least, you have more time to concentrate on other areas of the business that require more management attention.

Men and Women Outlook of Economy 15 Mar 2011 11:26 PM (14 years ago)

Men and women-universal topic to discuss, it is something like timeless, always in fashion, source of never ending discussions. Google counts about 95,100,000 results when entering these two words. Results mostly show such diverse directions of highlighting this topic as Women vs. Men, How do men and woman compare, why women leave men, women without men, men without women, women & men, men and women really do think differently, men are better than women, difference between women and men……………………………… I am lazy of listing all 95,100,100 titles now. Hope the blogvasion readers will not be offended. I will explain bellow what is the reason of my laziness.

But before that I want to share with you the news published at Beyondanalysis.com-Men and women have a polar opposite outlook of economy. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) production, empowered by Beyond Analysis turns Customer Transaction Data into powerful business and market intelligence as it is mentioned at Beyondanalysis.com.

The research found very interesting influence of gender on consumer spending patterns.
According to Beyondanalysis, findings include:

1. Women have consistently lower levels of optimism about the state of the economy compared to men - 38% of men said the economy was ‘strong’, compared to just 21% of women in January 2011
2. Women saw the global financial crisis as a time to be more careful about spending; men saw it as an opportunity to ‘get some great bargains’
3. Women are significantly more concerned about not being able to meet the day-today expenses, such as mortgage repayments. Men are generally more worried about a loss in their investments or retirement savings

As for the customer behaviour:

1. Women mainly hold the purse strings when it comes to household spending, given them insight and awareness of the household economy
2. Women are generally less confident than men that they’ll have adequate resources to retire when they want to – 29% of women compared to 35% of men
3. Women tend to dominate retail spending; given current spend levels are lower than trend this may reflect the less positive perceptions of female shoppers

The finding can serve different businesses and help use data in advantage to them and for forcasting possible outcomes in different situations where men’s and women’s behaviors have reasonable influence. The data analysis answers many questions.

Now let me justify the reason I did not covered other, king of, important titles and subtitles in the boardless internet that might draw more detailed picture of difference between these two genders.

To say simply, man is a man and a woman is a woman with characteristic strengths and weaknesses, advantages and disadvantages.

P.S.

To add some fun to our post, and save the copyrights of the pictures representing men vs. women, please have a look at the following google images link:

4D Anatomy Atlas Head and Neck Edition 21 Feb 2011 9:53 PM (14 years ago)

It is no news that the more time passes the more is the necessity of having improved technologies to solve the problems that were unimaginable to solve a century ago. Technology development made great changes in each field of work, and, especially, in medicine. There is another but… how much the success helped and how much it harmed the same health that we are trying to save. But it is another issue of study that we will cover later.

Well, and now, what is step forward in technology and medicine?!

4D Anatomy LLC, (the name already indicates what might the news be about) that is the developer of image based human anatomy applications, announced the release of the 4D Anatomy Atlas Platform, the Head and Neck Edition.

So what it provides?

The 4D Anatomy Learning Platform captures multidimensional laboratory dissection experiences and delivers them to the desktop by reconstructing high resolution photographic images of microsurgical dissections in an interactive fashion.

As mentioned at 4D Anatomy LLC site, according to Dr. Attila Balogh, M.D. and founder of 4D Anatomy LLC, “We developed the 4D Anatomy Platform to provide a comprehensive didactic and visual environment for medical professionals to experience actual laboratory and operating room experience based on detailed imagery of the human body, as opposed to animation. The result is a product providing a much improved vision of spatial relationships and deliver the realism of actual dissections of the human body. We are very pleased to offer our first release 4D Head and Neck Basic Collection, which takes full advantage of our image based differentiation. In addition, our market research indicates 77% of medical professionals concur that a photography based product is far more valuable than animations.”

The 4D Head and Neck Edition includes rotation, tilting, panning, zooming or layered viewing.

The first product is the 4D Head and Neck Basic Collection which retails for $349.

Holding Future in Your Hands 11 Nov 2010 7:08 AM (14 years ago)

A lot of people inquire what the future will be like. Some people are totally scared of it so as all seem obscure in future, others try to plan their life beforehand, to be organized and more or less ready for any future changes. Whatsoever, every person wishes to be successful member of the society. Definitely, at that century to be the successful means to have well-paid job or prosperous business.

Modern time, to find a job is not easy at all, but in the future it seems to be even more difficult. Thus, there are some tips to handle the problem according to my personal research.

Factors such as technology, population growth and consumers demand plus economic growth will determine the future job market structure that emerges over the next few years.

It is no surprise that one of the fastest growing areas of employment in recent years relates to computer technology. Technological advance and the continued integration of IT and digital communications into the workplace throughout the private, public and voluntary sectors ensure that this trend will continue for some time. Systems analysts, designers and developers, computer programmers, web developers, consultants and information managers reflect the range of these career areas.

Employment growth in the information sector will be most evident in computer-related industries such as software publishing, internet publishing and wireless communication.

Educational sector is suspected to provide more vacancies because of increasing number of student enrollments through the educational system.

The future job market sees jobs in the finance and insurance sectors growing due to needs of an increasing population, baby boomers in their prime saving years and the numbers of new types of insurance products on the market.

Another guaranteed growth area is the healthcare sector. The increasing number of healthcare jobs is directly attributable to the growing population and the expansion of treatments available for medical service, whether delivered in the primary healthcare sector or within hospitals. Consequently, there is also an expansion in the number of administrative and support roles needing to be filled.

Other careers deemed to be ‘hot’ future career prospects relate to areas of scientific advance, and in particular the “bio” sciences, such as biotechnology and other new scientific areas include nanotechnology and energy technology.

Demographic changes are leading to other needs in addition to healthcare such as tourism. New jobs in the leisure and hospitality sectors will mostly be in amusement, gambling and recreation industries.

Owning information on future job market and understanding future employment trends help in making successful career decision. Ultimately, your choice of career must depend primarily on an assessment of your own skills, abilities, personal qualities, interests, availability.

Future does not seem that obscure, just endure being professional and competitive to match with the demands of future job market.

Lawrence Inspires Students with LU-R1 24 Oct 2010 9:15 AM (14 years ago)

An innovative undergraduate research program launched by Lawrence University is proved to be successful.

The program offers qualified Lawrence Students partnership with Lawrence alumni scientists who are directing research laboratories at major universities across the country. The result of this partnership is inspiring: undergraduate student of Lawrence University Bennett Pang managed to isolate “natural killer” cells from human blood sample, while Lawrence junior Grace Rothenstein created a database for more than 2.000 plants which can be used more efficiently for biofuel production. LU-R1 takes undergraduate research to the next level as well, providing significant opportunities typically for graduate students at major universities while strengthening ties between Lawrence University and its alumni.

As University of Missouri biochemist Scott Pecks said “the program is incredibly valuable on so many levels, Lawrence students receive additional laboratory training that reinforces their excellent classroom education and makes them more competitive in market or in their applications to professional school while the host universities receive assistance in advancing our research.” According to Peck, LU-R1 is helping the United States to improve its position in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers.

LU-R1 program is one step forward to provide the society with high professionals, engaging them in cutting-end questions, learning new methodologies, gaining vital experience and inspiring for discoveries.

Freelancer or Full Time Employee? 7 Oct 2010 10:16 PM (14 years ago)

Hello!

I guess it is quite a long time I have not addressed the Blogvasion reader. Reasons are various but mostly, it is the lack of TIME. Actually, my last post was also concerning the issue of TIME, and that Time is money. This saying does not always mean that the more time you have the more money you earn. Sometimes it is quite possible that you hardly earn out even your salary, not to have hopes to earn much on your overtime, and why? I think the problem is in time management or in human resources management, requirements and given time to accomplish the work. It is no news giving multi task to the employees is widely spread way out in many companies. Well, it is OK until the workload is resistible and productivity level is also satisfactory.

So as I face this problem together with my coworkers, I reviewed the main time management tools. Among the first techniques, as I noticed is the recognition that you can’t do it all. And that’s all right because it might take you to some of the solutions instead of being in panic that you are tight in deadline or you will miss the deadline.

Another time management tool is to prioritize things you should do. That’s a really good technique and mostly used one by me during the working day. As soon something should be done as higher it is in the TO DO list. As the word DEADLINE has different meaning in our working environment… If YourDictionary.com defines Deadline as the latest time by which something must be done or completed, in our schedule in majority cases it means… Well, absolutely different thing. And that is that absorbs the quality of the work you do.

So… What is better to beg people to follow deadlines or to change the nature of your work, direction or…? Well, in my field, media, journalism, publishing, editing, translating … DEADLINE is the determining factor for the successful accomplishment of work. While searching for some answers to these problematic issues I came across a very interesting research results held by the Brookson Enterprise Freelance Fair, covered at SourceWire.com.

Seems that productivity that is the key benefit of freelance workers in the creative, digital, media and marketing sector shows 83%, when the productivity of full time staff is only 60%.

According to the SourceWire.com, Neil Lewis, organiser of the Enterprise Freelance Fairs said “this research backs up what we have been told anecdotally; namely, that the real benefit to businesses and entrepreneurs of freelance talent is the increased productivity coupled with very high levels of motivation.”

Lewis continued, “Cost saving is not the dominant benefit identified in this research. This means freelancers won’t cut your costs, but you can expect more productive results from the same expenditure”.

In the highly competitive world of high quality demands choice is always individual. According to the research results possible priority of managers, Full Time or Freelancer is more or less vivid. Though , choice also depends on the market needs. But let it be the topic of another post.

“Time is Money.” Consumers Behavior with Slow Websites from Compuware Gomez 9 Sep 2010 1:18 AM (14 years ago)

Saying of Benjamin Franklin “Time is money” maintains actuality almost in everything. Among which is the Information Technology. Several times, we covered the topic of approximate total number of websites in the world. According to the Netcraft Web Server Survey, on the basis of December 2009 results, there are around 233,848,493 websites available on World Wide Web. So why we touched this issue once more? The reason is a very interesting survey from Compuware Gomez that I came across this morning.

According to Gomez, the findings of a survey shows that a significant portion of U.S. consumers will quickly abandon websites that perform slowly as the users’ poor tolerance for poor performance on PC and Mobile Web, undergoes significant changes.

As stated on the official site, the independent survey, “When Seconds Count,” was conducted for Gomez by Equation Research and queried 1,004 web and mobile users. The results show that about 1/3 (32%) of consumers will start abandoning slow sites between one and five seconds; 84% are only willing to try a slow performing website a few times before giving up, and 39% say speed is more important than functionality for most websites, while only one in five rank greater site functionality as more important.

The survey included in the research, not only computer users but mobile site users, too. Seems a third of all web users are also using a mobile device to access the Internet. These users, like the computer users, prefer quick and fast load on the mobile phone.

What are the future threats for the slow sites?

The survey results clearly show that more than a third (37 percent) would not return to a slow site, and 27 percent would likely jump to a competitor’s site.

Except frustration users feel, they are sometimes unable to accomplish tasks. To be more precise, let’s take the survey results where we can see that more than 80 percent of users can not accomplish their tasks, and about 47 percent say they have frequently abandoned sites where they couldn’t finish their tasks in the past three months.

Full survey findings are at http://bit.ly/aIQfsw

Communication Between Brain & Neurochip Achieved 12 Aug 2010 5:32 AM (14 years ago)

Today, while looking through some university programs on media studies, I came across a very eye and brain catching news in News of the University of Calgary. So what was that..? Seems that Canadian team developed Neurochip technology. I am too far from medicine studies but the importance of this achievement is easier to analyze for me than to think over the process how it was developed so that it helps futurea understanding of how brain cells work under normal conditions and permit drug discoveries for a variety of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

As scientists evaluate, new technology monitoring of brain cell activity at a resolution never achieved before.

According to University of Calgary, Syed, professor and head of the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and advisor to the Vice President Research on Biomedical Engineering Initiative of the U of C says: “This technical breakthrough means we can track subtle changes in brain activity at the level of ion channels and synaptic potentials, which are also the most suitable target sites for drug development in neurodegenerative diseases and neuropsychological disorders.”

According to Gerald Zamponi’s, professor and head of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, and member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, words I could understand more precisely the meaning of all the achievement, “This technology can likely be scaled up such that it will become a novel tool for medium throughput drug screening, in addition to its usefulness for basic biomedical research”.

In the world of so many changes, our health condition also changes and needs different kinds of approaches to be cured. And if placing of human brain on microchip can do so much for diseased people, so why not?! The most important question AFTER great achievement is How much affordable it will be?

I am not sure I am able to discuss deeper about scientists’ works and achievements but I will try to inform BLOGVASION readers about the further developments in this direction. Before that I wish everybody to have the first wealth in the world- Health!

As for those who will be more interested in the new technology from the lab of Naweed Syed, in collaboration with the NRC, can find information in the journal, Biomedical Devices.

How to Promote Your Website among 205,368,103 websites on World Wide Web? 8 Aug 2010 8:52 AM (14 years ago)

Have you ever asked yourself and then Google search, how many websites are there in the world? I did this morning. And the number is really huge. According to Netcraft Web Server Survey, as of April 2010 there are around 205,368,103 websites available on World Wide Web. Seems there is a slight fall as, statistically, the same source says that in December 2009, there were 233,848,493, and even though three of the five major web servers lost hostnames compared to last month, anyway, the number of websites is quite considerable to have some concerns about how to reach your audience effectively and cheaply.

On the basis of some data analysis, and the experience I have on the topic of website promotion, I summarized some of the steps for result-oriented website promotion:

1. The most important is to create the best content that is the key guarantee of attracting the audience. If the reader is caught from the very first visit and then is provided with updated information timely, then the first step is accomplished successfully that leads to easy work of the following steps;

2. Recommend your site at such social bookmarking sites as Digg or networking sites such as Facebook;

3. Work on search engines, as mentioned above, as the best content guarantees responses from the search engines. That is great step forward;

4. Send press releases. It is very effective way to promote your website as there are many free press release submission sites if you do not plan to spend some money yet;

5. An article submission is also a Great tool;

6. Try to post a link to your site for free though do not forget to pay attention to the terms of copyright;

7. Use social community sites such as MySpace or Facebook. There you can find people with the same interests;

9. It will be very productive if you contribute to other websites, different forums and blogs;

10. Comment on other blogs.

I am sure that is not all that may serve the websites as promotion tool but it will be great if you add some and enrich Blogvasion team’s and readers’ knowledge about it.
