4 Secrets to a Great Outdoor Space 31 Dec 2011 1:32 AM (13 years ago)

Summertime means spending more time outside, in the outdoor spaces of our homes that are pretty much ignored during the winter months. But whether that outdoor space feels inviting, comfortable and practical will depend on how well you’ve done your planning. Honoring  just a few principles can help you create a pleasant outdoor space that you can enjoy all summer long.
Here are a few tips:
1) Create spaces for intimate chats AND large gatherings. Your space should be able to handle multiple situations, whether it’s an afternoon iced tea with a friend, a morning out sunbathing alone, or a large dinner or cocktail party. Arrange furniture into groups that can handle all situations, or invest in stackable and double-duty furniture  pieces that can be pulled out easily to accomodate larger groups.

2) Create both shady and sunny spots. There are times you want to lie in the sun and other times that you want to take refuge from it. A good outdoor space will provide places to do both. A space isn’t working well if it feels barren and forbidding in the heat of summer for lack of shade or too cold to enjoy on cooler summer days because the sun can’t get through.

3) When it comes to plants, investigate those that shed least. If you don’t want to engage in major clean-up of your outdoor space on practically a daily basis, you’ll want to avoid plants that shed blooms or leaves continuously. For example, while pine trees can provide wonderful shade, continuously falling pine needles can also make for constant sweeping and raking. Talk to your local garden center about plantings best suited to be planted near an outdoor patio.

4) Don’t forget the lighting. People sometimes forget that lighting outdoors is just as important for setting ambiance as lighting indoors. Since patios often get use in the hours after sundown, plan a multiple source lighting scheme that will provide a feeling of intimacy and romance, but also allow you to see what you’re doing. Popular options include lights on a string, as well as candles. A patio light on a dimmer switch will also allow you to create a mood.

tips on renovating the doors to add value to sell house 31 Dec 2011 1:22 AM (13 years ago)

With sales of new and existing homes remaining slow nationwide, many homeowners are looking for ways to add value now. Installing stylish interior doors and replacing old exterior trim are two great ways to make your home look even better today and sell it for more later.
Doors can offer so much more than entry into a room. Because they are made in various panel designs and can be easily painted or stained, interior doors have become a key part of a home’s overall decor.
“Many homes have plain flush doors that look rather boring,” says Bob Merrill, president and CEO for Chicago-based CMI, which makes CraftMaster Interior Doors. “One of the easiest ways to dramatically change the look inside your home is by replacing your current doors with raised- or flat-panel molded doors. New doors add fresh style, character and personality.”
Molded interior doors are made to resist swelling, shrinking, cracking and splitting. “CraftMaster also makes eco-friendly green doors that contain sustainable materials, recycled content, low VOC primers and have low formaldehyde emissions,” Merrill adds.
Typically, a home has around 17 interior doors, including passage and bifold (closet) doors. In many homes, those doors have a hollow core. Replacing standard, hollow core doors with solid core doors to add weight and reduce noise is a popular DIY project.

Practical Kitchen Idea by Designer Jasmine Hape 30 Dec 2011 3:32 PM (13 years ago)

sent us a kitchen project she designed for a client in Reno, Nevada, USA. Here are some personal comments she sent, together with the photos of the project: “My client wanted to have more light coming in and have a look at the huge terrace overlooking the swimming pool, so we installed this 18 foot long sliding door (4 parts, 2 sliding) and opened the space in the dining room. She also wanted a more modern look that would mix well with the furniture she had. We put faux slate on the floor, glass mosaic tiles on the backsplash, stainless countertops, quartz island. The main challenge was not to have upper closets above the gas stove, she wanted a sleek look so I also designed the huge cupboard, made of stainless and frosted glass, to have maximum space for food and plates. Dining room chandelier is chrome and crystal, pendants above island are chrome and blue glass. Stools are chrome and white leather. We also renovated the entrance, the powder room and the foyer“. Find this project inspiring?

Creative Chair Design: IKEA’s Dalfred Stool with Brooks Saddle 30 Dec 2011 3:23 PM (13 years ago)

We found this crazy, but very captivating design on IKEA Hackers that we just had to share further.IKEA’s Dalfred Stool was given a new fresh look with an addition that could probably puzzle some.

After all, a saddle is not the most comfortable seating unit in the world. However, according to some people who experienced the chair, it is as smooth as it gets. In case you are wondering about the complexity of the building process, here is a statement from the project developers: “We replaced the nondescript seat of the Dalfred stool with a beautiful, broad, bouncy Brooks B135 leather bicycle saddle. This required grinding away some plastic at the top of the mounting post to expose metal of the right diameter to fix the saddle to.

Creative Chair Design saddle

That’s pretty much it.” We really enjoyed this simple and out-of-the-box idea and are curious to see you reactions.

Home Interior happy new year Party 2012 29 Dec 2011 6:44 PM (13 years ago)

happy new year 2012
If you have a home interior party set up but you don’t have anymore on the calendar then you need to fill it up. There are many ways to book additional parties and the way to be the most successful is to schedule as many as you can. The best ways to encourage guests to want to hold a home party is by continuously reminding them at the party, when they make purchases, and even offering additional incentives.

Many of the guests that attend a home interior party don’t always know that you can hold one at their house. You must remind them that anyone can hold a party and you are more than happy to come to their home too. The great thing is that each guest will have their own set of friends, which will allow you to meet new people and expand your customer base. Always let the guests know on a couple of different occasions they can hold their own party at their house. The best times to do this are when they mention that their mother or one of their friends would have absolutely loved the items you are selling.
romantic happy new year Party 2012

When the guests make purchases of the products you sell, this is an excellent time to provide a reminder that they can book a day with you for their own event. If you have already said it enough then you should slip a reminder along with the receipt in the bag. This reminder can be in the form of a business card with your contact information. Make sure the card tells them to book their next event.

One very easy way to get bookings is to let everyone know about the incentives you are offering to the host of the home interior party you are holding that night. Many people will allow the host to have first pick of one free item from the product inventory and also allow all purchases to be made at 50% off or another discount. When you offer incentives to the host you have to let all of the guests know that they are getting the great rates and they can get them too when they hold their own party. You may also offer to guests up to 10% off on their purchases at the party if they book with you their own home interior party. Many people immediately put their name on a date if they can get an instant discount on their purchases.

Booking additional parties is really simple to do while you are currently holding a home interior party. It is very important to show the guests the big discounts and incentives they can get when they hold their own event. Guests are usually very responsive when they see they can save money and get free products. You want to be sure your calendar is always full. This will ensure you make the most money with your home party business and you expand your customer base.

Casual living room interior can created by combining colorful furniture sets from the sofas, sofa bed, comfortable and thick carpet, cushions, and curtain. Casual atmosphere will created with the decor that is not formal, for example, there was couches with a bench in one living room, in semi open space room complete with curtain, even thick carpet with cushion to sit on the floor. Living Room of an Art Collector by Gisele Taranto 24 Dec 2011 9:52 PM (13 years ago)

Brazilian architect Gisele Taranto in collaboration with art curator Mara Fainziliber and lighting designer Maneco Quinderé created an interior called Living Room of an Art Collector, as part of Casa Cor, an important event of national architecture and decoration held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The brief of the project was to create a place where tradition meets contemporary decoration, in a pleasant manner. Here is small description from Gisele Taranto: “Ceiling, floor and walls were kept as originally and received pieces of art and designed furniture. The biggest challenge was to show that it is possible to add contemporaneity to any historical room, giving emphasis to both. Pieces of renowned and new promising artists, national and internationally, were used in the space.” Even though this massive, 1000 square foot living room is not something one could easily recreate, some of the decorating elements found here are beautiful, practical and inspiring.

TIPS INTERIOR SMALL ROOM FURNITURE 22 Dec 2011 6:02 AM (13 years ago)

Organize a small interior room is often puzzling to you. While the need to store goods and the collection as if you can not be compromised. Call it a bedroom the size of a mediocre 2 × 3 meters. Many functions must be carried at once. Ranging from mattresses to sleep, clothes, books to hobby equipment.
The living room and family should not only be packed with guest chairs, televisions, and display.
But also a collection of souvenirs, newspapers / magazines, umbrella and a shoe to your helmet. It may even dining table and chairs. Such difficulties experienced by the owners of a small house or apartment trumah small studios.

Designing the Inner and Outer
In essence I want to say is when you think of the furniture you have to consider two things. Ie design the interior and exterior. Settled on the exterior only, newly completed half the problem. You should consider the function on the inside.
In the example below I show both external and internal design in the design of a kitchen set. When designing the inside, we do a lot of discussion with the owner. Among others on goods that will be stored in cabinets cabinet. Which is often used and rarely used as well, the activity of cooking anything that quite often done.

Storage and Built-in Wardrobe
Built in wardrobe cupboard is mounted on a wall niche, so that the surface is parallel to the overall wall cabinet / wall. Built-in cabinets in design to the ceiling will provide a large enough space, but its presence tidap need to make a narrow room.
Wogg, a German designer, tried to show a closet built-ins that are installed in the living room / living room small house. It functioned as a storage closet for items that are often used to the outdoors, such as shoes, hats and raincoats / umbrellas. It's all trivial stuff that often interfere with the interior because it is not well laid out.

Overall core tips of my time is: when utilizing the services of an interior designer may be beyond your consideration, and managing the home while filling urgent. Do not go to a furniture store that is ready to sell finished goods. You can search for craftsman furniture or cabinet maker. Discuss the details with the inner functions of the furniture you ordered. Convey the size and number of the goods properly.
Thus, no goods are scattered because they have no place. Or size of furniture all liability which can not be used optimally.

beauty Toilet & unix Washbasin Combo 22 Dec 2011 5:43 AM (13 years ago)

Those of us who live in small apartments or houses often have to deal with a lack of floorspace, which requires some degree of creative thinking when it comes to configuring our rooms.
Spanish bathroom manufacturer Roca is a rather unusual design with a number of unique features and benefits. Designed by Gabriele and Oscar Buratti, W+W actually stands for Washbasin + Watercloset and that is exactly what it is – a washbasin that has been merged with a toilet to create one singular and innovative new product for the bathroom.
The W+W unit combines functionality and watersaving benefits with an attractive design. The unit is ideal for homes, offices, or for use in public bathrooms.

Featuring Roca’s “water-reuse technology”, the unit reuses waste water from the washbasin to fill the toilet cistern, thereby reducing total water usage in the bathroom by up to 25% in comparison to a standard 6/3-litre toilet.

Bathrooms and toilets in particular can be tricky and the configuration is often dictated by the plumbing outlets to a certain extent. But here at Freshome we are always on the lookout for innovative and creative ways to transform small homes into practical, workable and enjoyable spaces.

We would love to hear what you think about this washbasin toilet combo. Let us know in the comments below.
