Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara
I have pretty long lashes to begin with, so the best thing a mascara can do for me is make them so long, they hit my glasses. Well, mission accomplished, thanks to this unassuming little tube. I actually first discovered it while I was writing a piece for InStyle about the most popular mascaras on Reddit, and I influenced myself to buy it. My lashes are longer, curlier, and thicker in a single swipe, without any clumping, smudging, or flaking. Who needs false lashes when there's a mascara this good?!

OUAI Scalp & Body Scrub
Truth be told, I don't really use body scrubs very often. No matter which ones I buy and try, I just can't seem to find one I HAVE to have in my arsenal. Until this sweet-smelling one, that is. While I originally bought it to try and reduce scalp flaking, I've actually found that I use it way more often for my flaky, ashy legs! A dime-sized amount on each leg instantly creates soft, smooth, nourished shine, even when they've been crying out for help a moment before.

L'Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Glotion
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I'd be using a skin tint or a tinted moisturizer. But, well, here we are. I've been raving about this miracle product to anyone who will listen, whether they want to or not, because it's JUST. THAT. GOOD. I love the lightest shade, 901 Fair, since my skin tone is pretty Casper-like. A few swipes across my cheeks, forehead and chin leave me glowing with a capital GLOWING. I am obsessed. Obsessed, I tell you. I even like to use a little of it under my eyes as concealer, and I swear my raccoon-like dark circles instantly disappear. Do yourself a favor and buy it right now.

MERIT Flush Balm in Rouge
Did I ever think I'd become a blush wearer? No, no I did not. But this gorgeous little product made me change my tune. The packaging is ingenious — the blush is a creamy stick, but in a rounded shape. Plus, you can actually use it on your lips, too. I've started dotting the apples of my cheeks and going over my lips with this cherry red shade right before I go out, which leaves them looking, well, flushed. In the absolute best way, of course.

Tree Hut Vitamin C Whipped Shea Body Butter
My favorite holiday is just around the corner. I look forward to Hanukkah every year — and this year, it coincides with Christmas, so we can have the happiest holiday season of all! Hanukkah starts the evening of Wednesday, December 25, and runs through January 2, 2025.
I've always loved Hanukkah — and, honestly, not because of the presents I've gotten. (Although I will always love the tradition my mom, brother, and I began years ago, where we'd each have a paper grocery bag under the piano and would toss gifts into them throughout the month leading up to Hanukkah for the others to open.) Lighting the menorah is such a beautiful way to connect to the Jewish faith throughout all eight nights, and singing the prayers with my family (whether IRL or over Facetime) is one of my most-loved traditions of the entire year.
Last year, I put together a Hanukkah gift guide featuring products from Jewish-owned and Israeli-owned brands. In the wake of October 7, connecting with Judaism has become more important to me than ever, and I find it important to encourage shopping from these brands to most truly represent the holiday. To that end, this year's gift guide features a new plethora of gifts from a variety of Jewish and Israeli brands, too! If you need a gift for a friend or family member who celebrates Hanukkah — or you just want to treat yourself (hint, hint), keep reading to discover the 14 best Hanukkah gifts you simply need to get this year.
Factor's Famous Deli Choose Your Own Rugelach
I play trivia every Monday, and one of my teammates brings us a selection of Factor's delicious desserts almost every time. While they're all mouthwatering, I always go for the chocolate chip rugelach, since they're just the right amount of flaky, doughy, and chocolatey. This gift lets you choose two pounds of rugelach in two different flavors, including — of course — the chocolate chip, plus apricot, cinnamon, raisin, and raspberry. In a word? Yum.

LoveShackFancy Octavia Rosa Beaux Pouch
I'm of the firm belief that you can never have too many pouches. They're great for travel, storing makeup and beauty products in your cabinets, or just having around to stare at lovingly. Meshugge The Original Hoodie
Okay, I'm obsessed with this sweatshirt. My whole family has been saying "meshugge" for as long as I can remember. Not to mention it's spelled out in Hebrew letters that look like English ones (IYKYK), which just makes this extra unique. Is it wrong that I want to buy one in every color?

Astra Lumina is a sensory, celestial-themed journey of light and sound that happens every November and December at South Coast Botanic Garden.
As you walk through the botanical garden, you continue to encounter new ethereal and celestial moments around every corner. There are nine different stunning thematic areas to explore, each illuminated with light and amplified with projection and sound.
I was invited to attend Astra Lumina recently and definitely enjoyed it. I loved the evening walk punctuated with multiple laser and light shows. I have to admit I also thoroughly enjoyed my spiked hot chocolate!

I've stayed at The Cosmopolitan multiple times over the years. During my last trip — a girls' weekend with my best friend, where we were supposed to see Shawn Mendes before he canceled his tour (but that's another story for another day), we chose one of the hotel's Terrace Studio rooms.
Every room I've stayed in at The Cosmopolitan has been fantastic, but this one was the best yet. It has super comfortable beds (I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow each night!), a bathroom with a large soaking tub, and even a terrace with a fabulous view of the city below.

There's no shortage of amazing restaurants in Vegas. However, the absolute best are all found at The Cosmopolitan! While we did leave the hotel occasionally, we actually enjoyed multiple meals here, simply because there are so many inviting choices at arm's length. We chose to dine at three different restaurants in the hotel during this trip:
A Spanish tapas restaurant with dish after mouthwatering dish.

I have a hot tip for you. If you have the chance, get a cabana at one of The Cosmopolitan's pools. We treated ourselves to one at the Chelsea Pool (another hot tip: get one during the week, because it's cheaper than on the weekend), and we had the best time! Your fee for the cabana includes your food and beverages for the day, plus you get a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of the pool (also some built-in shade, which is nice for pale people like myself!). We opted for the Chelsea Pool because it was a bit quieter and more relaxed — if you like more of a party vibe, try the Boulevard Pool.

You're no stranger to Love Actually Live, since it's your third time performing in the show! What keeps you coming back?
The only reason I've missed years is because I've been out of town. It's become a holiday tradition for me. It's my family, it's like being home for the holidays.
This year, you're playing Sarah. What drew you to the role?
As I've gotten older, I'm more drawn to the melancholy songs that I can really emote through, and really do continue on the arc of the character. Being from Kentucky, trying to find a different sound, I've bene able to indulge myself in the Joni Mitchell stuff.
Are there any songs you're really excited about performing this year?
I love "River," it's heartbreaking. "Both Sides Now" — what I would consider one of the 11:00 numbers of the show. It ends up being a four-part song and is so powerful. "Puppy Love" is so fun too as an ensemble song that always gets a good reaction.
You're no stranger to For the Record, who produces this show. What keeps you coming back for more performances with them?
2011 was my first show. Having been in LA for a year at that point, I was searching for people to be my tribe. I was living in Thai Town and I discovered a bar on Vermont Avenue. They were doing open mic nights for musical theater people. I started going on Mondays and got on the mailing list. I saw the auditions for Baz. I met these people, I became privy to the whole concept and thought it was brilliant. Subsequently, became really close friends with everybody. It's made my entire career, to be honest. It's led to things in Vegas and on Broadway that otherwise I wouldn't have been considered for. I owe my career to them. Anytime they call, I pick up the phone!
How did you first become interested in performing?
I've been doing theater my whole life. It feeds me in a way that no other kind of performance will. Can't stop won't stop! My parents met in community theater in my hometown — my mom was directing The Music Man and was Marian, my dad was doing sound and lights. I got my start in the same community theater, it was something I always wanted to be a part of. I never decided on LA, but came off the tour of Grease and had spent some time in LA on that tour, and that initially brought me out here.
Let's talk about your beauty and skincare routine a bit! What is your daily beauty and skijncare regimen — and does it change when you're performing and wearing a lot more makeup?
My skin hates wearing stage makeup every day. My nighttime routine with astringents has been important, making sure everything is out of my pores.
My biggest secret is hot yoga. I go every day before the show and sweat it all out.
Because we wear wigs, I use a strengthener and hair mask.
What are your top beauty essentials?
I always use Kiehl's — I find it's gentle enough but gets the job done.
I use Olaplex because I have fine hair, so it needs a little help.
I've turned on to a lot of bar soaps, including for my hair. It's been kind of a game changer!
What are some things you do for fun when you're not performing?
I travel a lot, do a lot of cruise ship work and symphony out of town work. Traveling is a side job of mine.
I've been enjoying playing tourist wherever I am and wherever the gigs take me. I've been loving solo travel. I had my first trip to Amsterdam, and that was life changing.
If you're in the LA area, definitely be sure to get tickets for Love Actually Live before it ends on December 30! Tickets are available at The Wallis.
But, even as a kid, what I loved more than the gifts was the traditions we as Jews celebrate during this time. I love lighting the menorah, and have actually lit it with my mom and brother over FaceTime for years if we can't be together (though the photo above is of my mom and me lighting it on the last night, two years ago). I love the latkes and the sufganiyot (donuts). I love playing the dreidel game (and hopefully winning the most Hanukkah gelt). I love the songs and the Hanukkah candle blessings. Most of all, I love the fact that this holiday represents a time when the Jews refused to let our light go out, both literally and figuratively. In this time that's rife with antisemitism and a rise in hatred against Jews and Israel, that means more to me than ever before.
To that end, I decided to create a Hanukkah gift guide this year. I haven't put together gift guides on the blog in awhile, but I really wanted to find a way to celebrate this holiday. All of the products in this guide are by Jewish-owned and Israeli-owned brands — it was important to me to have them truly represent this holiday. If you're looking for a gift for a friend or family member who celebrates Hanukkah — or you just want one for yourself (hint hint), keep reading to discover the 13 best Hanukkah gifts worthy of the eight nights of lights!

FYI the Hey Dewy Wireless Facial Humidifier is bringing life (and dewiness!) back to my skin. I'm absolutely in love with this little humidifying wonder! And there are 7 very important reasons why. Keep reading to find out what they are.
1) It's teeny and portable! You can even use it in your car!
2) It can be charged up and then used for 8 continuous hours. That's a heck of a lot of humidifying, if you ask me.
3) It has both continuous and intermittent humidifying settings. I prefer the continuous setting (give me alllll the humidifying, please), but I like being able to choose.
4) It features a super fun nightlight that can be turned on and off. And who doesn't love a nightlight?
5) It's super, SUPER quiet. Even when you're holding it directly in front of your face, you can barely hear it. It's way different than the humidifier my family had when I was young, which emitted the loudest hum I somehow still hear in my dreams sometimes.
6) It comes in five different colors, including this absolutely adorable Blush hue! (In case you — gasp! — want a different color, it's also available in white, light grey, light blue, and mint.)
7) It's only $60! A serious bargain, if you ask me.
Are those enough reasons for you? I'm so happy this is part of my normal skincare routine now. If you'll excuse me, I'm off to dewify my skin!
The Hey Dewy Wireless Facial Humidifier retails for $60 at heydewy.com.
Life is the bubbles! I was recently invited to check out Bubble Planet Experience and had such a great time! I took my friend Jen along for the extremely bubbly ride.
In case you’re wondering what lies in store (or should I say floats?) once you arrive at Bubble World, here’s what you can look forward to:
Yes, you read that right! There are 11 different bubble rooms to experience here. My favorites were the Balloon Getaway, Selfie Room, LED Room and Infinity Room.
Soar among the clouds, dive into the sea, and … well, I don’t want to spoil any more of of this out-of-this-world VR experience for you! It's included in a VIP ticket, or an extra $5 without VIP.
Jen and I skipped those, since there were a LOT of people in each one and we didn’t want to climb in and out of different tubs or rooms, but if that’s your thing, go for it.
Here's a little more to know before you dive into the bubbles!

I was searching lately for a new spot to get a facial — primarily in West Hollywood, though I would basically travel the earth for great skin. In my research, I happened upon Formula Fig, and I just knew on sight that it was worth checking out.
This Canadian-based spa just opened their first location in Los Angeles in March. It immediately captivated me with its gorgeous green interior, convenient location, and must-have selection of products. But it's the treatment menu that really sealed the deal for me.

The beautiful interior of Formula Fig. |

I loved all of the photo moments found at this space. |
Diamond-Tip Microdermabrasion: A form of advanced exfoliation that helps remove dead skin cells, stimulate new cellular growth, and give the skin a fresher look. I've had microdermabrasion before, and this experience was super easy and calming; the microdermabrasion tip felt like a light pressured scratching across my face. I've also noticed a lot of flaking and peeling from other microdermabrasion sessions that lasted up to a week in the past, but this one didn't produce any unsightly peeling afterward!
Pressurized Oxygen Serum Infusion: This cooling, calming oxygen is sprayed onto the skin to help absorb serums and improve skin's hydration levels. It's used with 98% pure oxygen so active ingredients can deeply penetrate the skin.
LED Light Therapy: This form of light therapy penetrates the skin to help rejuvenate, repair tissue, reduce inflammation, decrease harmful bacteria, and stimulate collagen.
Ultrasonic Skin Slider: It uses high frequency to gently dislodge dirt and debris on skin's surface and help exfoliate.
First of all, the treatment rooms are cozy and inviting. While other spas and salons may have you change into a robe or facial wrap, here, you simply climb up into the comfortable chair and lean back. I actually didn't mind staying in my regular clothes, especially since the session is only 30 minutes.

A few of the products my skin expert, Crystal, used. |
I came in with skin that was dull, dehydrated, flaky, pretty much just not how I wanted it to look OR feel. After just 30 minutes, my skin immediately felt so dewy, refreshed, and hydrated. I literally could FEEL the difference from before and after the treatment! Almost a week later, my skin is still so nourished and hydrated that I have barely even needed to moisturize (though, of course, I have been) — it's baby soft and insanely glowy.

After my Hydrate + Glow treatment at Formula Fig. My skin was GLOWING! |
So, curious about how Formula Fig works? There are two ways to experience the magic here.
Option 1: Drop In
If you don't need monthly treatments or aren't ready to commit, you can book a one-off for any treatment offered at Formula Fig. Cost varies, depending on the treatment — for example, the drop-in price for Hydrate + Glow is $145, while the drop-in price for the Lift + Tone is $165 and the All-In is $225.
Option 2: Become a Member
Ready to commit? A membership may be your best bet! There are five different memberships to choose from — the least expensive is Basic ($95/month) lets you alternate each month between a Hydrate + Glow and LED Lymphatic, while the priciest is Premium Flex ($585/month), where you personalize your treatment plan with four facials a month.

The Element by Westin Anaheim is only about a 15-minute walk from Disneyland! |
For starters, it's a hop, skip and a jump from Disneyland and California Adventure! While it's a bit further away from the parks than some of the other hotels, that doesn't mean it isn't convenient. It's located near the Toy Story parking lot area, so it's about a 15-20 minute walk from the parks, or a very short uber ride to the Harbor Street entrance.
I actually prefer to stay a bit further away from the park entrance sometimes, especially if I don't want to deal with the overwhelming crowds right at the crosswalks — so the Element by Westin Anaheim is perfect for those times.
Really — it's GORGEOUS inside. The hotel is so bright, spacious and airy, and just feels clean. From the lobby to the dining area, and especially inside the guest rooms, it's completely spic and span. It's clear that attention is paid to ensuring guests have a delightful experience from start to finish, and that starts wtih the property having that just-cleaned feeling.
I'm always a sucker for a room that comes with creature comforts, and the ones here have those in spades. They come equipped with a full kitchen — we're talking a stove, microwave and refrigerator! So if you're staying for multiple days and don't want to spend a ton of money on the food at Disneyland, this is a perfect option. The seating area is large, too, with a sectional and table.
But it's the beds and bathroom that really get my vote here. The beds are so comfortable — I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow! The bedding is super soft and plush, too. Meanwhile, the bathroom is huge, and the shower comes with full-sized products, which is always a plus in my book! Not to mention the water pressure is FANTASTIC. I can't confirm or deny this, but I may have taken 2-3 showers a day while I stayed here just because I loved the shower so much!
Yes, you read that right! Every stay at the Element by Westin Anaheim includes free breakfast. We're talking eggs, bacon, hash browns, yogurt, bagels, fruit ... the amount of choices was actually staggering. I was really impressed not only at the variety, but the quality of the food, too.
All in all, the Element by Westin Anaheim is absolutely worth a stay the next time you're going to Disneyland. I can't wait to stay here again!

One of my longest-running obsessions? Shower gel. I've been a faithful shower gel and body wash user since I was in high school and first discovered the magic of Caress. As I've gotten older, that love has only deepened, to the point that I have an entire rack of my three-tiered shower caddy dedicated solely to shower gels. At any given time, I have about 6-8 different ones at the ready. (What can I say, I like options!) And one of my current favorites? Jurlique Restoring Shower Gel in Lemon, Geranium & Clary Sage.
As soon as I first got this shower gel and opened up the cap, I was in for a world of spa-like delight. The scent is somehow at once soothing and arresting — it adds just the right amount of zing and tang to really wake me up in the morning while still somehow calming my soul.
It's formulated with a host of good-for-the-skin ingredients, including pure organic botanicals and natural aloe leaf extract (to calm skin and rebalance dryness). The trio of scents — Clary Sage, Lemon, and Geranium — emits a delightful fragrance that instantly transports me to the massage table in a fancy spa. Seriously, I want every massage oil to smell this good!Every time I lather up with this gem of a body wash, my skin is left feeling super soft, smooth, and moisturized. I use two pumps on a pouf, which creates an extraordinary amount of bubbles and suds that fully cleanse me from head to toe. (Well, technically, from neck to toe.)
I've loved Jurlique products for years, and this shower gel is definitely no exception. It's definitely a mainstay in my shower from now on!
Jurlique Restoring Shower Gel in Lemon, Geranium & Clary Sage retails for $31 at jurlique.com.
“You’re actually really cool,” Cameron said as he swam close to me in his Olympic-sized pool, gazing into my eyes with the combination of admiration and lust that only a new Tinder date can seem to muster. “Girls my age just don’t have anything to talk about. We should definitely hang out again sometime.”
It would be interesting enough if only one guy ever said that to me. But, truth be told, Cameron is just one of the dozens who have uttered those very same words — sometimes in a pool, sometimes in bed, sometimes on my couch, sometimes just over a text — but, honestly, it’s nothing I haven’t heard before.
Cameron was different, though — because he was the first. The first guy I ever talked to on Tinder and actually met in person. The first guy who said these words to me. The first guy I dated who was only 25. And, yes, I say “only” — because I’m over 40. And, more often than not, the only guys who will date me are 25.
I’ve gone in hard on the dating apps for seven years. Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, JSwipe, OKCupid, Match, Coffee Meets Bagel, JDate, you name it. And in that time, I’ve come to realize one very major thing. I am typically only attractive to guys in their 20s. “Men” who are 21-28, with the median age around 25, to be more precise.
You may be thinking, “Well, she must only swipe on guys in their 20s. What a cougar.” You’d be wrong. (And let’s not even get started on how a 40-year-old woman isn’t actually someone I consider old enough to be called a cougar in the first place, yet I’ve been called that, MILF and worse more than once.) I’ve set my age max as high as 55, just to see what happens.
My normal swiping range used to be between 23-49, mainly to see whether the assumptions I’ve ascertained about the young ones were correct. (I've since upped the lowest age to 30, because I'm now 43.) But there is a strange phenomenon that happens again and again — I swipe right on the men 30 and up. They just don’t swipe right on me.
This has become an anthropological study for me of sorts. And in my study of this phenomenon, I’ve come to discern that this is because of two very distinct factors. Most straight men seem to either want a) the younger woman, or b) the older woman (AKA the always popular Mrs. Robinson fantasy).
So, to a man in his early to mid 20s, a late-30-something or early 40-something woman is extremely desirable, especially since the younger woman would still be in high school. Add the fact that I’m not your stereotypical “older woman” and the desire rebounds on itself infinitely. Because, look. I’m a fashion and beauty writer. I have my own apartment in LA. I'm on TikTok. I don’t go to bed at 9:30 on a weeknight or have kids I need to get to school. I know what “lit” means. (The 20-somethings always get a kick out of that last one.) And, honestly, I look pretty young. I was blessed with great genes that still have me getting carded most places I go, so most guys in their 20s ask if I’m lying about my age and am actually 25. When I tell them that, yes, I am actually 40, the desire goes up even higher.
They either want the 20-something or the over-40-something — because these women are both sexier, and neither is as threatening as a woman in her late 30s or early 40s who must be ready to settle down and get married to the first over 30 guy who comes knocking. (This is solely what I assume they must think, since none of them will even match with me so I can find out if I’m right.) My profile doesn’t state those factors—I truly think my age alone is enough to scare them off. And, I don’t know for sure, but the fact that I look young may work as a deterrent for these older men as well, because maybe I just don’t look old enough for them to take me seriously if they were ever going to.
I’d been on Tinder for a few months, swiping, sort of haphazardly, matching with a few people but not really talking to them — and not really caring whether I actually ever met up with anyone. And then, one fateful Saturday night, that all changed. There I was, lying on my couch, Netflix on in the background, my thumb getting tired from swiping, starting to think, “I-might-be-giving-myself-carpal-tunnel-from-all-this-stupid-swiping-and-why-was-I-even-doing-it-in-the-first-place-and-maybe-I-should-just-stop-already-because-who-even-cares-right?”
Cameron came up. He was cute in a normal, not-too-hot-but-he-probably-knows-he’s-good-looking kind of way. His brown eyes looked kind, he had a bit of scruff, he looked fit without being too sculpted in stereotypical LA fashion. So I swiped right. And he swiped right. And we started messaging, fairly rapid fire, exchanging witty banter and subtle pleasantries. We had a weird but funny conversation about aliens, somehow stemming from the fact that I was from Cleveland. We moved to text fairly quickly, especially considering I’d never even really chatted with anyone on the app before, but it just felt right.
And then, after about 40 minutes of our aforementioned witty banter, came the fateful messages.
Me: “Where are you from?”
Cameron: “I’m an LA native. I have my own place, but right now I’m house sitting for my parents in Bel Air.”
Me: “Oooh, Bel Air? Look at you all fancy.”
Cameron: “Haha not really, it’s pretty normal. But they do have a heated pool that would feel amazing on this semi-cold May night. ;)”
Me: “Oh, is that so? Sounds nice. I’m not really a get in someone’s pool on the first night kind of gal, though.”
Cameron: “Well, we don’t have to do anything crazy or anything you’re not comfortable with. You don’t even have to sleep over if you’re not comfortable. But we can hang out and talk and smoke weed and go swimming.”
This definitely gave me pause. At the time, I'd never even talked to a guy on Tinder before. I'd certainly never been propositioned. And I have to admit — I. Was. Terrified. What if he was a serial killer? What if my head wound up in his freezer? What if the weed were laced with acid or meth or something? (It may be obvious at this point that I don't smoke much.)
1) What was this house in Bel Air like? (Yes, it may have been shallow, but come on. It’s Bel Air. And my only knowledge of that neighborhood at this point was what I’d seen on Fresh Prince).
2) What if we had fun and he was actually normal and we started dating?
So I did the (fairly) responsible thing — I texted my friend Gerold to let him know where I'd be and what (I assumed) I'd be doing. I sent him the guy's photo and told him if I didn't text by 1pm the next day, I was probably dead and he should call the cops.
Me: "Okay, I can be there in 40 minutes."
Cameron: "Awesome, see you then."
And, after the Uber driver and I got sufficiently lost (those people in Bel Air do NOT want strangers finding them), we got to the house. Cameron opened the door, and I'm pretty sure I emitted an audible sigh of relief when I saw that he looked exactly like his profile photos. He had a moderately deep voice, kind-looking brown eyes, and was sweet from the start. He got me a beer and took me out to the backyard, which was not only bigger than my whole apartment but which housed an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a full-on fireplace complete with stone hearth. It was a pretty chilly night, as LA nights go, and the fire definitely seemed inviting.
Cameron pulled up two chairs around the fire, keeping a respectable distance between us, and we continued the witty banter from our Tinder messaging. One beer turned into two, two turned into three, and he still hadn't made a move. "Maybe he just wanted to hang out and talk," I thought. Yeah, our chairs had been getting closer with each beer we opened, but there was no action.
Then we went into the kitchen to grab our fourth beer. As Cameron opened it, I leaned casually against the sink, laughing at a silly joke he told, my inner monologue still saying,
"COME ON ALREADY. ARE YOU GOING TO KISS ME OR WHAT!?"
BOOM. (That's the sound of the fireworks that were exploding in my chest.) Cameron grabbed me around the waist, pressed me up against the sink, and we started making out. I'm not sure how long the kissing lasted, but I do know that at some point I leaned back to catch my breath and asked, "So, are we gonna go swimming?" He led me outside and we slipped into the pool, where we swam and kissed and swam and kissed and swam some more. Then, we retired to his bedroom, falling onto the bed in a tangle of limbs.
And, even though I actually despise sleeping over at someone's place, I slept over — mainly because getting TO Bel Air was so difficult that I was worried an Uber would never find me in the dark at 3am.
In the morning light, Cameron seemed the same as he had in the late hours of the evening before. Kind eyes, slightly scruffy, average build. We shared some awkward conversation over a cup of coffee while I waited for my Uber to arrive. Cameron walked me to the door, kissed me goodbye, and I wondered — is that it? Was this just a hookup? Would I ever hear from him again?
Much to my surprise, Cameron texted me an hour later.
Cameron: "I had a great time last night. I definitely want to see you again."
Me: "Yeah, maybe sometime this week or next weekend?"
Cameron: "Sounds good to me."
We spent the next few days texting a LOT. That Friday night, I met him at a bar for drinks and then went back to his place. It seemed so easy, so effortless. Maybe I'd swiped my way into a relationship without even trying, I mused.
And so we carried on for a few months this way — texting during the week, meeting up during the weekend. Occasionally we'd meet up during the week, too, but those times were few and far between. And we didn't really ever GO anywhere — it pretty quickly turned into a friends with benefits situation (AKA FWB, which I subsequently found that the guys on Tinder sure do love asking if you're cool with right off the bat). We'd sleep together, we'd talk and laugh for an hour or so, Cameron would make some empty promises that were never actually carried out — one of which being him asking me for help going shopping and picking out a new wardrobe, which never came to pass when I texted him about it later.
Three months in, I was starting to wonder whether we'd ever progress past this, or if I should just end things. I went to his place one night, we kissed goodbye, I left. Two days later, I texted him to say hello, and got quite the surprising text back.
Cameron: "Sorry, I just started seeing someone, so I can't talk to you anymore. It was fun while it lasted!!"
Me [to myself, not actually texting back yet]: "WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK?!"
This text just felt so cavalier, so tossed off, so insensitive. Had all the times we'd slept together and spent time together really meant so little to Cameron that he could send me this text and just move on? I sat there, stunned, reading and rereading those words, having no idea what to actually say back or if I even SHOULD say anything back. Finally, I knew I had to say SOMETHING.
"Okay, wow. I really didn't expect that since we just slept together two days ago. It would have been nice if you at least had the decency to tell me that in person — or just not sleep with me at all when you were obviously about to get serious with someone else. Thanks a lot."
Predictably, there was no response. I've come to find that these men usually don't like to be told they're wrong, and if you call them out on it, they just say nothing rather than at least apologizing or taking responsibility for their actions.
Three years after Cameron and I met, I thought we were done for good. And then I received this.
Let's just say I blocked him after that and haven't heard from him since. Also, he was engaged to that girl he stopped seeing me for when he sent that.
To that end, I'm always testing and trying out new serums, looking for the latest and greatest ones to help moisturize, hydrate and nourish my skin. There are 6 serums I'm totally loving right now — read on to find out which ones are currently topping my list!
It fills. It plumps. It hydrates. Is there anything this serum doesn't do? If so, I haven't discovered it. I've bought, re-bought and bought it some more. I love the light honey scent, and the subtly thicker texture that's almost like a moisturizer — which renders the need for actual moisturizer useless. I like to use this serum in the mornings, and especially before photo shoots, since it imparts a luscious, plumped-up glow.
$48 at sephora.com
A serum that's also a sunscreen?! I am, in a word, obsessed. The texture is satiny and smooth, and it sinks right into skin without leaving any stickiness behind. It's formulated with a blend of watermelon extract, tomato extract, jojoba and squalane, so it's ultra nourishing. Plus, with its beautiful matte glass bottle and holographic lettering, the packaging is just undeniably chic. This is a must in my morning skincare routine!
$36 at nakedsundays.com
I've been using this serum for years. I quite literally cannot live without it. I use a dropper full of it every morning before applying the rest of my skincare products, and my skin is always super soft and smooth! The price has gone up a bit since I started using it (it used to only be $6!), but it's definitely still on the affordable end of skincare products that actually work. Holy grail product right here.
$8.90-$15.70 at sephora.com
Ah, Mario Badescu. I've been a longtime fan of this brand, dating all the way back to the early 2000s when I used to visit their skincare spa in New York. I've only had good experiences with their products, and this serum is no different! I love that it's formulated with everything from Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 to hyaluronic acid and aloe vera, so my skin is plumped, nourished and soothed simultaneously. I actually like to use it on my neck and décolletage, and I've definitely noticed a decrease in the appearance of wrinkles when I do!
$45 at nordstrom.com
Oh, Herbivore Botanicals. How I've fallen in love with you over the years. And when I tell you that this serum is EV-ERY-THING, I'm not exaggerating. This is the lightweight, non-sticky serum I reach for when I need a little extra hydration and bounciness in my skin — and with one simple dropper full, my skin is unbelievably happy. The inclusion of tremella mushroom — an alternative to hyaluronic acid — helps skin retain moisture. Plus, it's pink! This serum is always, always on my vanity. (I've bought it at least 5 times already!)
$48 at herbivorebotanicals.com
This is the newest serum to come into my life, and has quickly become a skincare routine staple. As if the purple bottle weren't enough, the milky white formula inside does a ton of skincare heavy lifting (without actually feeling heavy on your skin, of course). It's packed with hyaluronic acid, meadowfoam seed oil and a natural fruit complex of watermelon, apple and lentil extracts to leave skin looking and feeling soft, silky and hydrated beyond belief. I actually like to use it not just on my face, but my hands, too — I've definitely seen a difference in how pillowy soft my hands look!

Easy. Leak-proof. Perfect for travel. Oh, and they fit in TSA-approved, quart-sized bags that you can bring on your next flight. I'm talking about Cadence refillable containers, of course! I’d been so curious about this brand for the longest time. I finally got a 6-pack capsule system, filled them up for a few recent trips, and instantly fell in love!
In my ongoing efforts to become more sustainable, I first grew interested in Cadence because of the reusable nature of the capsules. You don't just use it once and throw it away — you fill it up time and again, so you're reducing waste over time. I really hadn't thought much about single-use plastics before the last couple of years, but I have made much more of an effort recently to discontinue my use of them — or at least find new ways to reuse them. Cadence takes it to the next level by creating these multi-use containers out of recycled ocean-bound plastic! And they take this commitment to sustainability even further by sending your capsules in 100% recyclable cardboard with seed paper that can even be planted and turned into wildflowers. Is that cool or what?!
The Cadence Capsule System comes in packs of 6 ($84) or 12 ($168). You choose the colors, tiles and labels (either words or cute icons) of each container, and you can mix and match! I selected three each of Lavender and Charcoal, and decided to use them for my beauty and skincare routine.
I decided to focus on the gels, lotions and potions I'd need to decant for my travel beauty routine. The six products I decided to get capsules for are:
Shampoo
Conditioner
Body Wash
Face Serum
Face Moisturizer
Cleanser
Curious about how I decanted my shampoo, conditioner and body wash into my Cadence capsules? Watch my Instagram reel here!
While I was pretty set on my color choices — honestly, they just spoke to me! — it was definitely difficult for me to choose the labels for each of my capsules. I varied between words and icons, but ultimately chose words because, well, I'm a writer and I like words. (Very scientific reason, I know.) However, the icons are so cute that now I want another set with different colors and only icons! Such is the magic of Cadence.
One thing to consider is that you can use these capsules for more than just products. They're perfect for carting travel-sized needs of pills and medicines, too. I've actually been using one of my Charcoal capsules for my aspirin when I'm doing long days at Disneyland and need to alleviate the pressure in my ankle. The single capsule is perfectly sized for even the smallest purse, and holds at least a few doses of medication depending on the size.
Another fun fact: The capsules are magnetic! They stick to each other in fun arrays. Honestly, one of the most fun parts of owning these capsules is arranging them in different ways! The tops also stay on really well, so no leakage during traveling. (And they’re all quart size bag approved!)
These containers are so functional and easy to use, and they make packing fun instead of a chore. I’m obviously already looking to buy my next set!
Cadence capsules are available individually for $14, in a Build Your 6 Set for $76 (normally $84), or in a Build Your 12 Set for $143 (normally $168). Pick up your favorites at keepyourcadence.com.
Need a fabulous hotel that’s close to Disneyland? Look no further than Grand Legacy at the Park!
My family and I stayed here for our Disney trip over Thanksgiving weekend and had the absolute best time. There’s a LOT to love here — these are my top 5 reasons a stay at Grand Legacy at the Park is totally worth it!
The location seriously can’t be beat. It’s right across the street from the Harbor Blvd. park entrance — a 5-minute walk to security at most!
Check-in is easy and seamless. We arrived early in the morning and were able to do a pre-check in (since our rooms weren’t ready yet) and park our car there for the day. In and out in about 5 minutes!
The rooms are large and easily accommodate 2-4 people. We got 2 adjoining rooms and had plenty of space.
Speaking of the rooms, the beds are SUPER comfortable! I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow and I didn’t wake up once during the night — and I don’t think that’s just because I walked 9 miles at the park! The mattresses are just the right combo of soft and firm to give you an excellent night’s sleep.
The hotel has fantastic little extras, like refreshing infused water in the hotel lobby that they change up daily — the flavors during our stay were watermelon and lemon.
And there you have it! All in all, a truly fantastic stay — and a hotel I’d go back to in a heartbeat!

If you’re like me, you dread making the bed. Well, I felt like that until the Nolah Bamboo Sheet Set in Queen came into my life, anyway! With this set, I actually look forward to putting new sheets on the bed. Keep reading to see why!
I’m partial to very, VERY soft sheets. I tend to buy ones that are a minimum of 700 thread count (don’t judge me!), and I want them feeling as sleek and smooth as humanly possible. Well, this sheet set is, in a word, EVERYTHING.
These sheets are so soft, so smooth, so sleek, that I swear my sleep has improved just by using them! I typically toss and turn through the night, waking up at least once and never sleeping past 6:30am. Every time I put these sheets on my bed, I sleep solidly for 7-8 hours. Seriously. I just sink into bed and it’s lights out til morning!
Some more details about the Nolah Bamboo Sheet Set:
💤 The sheets are satiny-smooth
💤 They’re Oeko-Tex 100 certified, free from harmful chemicals and naturally hypoallergenic

From the moment we arrived, our experience couldn't have been more enjoyable. Our waiter was funny, charming, and even brought us a special treat with our starter shots to welcome us in sexy style. It really set the tone for a fun evening!
My mom and I were dying over the names of all the desserts and drinks. Think names like The Klimax, Sex Appeal, Super Soaker, Peanut Butter Perversion, Caress My Carrot ... the sexy list goes on!It was definitely tough — or should I say hard? — to choose what we wanted, because everything sounded utterly delectable! Ultimately, we went for:
Love Potion 69 Shots: A blend of almond-infused vodka, vanilla bean and honey, and topped with whipped creamJust a Gigolo: A martini with Grey Goose vodka, Hpnotiq, blue raspberry and orange juice, and rimmed with edible rainbow glitter flakes
Man Candy: Strawberry ale in a white and dark chocolate rimmed beer glass (I forgot to take a pic of this one, how dare I!)
Missionary Crisp: Red Delicious apples, salted graham cracker crumble and vanilla bean balls
Fever: Chocolate cake with chocolate pudding and vanilla bean ballsAs you can see, we definitely went all out!
The ambiance is also quite cool. It's dimly lit throughout, with banquettes and sexy photos on the walls. I loved the tin ceiling and the way the menus were presented on individual tablets!
Better Than Sex is such a fun, unique restaurant in LA. It's absolutely worth a visit! See the menu and make reservations at betterthansexdesserts.com.
Okay, but how SERIOUSLY CUTE is Coffee Dose? While I was out in Costa Mesa this weekend visiting my friend Todd, we decided to pop in to this new coffee shop — and wow, are we glad we did!
This spot is not only super cute and fun, but everything on the menu is delectable! I love all the pops of pink and the malt shop vibe, down to the marbled pink countertop.
I opted for the Foxy Loxy and the special Peach tea. My friend got a spicy Bloody Mary, which was out of this world! (I would have gotten a cocktail, but was headed to Disneyland right after and wanted to be clear headed.
Plus, the branding is just so, SO fun. I love the inclusive yet snarky vibe of moments like “Get in loser” on the coffee sleeves and “F*ck mornings” on the plates. It’s irreverent and unique, and definitely makes me want to come back for more!
It's in Costa Mesa, so not technically Los Angeles but Orange County — but close enough! If you’re in Costa Mesa, I definitely recommend popping into this hot new spot. It does tend to get pretty busy, especially on weekends, so I’d recommend going earlier as it’s first come first serve and the line gets LONG. You won’t be disappointed!

Yzma is one of those
characters you just love to hate … or maybe you just love to love! She’s
evil to the core, but somehow, you just don’t mind that. Maybe it’s
because the fabulous Eartha Kitt voiced her, maybe it’s because I want
to create potions like her, maybe it’s because I love her wardrobe.
Whatever the case, she’s fabulous and I’m here for it!

Underneath Sebastian’s
hard, crabby exterior, he really is a softie. He just wants the
(mer)people he cares about to be happy, and to be loved. And that’s
exactly how I feel about all of my friends in the LGBTQIA+ community! I
will never stop swimming toward what’s right — and I might even sing a
little along the way.
Tiered Ruffle Maxi Dress: Anthropologie from Nuuly. Heart Sunglasses: Castle Crystals. Seahorse Earrings: Femme de Bloom. Peep-Toe Sandals: Ralph Lauren.
"2319! We have a 2319!" George is just one of
those monsters who gets a bad break. He didn’t MEAN to have a sock stuck
to his back! I also like that the color orange on the Pride Flag represents healing — and George definitely represents that!
Orange and Yellow Polka Dot Dress: Urban Outfitters. Headband: Made by Magic Designs. Strappy Sandals: JustFab.
On the Pride Flag,
yellow represents sunlight. Jane feels very sunny to me — and it’s not
just because of her signature yellow dress or the fact that once she
meets Tarzan, she spends all her time in the sun! Her whole personality
is sunny — she’s enthusiastic, bright, inquisitive, intelligent,
empathetic. She truly shines as a character. As far as bringing her
to life goes — I chose my banana earrings to represent her time in the
jungle with Tarzan and his ape family. The purple purse represents her
scarf. (Here’s a hack — it’s actually my Stoney Clover Lane rainbow purse turned around!)
Dress: Who What Wear Collection for Target. Hat: Lanzom Hats. Heart Sunglasses: Amazon Fashion. Banana Earrings: Vinca. Purse: Stoney Clover Lane for Target. Peep-Toe Booties: JustFab.
“There’s room for
everyone in this world. Back up and make some room. Let’s all move over
and share this world — everyone make some room!” The words of this song always resonate with me. Our world is big enough that everyone — EVERYONE should feel loved and accepted. Green stands for nature on the Pride Flag.
While Elliott might not actually BE nature, he does spend all of his
time in it — and, when he first gets Pete away from the evil Gogans,
that’s where they spend their time. Plus, if you expand nature to think
of it as good natured, Elliott is that in spades! Always looking out for
those who are downtrodden and helping them to find happiness and peace. I simply had to break
out my Elliott popcorn bucket for this bound! I replicated his wings and
fluffy hair with a pink headband and pink ruffled sandals.
Tiered Maxi Dress: Christopher John Rogers for Target. Metallic Bow Headband: Chronicles of a Pixie. Elliott Popcorn Bucket: Disneyland. Ruffled Open-Toe Sandals: Betsey Johnson from Unique Vintage.
“Whooo … areee … youuu?” I’ve actually wanted to bound as the Caterpillar for awhile — and it finally came together! Blue represents serenity on the Pride Flag — and I’d say the Caterpillar is pretty darn serene.
Printed Dress: Free People from Nuuly. Pearl Headband: Amazon Fashion. Sunglasses: Grinder Punch. Mushroom Purse: Quirky Crate. Gold Ruffled Mules: Free People.
“All at once, everything is different — now that I see you.” On the Pride Flag,
purple represents spirit. Punzie has that in spades! She has the
courage and determination to go after what she wants, and she inspires
other people to do the same. She’s such a strong female character,
and one I think we can all look up to.
Printed Dress: Free People from Nuuly. Daisy Sunglasses: Ban.do. Rapunzel Head Purse: Danielle Nicole Handbags. Jeweled Rhinestone Sandals: ASOS.
"He flewed!" Michael is such a
cute, precocious little thing. I had a lot of fun putting this bound
together — especially when I found this super cute teddy bear purse! I
mean really, how adorable is this?!
Tiered Maxi Dress: BTFBM. Bow Headband and Teddy Bear Purse: Amazon Fashion. Heart Sunglasses: Castle Crystals.
Feeling knotty? Better head to Squeeze! This has been my favorite massage spot in LA ever since they opened, so when I started experiencing a random bout of sciatic pain this week, I knew it was the only place I trusted to help a gal in knead.
Okay, I’ll stop with the massage puns. But, seriously, Squeeze is the BEST. I’ve been in so much pain this week after my first sciatica experience ever — even having 2 days where I literally couldn’t sit for longer than 15 seconds without shooting pain in my lower back and left hip. Thankfully, Squeeze was there to save the day!
I booked a last minute appointment for a Saturday morning at 8am — yes, that early during a holiday weekend! — to alleviate some of the pain and pressure. I saw Stephanie, and OMG. When I tell you she has magic hands, I am not kidding!! She knew exactly how to work out my knots and ease the pressure on my left side. I spent 80 minutes in total bliss!
And here’s why I love Squeeze so much — aside from the amazing massages, of course!
1) You customize every bit of your experience, from how much pressure you’d like to the scents you want your therapist to use.
2) Booking, preferences and even payment are all handled right on the app.
3) Your massage therapist actually looks at your preferences and talks to you before your session to really make sure you’re getting what you want and need out of it.
4) You can read reviews of all the different massage therapists on the app, so you can pick the one who will be the best for you.
I always come away from an appointment at Squeeze feeling like jello in the absolute best way. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you I’ve had some of the best massages of my life here!

During my recent trip to Boston, I had the absolute pleasure of staying at The Godfrey Hotel Boston. This is, hands down, one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever stayed in!
From the moment my mom and I arrived until the moment we (sadly) had to leave, we were treated like queens and enjoyed every single second. We did actually move rooms after our first night, since we could hear a little too much street noise from our first room — but the hotel was so gracious about it and ensured our next room was pin drop silent. Aside from that one minor inconvenience, I have only wonderful things to say about my experience!
First of all, the beds are so comfortable that I literally fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow every night. The rain shower head was so hot and powerful that I never wanted to leave the shower. And the rooms were perfectly equipped with everything we could desire — from free water, coffee, and snacks, to complimentary Frette robes!

I love the lavender denim and the adorable allover Care Bears print. As soon as I put them on, I can’t help but smile! Add a few perfectly themed accessories and voila! I’m a Care Bear!
And for those of you like me who think you might be too big or curvy to wear shortalls and overalls — I’m here to tell you that you CAN! I used to love overalls and owned at least 12 pairs in high school and college — but since then, I got a little curvier and didn’t think they would fit me anymore. These Her Universe shortalls fit like a glove! I’m so happy that this brand really is size inclusive and makes clothing that fun-loving gals (like me!) can wear no matter what our size.
These shortalls and the rest of the super cute Care Bears collection are available now at heruniverse.com. The shortalls retail for $54.92. Get your Care Bear Stare ready!
