Kitchen Disaster Night 23 Sep 2011 2:58 AM (13 years ago)

It all started when I was leading the cooking yesterday night. First I did not put enough water in the rice which resulted in the rice being half cooked. Then the beans for the curry were not uniformly cut which resulted in the smaller pieces being over cooked and the larger ones semi-cooked. Also there was some problem with the bore well in the apartment and the taps went dry. The Sambar turned out fine though.

After getting the Sambar done, we had to repair the rice by putting one more glass of water in the semi-cooked rice and this time, we forgot to pour water in the cooker which resulted in the pressure cooker’s safety valve to burst. The rice was surprisingly done (although it smelled funny).

There was some Sambar left which I kept in the fridge for eating with Dosa next morning but that accidentally got knocked over spilling the Sambar all over inside the fridge . Did I mention we didn’t have any water to clean?

P.S: The food however was tasty.

Bachelor Kitchen Tip: If you let milk rot for three weeks, it smells exactly like a decomposing rat.

Riots in London 9 Aug 2011 2:22 AM (13 years ago)

The riots in London remind me of this routine by George Carlin.

Are you sick of this “royal family” shit? Who gives a fuck about these people? Who cares about the English in general? The uncivilized, murderous, backward English. Inbred savages hiding behind Shakespeare, pretending to be cultured. Don’t be misled by the manners – if you want to know what lurks beneath the surface, take a look at soccer crowds. That’s the true British character. I’m Irish and American, and we had to kick these degenerate mother fuckers out of both countries.

The state of Affairs 2 Aug 2011 12:45 AM (13 years ago)

Manmohan Singh’s personal integrity is like Connie’s wedding from The Godfather – just a temporary legit frontend for Don Corleone’s business-as-usual in the back office. UPA-II looks increasingly looks like Connie’s second marriage!

Grades in college are essentially meaningless 31 May 2011 8:39 AM (13 years ago)

Proof: It is a fallacy because you start with a normal distribution in the first year, and because the failing students are removed from the tail, the shape of the distribution in the second year isn’t normal anymore. In particular the variance is reduced. Using a normal distribution to score tests year after year artificially increases the variance by multiplying what is essentially noise. This mechanism ensures that the final rankings at the end of college are essentially meaningless.

Why is a hunger-strike is considered to be a peaceful form of protest? 9 Apr 2011 10:40 PM (14 years ago)

Consider this situation:

There is this guy sitting in a public place with a time bomb strapped to his waist. He makes a particular demand (edit: the demand is by nature quite selfless and good for the society) and threatens to blow himself up in four days unless his demands are met. Would you consider such a form of protest peaceful?

If your answer is NO, How is this form of protest any different from a fast-unto-death by the same person with the same demands? After all, both the forms of protest give the same result (assuming there are no people next to the crazy guy with the bomb).

Is dying slowly over a period of some days more acceptable than dying suddenly after the same number of days? Why is a hunger-strike considered to be a peaceful form of protest?

Which Sagarika to believe? 17 Mar 2011 11:15 AM (14 years ago)

15 months back when this movie called 3 idiots came out and went on to become one of the biggest hits of all time, Sagarika was not happy with the message the movie was sending. She was concerned about how the young of India perceive their education system. And to send us the message straight away, she tweeted this and this.

The young people heard what she said. They straightened themselves up, realized the importance of the systems in place and excelling in it the hard way. They also realized the importance of respecting our culture, parents, history and other things and just when we thought that finally Sagarika would approve of us as worthy successors to this great nation, she rants…

|———— http://bit.ly/g7TJeA

“The young’s relationship with their parents is very conventional.

…

The young are not only incredibly family- minded, they are also extremely socially conservative.

In some ways it also shows that in spite of films like `Udaan’ or `ThreeIdiots’ which interrogate parental diktat on children destinies, questioning or challenging parents is simply not part of the mentality of today’s young.

With such a shockingly conventional generation, where one might ask are the free thinkers, the adventurers, the Mark Zuckerbergs and the Bill Gates going to come from?”

————|

Which Sagarika should we listen to? The one who warns us to not take the movie 3 idiots seriously or the one who laments that we did not take the movie seriously? Sagarika, what should we do to make you happy?

Budugu walks in front a mirror, looks into it, folds his hand (in namaskaaram fashion) and starts singing: “okkaDae mahaanubhaavudu, aa okkadiki vandanamulu…

Seee Gaana Pesoonamba rushes into the frame and starts yelling: “mashtaaru, veedu, paatanu khooni chestunnaadu!

Budugu looks at Seee Gaana Pesoonamba obligingly and corrects his song, this time turned toward her: “iddare mahaanubhalu, aa iddarikee vandanamulu…

Seee Gaana Pesoonamba is pleased!

Tusshar Kapoor and the purpose of life 15 Feb 2011 6:20 PM (14 years ago)

I was at café coffee day the other day with a friend. On the TV screen there, I saw Tusshar Kapoor dancing in a pub with the volume on mute. It was so disturbing that I have no words to describe. It was one of those rare moments of profound philosophical insight where you begin to question everything. I could easily imagine how King Siddhartha would have felt after witnessing the fourth stage of suffering before giving up everything and become the Buddha.

Now seriously,14 billion years after the big bang, 4 billion years of evolution, 100,000 years on top of the food chain, 2 ice ages, 5000 years of civilization, 1000s of revolutions, 2 world wars, theory of relativity, satellite technology, artificial intelligence, plasma TV and all of that to watch Tusshar Kapoor dance? With no music? That too on Doordarshan? Is this the beginning of the end?

Karan Johar and Vodafone Customer Care 3 Feb 2011 9:54 AM (14 years ago)

Till recently, my feelings towards Bollywood were that of condescending disrespect but after the recent filmfare awards, I have a new found disgust for it. When I saw someone on Twitter posting that Karan Johar was awarded the best director for “My name is Khan”, I thought he was kidding. A couple of days later, I learned that it was for real!

First of all, among the nominees, there is Peepli Live – probably the best Hindi movie in the last decade. It’s the kind of a movie that is worth at least a couple of Oscars in terms of quality. And yet, Filmfare celebrates Karan Johar’s pathetic mediocrity over Anusha Rizvi’s brilliance! Needless to say, Karan Johar is extremely happy and proud of his achievement. I wonder how he lives with himself!

                                                  ***

My Vodafone outgoing services were suspended because they wanted me to submit my documents again. I told the customer care that I am going to submit the same documents at the Airtel office and switch. Services were restored in ten minutes!

An inspiring story of how I changed the world 29 Jan 2011 6:51 AM (14 years ago)

Don’t believe me? Look at this..

Barely one week after I wrote The ads must be Crazy, The ministry of information and broadcasting has issued a notice to Ten Cricket for violation of the advertising code which all broadcasters sign. This is in response to numerous complaints it received for it’s greedy telecast of the recent India South Africa series!

Looks like Ten Cricket just clicked “I Agree” to the license agreement without fully reading the license agreement! *Boom*

Now you may ask what my contribution is to the whole changing the face of broadcasting thing. I have to tell you that you’re very very naive my friend. Clearly you are not aware of my ground breaking management theory way back in 2009, Leadership by Ineptitude. Well, summing up, my contribution was immense!

Miniskirt or fastfood? 27 Jan 2011 9:35 AM (14 years ago)

Every blog post in gtoosphere usually undergoes a tedious process of “idea -> research -> first draft -> discussion -> second draft -> photoshop -> publish”  and it takes about two weeks to do that! I usually work on two or three ideas simultaneously to try to average one post per week.

However, there is a lot of goofy shit happening around the world and I am not quite able to keep up with it! That is where this tumble blog comes in. This is like the junk food that we eat in between meals (where meals = posts on gtoosphere) which is why my left brain wants this to named gtoosphere… the fastfood edition.

Also I intend to keep the posts short enough to pertain interest and long enough to cover the subject which is why my right brain wants this to be named gtoosphere… the miniskirt edition

Which one do you think is more apt?
