    MXit 5.4.1 released today 27 Dec 2007 5:48 AM (17 years ago)

    MXit V5.4.1 is out today!

A new version (5.4.1) of the MXit mobile client has been released.

This is a bugfix release that does not add new functionality.

The following bugs have been fixed:

    1. File send (upload) speed has been improved significantly.
    2. Minimum PIN length when registering has been changed to 7 digits.
    3. The Alerts profiles have been extended so that markup and vibes can be enabled / disable on a per profile case. This would allow people to protect themselves from getting spammed with vibes in e.g. chatrooms by for example putting all the chatrooms in a group, disabling vibes and markup for a specific profile (e.g. silent), and assigning that profile to the group
    4. Popup menu now displays items correctly in all cases (previously it was sometimes incorrectly scrolled down when shown for the first time)
    5. Indonesian language support has been added.
    6. The default progress icon has been updated a bit (has MXit text inside)
    7. Sony Ericsson K700 and Motorola V360, V3 and V3i versions have been updated so that they use less memory. The default skin that is used for those version has also been simplified.
    8. Fixed the issue with custom emoticon packs going missing (when deleting pack and adding new one)
    9. Voice recorder for Nokia 6233 (and other Series 40 3rd Ed SP1 & SP2 phones now works correctly)
    10. Samsung U700: Pressing left arrow in Name field of save messages screen does not freeze app anymore.
    11. Skins with names that are longer than 23 characters can now be activated (again).
    12. Camera is now disabled for Nokia E60 (since E60 does not have camera support)
    13. Stylus support is now enabled for all v5.4 handsets
    14. Save messages (to gallery) feature has been improved: big messages are now saved correctly and color markup (#RRGGBB) is not saved unnecessarily anymore.

And they chatted happily ever after 27 Nov 2007 8:55 AM (17 years ago)

Found a hilarious piece on the internet about a fictional “MXit wedding” taking place!
Please share in our Joy - Wedding text - monsters

    Read and enjoy!

History was made this weekend with the first ever couple to get married on mxit. The marriage between Badboyzn and MrsBadboyzn formerly known as Sexygirlzn took place at Durban12. It was a small affair, only seven per room, with some quite famous handles invited for the wedding. Amongst the guests where:

    BadBoy4lifezn
    Badgirl-zn
    |34D|30Y-zn
    and R()T!(H!C|{

The affair was not your usual glamorous wedding, simply incorporating their love for mxit and each other. The bride as is seen with most Indian weddings logged on half an hour later than planned after which the ceremony started. Drama ensued when badboyzn left the room without a “brb” during the all important “I do”. Rumours ran wild that the groom had second thoughts and could not go through with the ceremony, some saying the lack of picture swopping being the main reason. Luckily for Sexygirlzn, Badboyzn was not about to leave his allegedly beautiful bride at the alter, logging back just minutes later claiming he DC’ed.

Shortly after the ceremony the throwing of the (f) commenced with R()T!(H!C|{ catching the bouquet, much to the chagrin of |34D|30Y-zn who just invited her to go private.

As the newly married couple prepared to leave for their honeymoon Almost News was allowed a few questions. On there first meeting, it was agreed that it was love at first sentence, “He had me at asl, it was da way he sed it dat really stood out from the rest, n wen he askd me to go pvt after dat, I just knew he was da 1”. When questioned on destination, they replied in unison “JHB 23”. MrsBadboyzn then added “ We herd frm a lot of our fwends dat JHB 23 has lot of fwendwy ppl n we both hope to make lot of nu contacts.”

Freshly Ground on MXit Celeb Chat 29 Oct 2007 12:16 PM (17 years ago)

Freshly mixed – Freshlyground goes live on MXit

    Issued by: MXit

Instant messaging service MXit will offer South Africans an opportunity to chat directly with members of MTV European Awards favourite Freshlyground, in two 45 minute sessions on Tuesday 30th October at 4pm.

    Freshly Ground Band Members

Last month local band Freshlyground released their latest album Ma’Cheri featuring their single “Potbelly” as a chart topper on 5FM’s World Chart show hosted by Nicole Fox.

We will be chatting about our inspiration for Ma’Cheri and Potbelly’s lyrics ‘fat thighs, flabby arms and pot belly’ – something everyone is curious about!” says Zolani Mahola, Freshlyground’s lead vocalist. “We will also chat about our upcoming nationwide tour due to start on the 2nd of November in Cape Town and, on a more serious side, our experience with social networking online.

Celebrity Chat is a fun way for fans to get in touch directly with their favourite stars while at the same time experience the need to chat safely online. Chat room usage and instant messaging (IM) is a popular means for people to meet and stay in touch. With this there is a need to maintain responsible use: not disclose your personal details, avoid profanity and not meet online contacts in real life. We believe Freshlyground would be best to chat about this, based on their personal experience using messaging as a way to stay in touch”, says Paul Stemmet, general manager of MXit Lifestyle.

Now five years old Freshlyground is a seven member band of Mozambican, Zimbabwean and South African origins, with music that is a fusion of African flavour and classical percussion. Not defined by one genre, Freshlyground’s music combines elements of Folk, Afropop, Jazz and Indie Rock. Critics have described Freshlyground as “passionate” and “red hot” with “an honesty and depth in their lyrics”.

Music and technology go hand-in-hand today and most youths see services such as MXit as their social lifeblood, so it’s a fantastic and direct route to our fans”, says Mahola.

Based on MXit’s need to offer their 5,3 million users a safer and moderated chat facility, Dynamic Chat Zones were introduced earlier this year. “Even with these features there remains a need to keep our safety messages fresh and MXit users are constantly reminded to never share personal information and to not meet online friends in real life”, says Stemmet.

This fourth Celebrity Chat session coincides with the recent addition of three new languages available on MXit – Xhosa, isiZulu and Afrikaans. Between the band members Zolani, Simon, Peter, Kyla, “Gugs”, Josh and Aron all the main local languages are all covered and users can chat in their language of choice.

To join the Freshlyground chat download the latest version of MXit by visiting www.mxit.co.za/wap. Follow the step-by-step registration guide and add ‘celebritychat’ as a contact from Tradepost and look out for the ‘Freshlyground Chat room’.

    MXit in your multi-language 22 Oct 2007 4:43 AM (17 years ago)

MXit is available in many languages since Version 5.2!

This will help if someone isn’t familiar with English language words on their mobile and are struggling to get MXit to chat with!
Afrikaans, Zulu and Xhosa are three other official languages spoken in South Africa, the country of creation of MXit.

I agree with the statements that the market for Xhosa and Zulu speakers is quite big in South Africa, as I experience a lot of feedback on my mobile wap site (wap.defza.com) from native South African language speakers! And it’s quite an exciting new market.

Check out this for a quick language primer 😉
At a time when MXit has reached 5.4 million users, there’s still much more potential left in the company from South Africa. At a solid 10-12K new registrations per day.

Visit www.mxit.com/wap to get MXit in your language now!

    MultiMX – new in MXit V5.3 9 Oct 2007 8:46 AM (17 years ago)

MXit version 5.3 is coming soon to a phone near you 😉
    MXit logo

    What’s new in V5.3?

    Some info on MultiMX

    1. The room is temporary (gets deleted after you logout)
    2. Can only invite people from your contact list (roster) that are online.
    3. Only the creator of the room can invite people to join.

All phones can join in a MultiMx chat session! (but just a few can’t create/invite)

    Group broadcast (multi send)

This has been free since MXit V5.2.
In other words, are you tired of typing the same thing to all your contacts? MXit allows you to send the same message to everyone in a “group” in MXit. (Menu -> Contacts -> Add/Move to group)

Here’s what groups look like in MXit – groups really help to organize your contacts:
(TIP: Your most popular/spoken to contact can be left groupless so that it’s always on top)
MXit contact groups screenshot main menu
So you choose the group name and press GroupBroadcast Write and it will send the message to up to 10 contacts in that group!

    MultiMX simplified

Basically if you want to chat to more than one of your contacts/friends at a time and you can all talk together at the same time and see what everyone is saying (chat room like), MultiMX will help!
It is aimed at being a quick, spur of the moment conversation between a couple of people.

    – If you log out or deletes the contact, that counts as leaving the MultiMx.
    – Google Talk or MSN Messenger contacts cannot be part of a MultiMx yet, this feature will still be added.

Also, check out “Tradepost” on MXit for more chat rooms where you can chat to more than just your friends list! Tradepost chat rooms work on any phone and you can invite anyone to join your chats!

MXit V 5.3 will also have some new bug fixes!
