Whereas the 2nd Amendment recognizes the right of the people to keep and bear arms, and whereas the right to keep and bear arms need not be demonstrated, and whereas Adam Kokesh's planned armed march into Washington DC is an unnecessary and dangerous provocation that may be used to demonize guns and gun owners, the undersigned petitioners, while supporting the right to keep and bear arms, state their opposition to Adam Kokesh's planned armed march into Washington DC on July 4th, 2013.

Kokesh's planned armed march into DC gives the government an opportunity to use agents provocateurs to cause an armed confrontation with the DC police and possibly the military, giving Obama the chance to declare a national emergency and suspend the Second Amendment for us all. Nobody is calling on Kokesh to cancel his march. He and his followers can and will do what they want to do, which will cause that confrontation.

Adam Kokesh

My concern is that if Kokesh forces a confrontations (and the DC police are already saying they will meet the marchers at the DC city limits) and violence results (possibly caused by agents provocateurs infiltrated into the march), the US government will use that to claim all gun owners are violent and dangerous requiring emergency suspension of the Second Amendment and mandatory gun seizures. THE US GOVERNMENT AGENDA BEHIND KOKESH'S ARMED MARCHES (AND ALL THE SHILLS PUSHING IT) IS TO CREATE A TINY "REVOLUTION" THAT CAN BE BRUTALLY CRUSHED TO DETER A GENERAL UPRISING BY THE ENTIRE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT THEY COULD NOT HOP TO CONTROL.
The only way that we can undermine the potential government propaganda value of Kokesh's stunt is if a million gun-owners and Second Amendment supporters sign this petition to make it clear Adam Kokesh does not speak or act for the majority of American gun owners.

Will Putin Save The World From Israel?

Edited and presented with pictures, captions and additional comments by Lasha Darkmoon

NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT
No one provokes me with impunity
Shortly after Vladimir Putin was elected president of Russia in 2000, the murdered family of Tzar Nicholas was beatified. Until quite recently, the centers of Jewish power had hoped to preserve some idealized memories of the murderous Soviet system in the minds of the Russians, but it turned out to be a vain hope.

Because Bolshevism was formulated and executed by Jews, their power centers had retained fond hopes of being able some day to reconnect and reinstall some sort of Jewish lobby leverage in the Kremlin. These fond hopes were dashed by Vladimir Putin.

By the end of 2008, the Russians were expected to decide between two ideological systems: between Communism as represented by Stalin and his fanatical band of murderous Cheka Jews or the conservative and traditional values of old-fashioned Tzarism. Until quite recently, Stalin had remained slightly ahead of Tzar Nicholas II. “Then, however, the Tzar mysteriously pulled ahead.” (Die Welt, 17 July 2008, page 1)

After that, no further choice was necessary.

The Jewish Lobby was of course hoping that a Tzarist cult would never rise again. Given that the Tzar had been the great adversary of the Bolshevik Jews, the Jewish Lobby did all it could to blacken the reputation of the Tsars. Now however, the Russians again see in Tzar Nicholas II a kind of savior who, like Jesus Christ, had made an enemy of the Jews and had suffered martyrdom.

“CRUCIFY HIM! CRUCIFY HIM!” (Luke 23:21)
“HIS BLOOD BE ON US, AND ON OUR CHILDREN.” (Matthew, 27:25).

[LD:  Having read these significant and portentous words, Pope Paul VI decided to ignore them completely and repudiate 2000 years of Christian doctrine. On October 28, 1965, with the publication of Nostra Aetate (‘In Our Age’), the Holy Father exonerated the Jews completely from collective ethnic guilt for the killing of Jesus Christ, making the Catholic Church, in the opinion of many conservative Catholics, subservient to the synagogue.

It was not long after this theological volte-face by the Catholic Church that Jewish comedienne Sarah Silverman told the world what she thought of the Pope's historic U-turn: “I hope the Jews DID kill Christ! I’d fucking do it again — in a second!

In the same way that the Jews killed Jesus Christ and later tried to pin the blame on Pontius Pilate, they killed Tsar Nicholas II and his entire family and tried to pretend they had nothing to do with it. You will look in vain for any Jewish admission of guilt on this score, either in school history books or in the mainstream media.

Fortunately, we now know the identities of the six Jewish assassins who were involved in this historic crime. In overall charge of the operation was the Jew Sverdlov. He had five Jewish henchman — Yurovsky, Goloshchekin, Syromolotov, Safarov, Voikov — who not only took part in the actual murder of the family but are reported  to have sexually violated the Tsar’s four beautiful daughters, described here as “these pure, enchanting young girls."

The mass murder itself, as we now know from documentary evidence, was carried out on the executive orders of Lenin who was at least one-quarter Jewish — a fact that had hitherto been carefully concealed. Even Churchill had been bamboozled into believing that Lenin was a gentile.  —  LD]

Following on the heels of the organized collapse of the Soviet Union, the global Jewish Lobby was able to install Boris Yeltsin in the Kremlin. Once they had seized control of Russia’s natural resources, they believed they could rule forever, or at least as long as they were operating under the protection of the US military forces. Not only did they control the military bloodhound Amerika, which they could let loose against any country that became troublesome; they also controlled Russia, whose energy resources they wished to exploit so as to enslave the entire planet. Yeltsin deliberately allowed the Russian military forces to disintegrate. Rapidly.

In the early 1990s, the Arab media did a detailed investigation of Yeltsin, the degenerate drunkard whom the Jewish Lobby had installed as their puppet. Extraordinary new facts came to light. They discovered that Yeltsin was a crypto-Jew. His real name was actually Jelzman.
On 28 November 1992 the newspaper Al Arab, which is published in London, made the following announcement on its front page: “The name change was decided upon at the 20th Party Congress. Yeltsin is a Jew. Risselov, a member of the Volksunion, revealed that the family name of President Yeltsin was Jelzman, a German Jewish name. The 20th Party Congress then decided to change the family name of Boris Jelzman to Yeltsin. The reason given for this change was that the Russian people would be afraid of the name Jelzman since his grandfather Jelzman had murdered thousands of Russians under Beria.”

Amazing to think that this grandson of a Cheka Jew, who had helped to murder thousands of Russian Christians after the Bolshevik Revolution, should suddenly find himself as top dog of the Kremlin — a Jew pretending to be a gentile.

LD: Beria’s Jewish ethnicity remains in doubt. No mainstream historian has ever claimed that Beria—a child sex killer who buried children in his basement—was a Jew. If Beria were Jewish, this would certainly be kept under wraps.

Everything had seemed to be going well for the Lobby. Then, out of a clear blue sky, Vladimir Putin’s coup occurred.

He deposed the terrible Jelzman-Yeltsin. Today, Yeltsin’s Jewish background is openly discussed even in the establishment press, where as he is described as having “converted to Christianity”. For example, on page 1 of its issue of 17 July 2008, Die Welt refers to “Boris Yeltsin, the Communist who later converted to Christianity.”

When they brutally murdered the Tzar’s family in Yekaterinburg on the night of 17 July 1918 in the house of the engineer Ipatjev, the Bolsheviks unwittingly established “a cult that, 90 years later, is still as strong as ever.” (Die Welt, 17 July 2008, p. 1) This was true even though Jelzman did everything in his power to erase the memory of the Tzar from Russian consciousness. “Boris Yelzin even had the Ipatjev house demolished without being able to stop the growing fondness for the Tzar in Russia.” (Die Welt, 17 July 2008, page 1).

According to an eyewitness report of the massacre:

The Tzarina complained to [Jewish] Commandant Yurovski about the empty room in which they were held and she requested two chairs. Yurovski then had two chairs brought in, on which the Tzarina and her ill son Alexi sat down. Yurovski ordered the other family members to stand in two rows behind mother and son, then brought in the execution detail. Yurovski informed the Tzar that the government had ordered their execution and therefore, he was now going to shoot them. The Tzar said nothing except the words “Father, forgive them, for they know what they do”, as Jesus said on the Cross.

Then Commandant Yurovski shot him.  The other soldiers shot Nicholas as well, and he died immediately. Then the firing squad began shooting wildly to kill all the other members of the family. When the shooting was over, Alex and three of his sisters were still alive and lying wounded on the floor. The bullets that were fired at the girls seemed to have been deflected. The soldiers then began bayoneting the victims. However, the bayonets became stuck in the girls’ bodices. This was because, during internment in Alexander Palace, the children and lady-in-waiting, Anna Demidova, had sewed a large number of the family jewels and diamonds into a pillow and the girls’ bodices. On the evening they were murdered they were wearing these bodices, and in addition, Demidova attempted to deflect the bullets with the pillow. For this reason the execution lasted about 20 minutes until the last member of the family was dead.
After the murders, Yurovski attempted to erase all traces of the crime.” (See here)

The last of the Romanovs, Tsar Nicholas II and his family,
brutally murdered by the Jews

[LD: After the February Revolution of 1917, Nicholas II abdicated his throne and took refuge with his family in a house in Yekaterinburg. The Tzar, his wife, his son, his four daughters, his servants and family doctor were all killed in the same room by the Bolsheviks on the night of July 17, 1918. It has since been confirmed that Lenin ordered the clandestine killings from Moscow.

Veteran British journalist Robert Wilton explains in his cult classic, The Fall of the Romanovs, how the murder of the Tsar and his family was orchestrated entirely by Jews:

“The whole record of Bolshevism in Russia is indeliby impressed with the stamp of an alien invasion. The murder of the Tsar, deliberately planned by the Jew Sverdlov, and carried out by the Jews Goloshchekin, Syromolotov, Safarov, Voikov, and Yurovsky, is the act not of the Russian people, but of this hostile invader.”  Robert Wilton, The Fall of the Romanovs, p.148.  —  LD]

According to a report released by Archbishop Wikenti on 17 July 2008, around 40,000 persons took part in a religious procession from Yekaterinburg to an abandoned mineshaft some 18 kilometers distant. The bodies of Tzar Nicholas, his German wife Alexandra and their five children had been carried to that place after they had been shot by their Jewish murderers in the night of 17 July 1918 in Yekaterinburg.
In conjunction with the memorial service for the Romanovs, copies of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion — an alleged “forgery” setting out uncannily accurate plans and predictions for Jewish world domination — were offered for sale. Large numbers of printed pamphlets were distributed along with the Protocols. The printed materials were entitled “Why we hate the Jewish Mafia”. They posed the question “Is This Xenophobia or Self Defense?”

The student Ivan Kolsev, 20, who had wrapped himself in a Tzarist banner, expressed the opinion of many when he said “Democracy has no future — we are returning to monarchy!” On the banner was written “In honor of Russia: for Tzar and Fatherland.” [Agence France-Presse (AFP), 28 July 2008.]
The new Tzarist cult is more than a revolution, it is the rebirth of the Russian nation after all the suffering the Bolsheviks inflicted on it. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez expressed this view during his visit to Moscow at the end of July 2008: “Venezuela takes note of the rebirth of Russia with great and affectionate attention.” (Die Welt, 23 July 2008, p. 5)

President Medvedev then expressed sincere appreciation to President Chavez for his heartfelt interest. Since his first day as President of Russia, it has been Putin’s principal goal to enable Russia’s reawakening. He and his allies have always had a clear picture of the people who murdered the Romanovs along with 55 million other Russians.

It was always clear to Putin that the Jewish oligarchs — these unparalleled parasites — had one primary aim: to suck Russia dry and annihilate it for all time.

A Kremlin politician close to Putin was quoted as saying about the then most influential Jews: “Boris Beresovski and Vladimir Gussinski are like bacteria that establish themselves in diseased bodies, but then die when the bodies grow healthy again.” [Jewish Telegraph Agency (JTA), 2 April 2002.] This statement reminds us of a passage from Chapter 11 of Mein Kampf: “The Jew is and will remain the eternal parasite, a freeloader that, like a malignant bacterium, spreads rapidly whenever a growth medium is made available to it.”

Vladimir Gussinski was the head of the Jewish Central Committee in Russia as well as chairman of the Jewish World Congress. After fleeing Russia for refuge in Israel, he stated to the world press that in Russia, “a new state ideology against the West is to be feared… It has many anti-Jewish characteristics.” He called the then Russian president, Vladimir Putin, an “extreme anti Semite and secret admirer of Hitler.” (Spiegel, 25/2000, p. 180).

[LD: Gussinski is apparently unaware that the Zionists and Nazis had made a secret pact in World War II; nor does he seem to know or care that the same genocidal policies Hitler is accused of pursuing against the Jews are precisely the same murderous policies being applied right now by Israel against the Palestinian people. One must never forget this: that the Jews are engaged in systematic genocide, at this very moment, in Occupied Palestine.  — LD]

For the Russians, the Jews are guilty of having killed the emissaries of God when they murdered the Romanov family, since the family has now been beatified. “Just as they once crucified Jesus,” said a participant in the memorial services. “Nicholas and Alexandra were our father and mother. They were like Russia’s parents,” said one of the bystanders among the faithful. Another participant in the memorial mass expressed enthusiasm for the return of the Tzarism: “The Tzar is God’s chosen on Earth — we must have a Tzar!” (AFP 17 July 2008.)

Russian schools now teach that it was Jews who murdered the Tzar’s family. This is probably the reason why even Wikipedia has begun reporting that the murderers were Jews, a fact that could not be mentioned in former times. “On 4 July 1918, the Cheka took over guarding the Romanovs in Yekaterinburg. They were accompanied by Jakov Yurovski… Yurovski was a Jew.” (Wikipedia). Two additional Jewish assassins who joined the Yurovski murderers were Alexander Belobarodov and Filip Goloschtschokin.

Today the Russians weep when they think of that horrible crime.

Only Jews would have been capable of such a bloodthirsty crime,” stated a participant in the memorial mass in front of the Church of the Blood that was held in Yekaterinburg in 2008.

[LD: It must never be forgotten that the Jews, according to Russian author Solzhenitsyn, killed at least 66 million Russian Christians between 1917 and 1953 during Stalin’s reign of terror.

The same Jews now rule the Western world, both in America and Europe, from their seat in Israel. So we need to be very careful lest they start getting genocidal ideas again.

Next time it could be us.  — LD]

FLEET OF RUSSIAN WARSHIPS EN ROUTE TO SYRIA

[LD:  Israel has recently launched a devastating attack on Syria in breach of international law and with the full blessings of America. Russia has just moved part of its Pacific fleet into the Mediterranean, for the first time in decades, in an attempt to forestall any further attempts by the Israeli aggressors  to destabilize the Middle East.

Vladimir Putin is aware that if Israel is allowed to attack Syria again with impunity, it will sooner or later pluck up the courage to attack Iran, knowing that America will be forced to come to its rescue. Putin cannot allow this. It would be a sign of unforgivable weakness, leading to Russia's encirclement and final ruin.

Putin also knows that one lethal, nuclear-tipped missile aimed at Dimona would teach the Israelis a lesson they would never forget.

Putin needs to save the world from Israel.

We are all Russians now.  — LD]

why disinformation works — paul craig roberts 26 May 2013 2:02 AM (11 years ago)

Have you ever wondered how the government’s misinformation gains traction?

What I have noticed is that whenever a stunning episode occurs, such as 9/11 or the Boston Marathon bombing, most everyone whether on the right or left goes along with the government’s explanation, because they can hook their agenda to the government’s account.

The leftwing likes the official stories of Muslims creating terrorist mayhem in America, because it proves their blowback theory and satisfies them that the dispossessed and oppressed can fight back against imperialism.

The patriotic rightwing likes the official story, because it proves America is attacked for its goodness or because terrorists were allowed in by immigration authorities and nurtured by welfare, or because the government, which can’t do anything right, ignored plentiful warnings.

Whatever the government says, no matter how problematical, the official story gets its traction from its compatibility with existing predispositions and agendas.

In such a country, truth has no relevance. Only agendas are important.

A person can see this everywhere. I could write volumes illustrating how agenda-driven writers across the spectrum will support the most improbable government stories despite the absence of any evidence simply because the government’s line can be used to support their agendas.

For example, a conservative writer in the June issue of Chronicles uses the government’s story about the alleged Boston Marathon bombers, Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, to argue against immigration, amnesty for illegals, and political asylum for Muslims. He writes: “Even the most high-tech security systems imaginable will inevitably fail as they are overwhelmed by a flood of often hostile and dangerous immigrants.”

The writer accepts all of the improbable government statements as proof that the brothers were guilty. The wounded brother who was unable to respond to the boat owner who discovered him and had to be put on life support somehow managed to write a confession on the inside of the boat.

As soon as the authorities have the brother locked up in a hospital on life support, “unnamed officials” and “authorities who remain anonymous” are planting the story in the media that the suspect is signing written confessions of his guilt while on life support. No one has seen any of these written confessions. But we know that they exist, because the government and media say so.

The conservative writer knows that Dzhokhar is guilty because he is Muslim and a Chechen. Therefore, it does not occur to the writer to wonder about the agenda of the unnamed sources who are busy at work creating belief in the brothers’ guilt. This insures that no juror would dare vote for acquittal and have to explain it to family and friends. Innocent until proven guilty in a court has been thrown out the window. This should disturb the conservative writer, but doesn’t.

The conservative writer sees Chechen ethnicity as an indication of guilt even though the brothers grew up in the US as normal Americans, because Chechens are “engaged in anti-Russian jihad.” But Chechens have no reason for hostility against the US. As evidence indicates, Washington supports the Chechens in their conflict with Russia. By supporting Chechen terrorism, Washington violates all of the laws that it ruthlessly applies to compassionate Americans who give donations to Palestinian charities that Washington alleges are run by Hamas, a Washington-declared terrorist organization.

It doesn’t occur to the conservative writer that something is amiss when martial law

is established over one of America’s main cities and its metropolitan area, 10,000 heavily armed troops are put on the streets with tanks, and citizens are ordered out of their homes with their hands over their heads, all of this just to search for one wounded 19-year old suspect. Instead the writer blames the “surveillance state” on “the inevitable consequences of suicidal liberalism” which has embraced “the oldest sin in the world: rebellion against authority.” The writer is so pleased to use the government’s story line as a way of indulging the conservative’s romance with authority and striking a blow at liberalism that he does not notice that he has lined up against the Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence and rebelled against authority.

I could just as easily have used a left-wing writer to illustrate the point that improbable explanations are acceptable if they fit with predispositions and can be employed in behalf of an agenda.

Think about it. Do you not think that it is extraordinary that the only investigations we have of such events as 9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombing are private investigations, such as this investigation of the backpacks: http://whowhatwhy.com/2013/05/20/official-story-has-odd-wrinkles-a-pack-of-questions-about-the-boston-bombing-backpacks/

There was no investigation of 9/11. Indeed, the White House resisted any inquiry at all for one year despite the insistent demands from the 9/11 families. NIST did not investigate anything. NIST simply constructed a computer model that was consistent with the government’s story. The 9/11 Commission simply sat and listened to the government’s explanation and wrote it down. These are not investigations.

The only investigations have come from a physicist who proved that WTC 7 came down at free fall and was thus the result of controlled demolition, from a team of scientists who examined dust from the WTC towers and found nano-thermite, from high-rise architects and structural engineers with decades of experience, and from first responders and firefighters who were in the towers and experienced explosions throughout the towers, even in the sub-basements.

We have reached the point where evidence is no longer required. The government’s statements suffice. Only conspiracy kooks produce real evidence.

In America, government statements have a unique authority. This authority comes from the white hat that the US wore in World War II and in the subsequent Cold War. It was easy to demonize Nazi Germany, Soviet Communism and Maoist China. Even today when Russian publications interview me about the perilous state of civil liberty in the US and Washington’s endless illegal military attacks abroad, I sometimes receive reports that some Russians believe that it was an impostor who was interviewed, not the real Paul Craig Roberts. There are Russians who believe that it was President Reagan who brought freedom to Russia, and as I served in the Reagan administration these Russians associate me with their vision of America as a light unto the world. Some Russians actually believe that Washington’s wars are truly wars of liberation.

The same illusions reign among Chinese dissidents. Chen Guangcheng is the Chinese dissident who sought refuge in the US Embassy in China. Recently he was interviewed by the BBC World Service. Chen Guangcheng believes that the US protects human rights while China suppresses human rights. He complained to the BBC that in China police can arrest citizens and detain them for as long as six months without accounting for their detainment. He thought that the US and UK should publicly protest this violation of due process, a human right. Apparently, Chen Guangcheng is unaware that US citizens are subject to indefinite detention without due process and even to assassination without due process.

The Chinese government allowed Chen Guangcheng safe passage to leave China and live in the US. Chen Guangcheng is so dazzled by his illusions of America as a human rights beacon that it has never occurred to him that the oppressive, human rights-violating Chinese government gave him safe passage, but that Julian Assange, after being given political asylum by Ecuador is still confined to the Ecuadoran embassy in London, because Washington will not allow its UK puppet state to permit his safe passage to Ecuador.

Perhaps Chen Guangcheng and the Chinese and Russian dissidents who are so enamored of the US could gain some needed perspective if they were to read US soldier Terry Holdbrooks’ book about the treatment given to the Guantanamo prisoners. Holdbrooks was there on the scene, part of the process, and this is what he told RT: “The torture and information extraction methods that we used certainly created a great deal of doubt and questions in my mind to whether or not this was my America. But when I thought about what we were doing there and how we go about doing it, it did not seem like the America I signed up to defend. It did not seem like the America I grew up in. And that in itself was a very disillusioning experience.” http://rt.com/news/guantanamo-guard-islam-torture-608/

In a May 17 Wall Street Journal.com article, Peggy Noonan wrote that President Obama has lost his patina of high-mindedness. What did Obama do that brought this loss upon himself? Is it because he sits in the Oval Office approving lists of US citizens to be assassinated without due process of law? Is it because he detains US citizens indefinitely in violation of habeas corpus? Is it because he has kept open the torture prison at Guantanamo? Is it because he continued the war that the neoconservatives started, despite his promise to end it, and started new wars?

Is it because he attacks with drones people in their homes, medical centers, and work places in countries with which the US is not at war? Is it because his corrupt administration spies on American citizens without warrants and without cause?

No. It is none of these reasons. In Noonan’s view these are not offenses for which presidents, even Democratic ones, lose their high-minded patina. Obama can no longer be trusted, because the IRS hassled some conservative political activists.

Noonan is a Republican, and what Obama did wrong was to use the IRS against some Republicans. Apparently, it has not occurred to Noonan that if Obama–or any president–can use the IRS against opponents, he can use Homeland Security and the police state against them. He can use indefinite detention against them. He can use drones against them.

All of these are much more drastic measures. Why isn’t Peggy Noonan concerned?

Because she thinks these measures will only be used against terrorists, just as the IRS is only supposed to be used against tax evaders.

When a public and the commentators who inform it accept the collapse of the Constitution’s authority and the demise of their civil liberties, to complain about the IRS is pointless.

obama: defending the indefensible 25 May 2013 8:56 AM (11 years ago)

Anthony Freda Art

Stephen Lendman

Activist Post

His doublespeak duplicity reflects the last refuge of a scoundrel. He's the worst in recent memory. Perhaps the worst ever. Forked tongue rhetoric can't disguise it.

Throughout his tenure, he governed lawlessly. He's done so at home and abroad. He spurns rule of law principles and other democratic values.

Nothing suggests change. Business as usual continues. War on humanity is policy. Rogue leaders govern that way. Obama threatens everyone.

On May 23, he spoke at Washington's National Defense University. He defended what he urged changing four years earlier. More on his Thursday address below.

On May 21, 2009, he spoke at the National Archives. He addressed national security. He said America can't be safe "unless we enlist the power of our most fundamental values."
The documents that we hold in this very hall - the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights - these are not simply words written into aging parchment.
They are the foundation of liberty and justice in this country, and a light that shines for all who seek freedom, fairness, equality, and dignity around the world.
(O)ur government made a series of hasty decisions.
(O)ur government trimmed facts and evidence to fit ideological predispositions.
(W)e set (aside fundamental) principles as luxuries that we could no longer afford.
In other words, we went off course. (Americans) called for a new approach - one that rejected torture and one that recognized the imperative of closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay.

We must act, he said, "with an abiding confidence in the rule of law and due process; in checks and balances and accountability."
(D)ecisions that were made over the last eight years established an ad hoc legal approach.
He called doing so "neither effective nor sustainable."

He pledged change. He said he took steps to prohibit torture. He ordered Guantanamo closed, he claimed.

He made other high-minded promises. He "swore an oath to uphold the Constitution," he said. He systematically spurned it. He did so across the board. He represents the worst of rogue leadership.

His Thursday address reflected same old, same old. It was beginning-to-end demagogic boilerplate. We've heard it throughout his tenure. He repeats it ad nauseam.

Promises made are broken. Defending the indefensible doesn't wash. CODEPINK Women for Peace co-founder Medea Benjamin challenged him.

She interrupted his speech. She did so several times. She called on him to close Guantanamo, release cleared detainees, and stop killer drone attacks.

"Will you apologize for the thousands of Muslims that you killed," she asked? "Will you compensate the families of innocent victims?"
Can you tell the Muslims that their lives are as precious as our lives?
Can you take the drones out of the hands of the CIA?
Can you stop (drone) strikes that are killing people on the basis of suspicious activity?
You are commander in chief! You can close Guantanamo today! You can release all cleared detainees.
It's been 11 years. Abide by the rule of law. You're a constitutional lawyer.
Speaking truth to power has a price. Benjamin was forcibly removed. She was detained. She was interrogated by Secret Service, military and FBI personnel. She was then released.

Asked why she challenged Obama, she said:
We have been so disappointed with Obama. We expected him to to make serious changes like taking drones out of the hands of the CIA, stopping the signature strikes, apologizing to innocents who have been killed, families of the innocent, and announcing that he, as Commander-in-Chief, would close Guantanamo, so when he did not I felt compelled to speak out.
Obama defended drone strikes. He did so disingenuously. Extrajudicial killing is lawless. Weasel words fell short of explaining his failure to close Guantanamo. What he said didn't wash.

He lied. He blamed Congress for his own transgression. He bears full responsibility. He can close Guantanamo today. He can do so with a stroke of his pen.

As president and commander in chief, he's fully authorized to do so. Congress has no say. He can order all uncharged prisoners released. Indefinite detention is lawless.

He claimed a nonexistent terror threat. The only ones are those he and complicit allies invent. They've done so throughout his tenure. They continued what Bush officials began.

In 2009, Obama promised change. He spurned what he pledged to uphold. He did what core supporters thought impossible. He exceeded the worst of his predecessor.

He turned truth on its head. He claimed extrajudicial murder is legal. On 9/11, America was attacked, he said. Doing so was state-sponsored terrorism. Bin Laden and Al Qaeda were wrongfully blamed.

Days later Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) was introduced. Congress passed it near unanimously. Bush signed it into law. America's "war on terror" began.

Police state laws were enacted. Multiple direct and proxy wars were launched. They're lawless. They target humanity. They remain ongoing. Obama continues what he promised to stop.

Rule of law principles don't matter. Diktat authority is policy. Obama's weasel words belie his actions. His promises aren't worth the paper they're written on. He broke every major one made.

Nothing ahead suggests change. Straightaway in office he promised Guantanamo closure. Nothing whatever's been done to do so.

Innocent victims remain imprisoned. Indefinite detention is policy. So are lawless military commissions. America maintains a global gulag. Extraordinary renditions fill it. Torture continues.

Drone killing is prioritized. More of the same is planned. No one's secure anywhere. US citizens are vulnerable. Summary judgment is policy. Attacks can occur anywhere. US soil is unsafe. There's no place to hide.

Secrecy prevents public disclosure. Promised transparency's nonexistent. What's most important continues out of sight and mind. Media scoundrels suppress what demands highlighting.

Obama reflects the worst of rogue leadership. War on terror policy continues. It does so when no threat exists. It's lawless and unconscionable.

Obama's heading America for full-blown tyranny and ruin. He threatens humanity. Doublespeak duplicity reflects it. His speech didn't surprise. Same old, same old remains policy. Nothing he said suggests otherwise.

Following his address, the Center for Constitutional Rights responded as follows:
(U)nless (Obama) takes immediate steps to resume transfers and ultimately close (Guantanamo), his administration will not escape the 'harsh judgment' of history.
www.OffgridOutpost.comLifting the ban on Yemeni transfers fell short. So far it's rhetoric, not policy. "(W)e are disappointed by (Obama's) comment that cleared men will only be released 'to the greatest extent possible.' "

Obama's "equivocation is troubling. After eleven years of detention without charge or trial, all of the men President Obama does not intend to give fair trials should be released and reunited with their families."
Anything short of that threatens to worsen a potentially deadly crisis unfolding at Guantanamo.
Targeted drone strikes remain policy. Reasserting the right is "legally flawed and dangerous."

Whether or not the United States can use lethal force under the laws of war is not a matter of policy preference - it is a matter of law and facts.

Continuing current policy in any forms "sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations and other countries."

Hundreds of activists endorsed a New York Times ad. It called on Obama to "Close Guantanamo Now" and "stop the torture."
Presidents cannot be allowed to arrogate to themselves the power of judge, jury and executioner.
Fundamental civil liberties have been eviscerated.
It is up to the people to stand up for principle and morality when their institutions and public officials refuse to do so.
End the War Crimes and Violations of Fundamental Rights!
Nothing Obama said suggests change. Business as usual remains policy. War on humanity continues. No end in sight appears likely.

New world order harshness threatens everyone. It's a clear and present danger. It's much too great to ignore.

america and israel’s real concerns about iran’s nuclear activities 22 May 2013 8:48 PM (11 years ago)

Flynt Leverett and Hillary Mann Leverett

Posted on May 22nd, 2013

Kenneth Waltz, who was for decades a professor of political science at the University of California at Berkeley and is widely acknowledged as one of the most important modern theorists of international relations, died last week.  Neither of us ever studied at Berkeley, but anyone who studied international relations in the West (or in many non-Western venues) during the past half century was at least indirectly a student of Waltz.

There are a growing number of tributes to Waltz, by his students (see, for example, Steve Walt’s remembrance, here) and by others (see, for example, here).  We want to focus on Waltz’s relatively recent role in the American/Western debate on how to deal with Iran’s nuclear program.
Of course, the Islamic Republic denies that it is pursuing or wishes to obtain nuclear weapons, and even U.S. and Israeli intelligence agencies acknowledge that the Islamic Republic is not currently trying to build them.  Nevertheless, most Western discussion simply assumes that nuclear weapons are the ultimate goal of Iran’s nuclear program—and that Iran’s acquisition of such weapons would further “destabilize” the Middle East.

In “Why Iran Should Get the Bomb,” published last year in Foreign Affairs, Waltz stood this discussion on its head.  Reviving an argument he first laid out over thirty years ago, Waltz posited that nuclear deterrence between competitive or even antagonistic states (think the United States and Soviet Union during the Cold War) is uniquely stabilizing.  In his view, power that is unbalanced by countervailing power is the ultimate source of instability in international affairs, and nuclear deterrence is a very effective form of balancing.  Updating this assessment for the present-day Middle East, in his July/August 2012 Foreign Affairs article Waltz wrote that what is truly destabilizing for the region is unchecked Israeli power, especially Israel’s nuclear weapons monopoly.  From this perspective, he argued that Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons would actually enhance strategic stability in the Middle East.

Unlike Waltz, we do not assume that the Islamic Republic is trying to develop nuclear weapons—nor do we believe that Tehran should do so.  In our book, Going to Tehran, and in other venues, we put forward an alternative reading of the purposes of Iran’s nuclear program—a reading much more congruent with the way in which the program has actually been conducted, with strategic and religious debate in the Islamic Republic, and with Iranian public opinion.  We think, however, that Waltz’s argument highlights important aspects of what’s wrong with American and Western debate about the Islamic Republic’s nuclear activities.

Much of the negative reaction to Waltz’s Foreign Affairs article has focused on the Islamic Republic’s alleged “irrationality.”  To work, deterrence requires instrumental, cost-benefit-calculating rationality.  The “mad mullahs” who run the Islamic Republic, it is held, hardly meet this standard.  No less than Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed this view, telling NBC’s Meet the Press in September 2012,

“I think Iran is very different.  They put their zealotry above their survival.  They have suicide bombers all over the place.  I wouldn’t rely on their rationality…Since the advent of nuclear weapons, you had countries that had access to nuclear weapons who always made a careful calculation of cost and benefit.  But Iran is guided by a leadership with an unbelievable fanaticism.  It’s the same fanaticism that you see storming your embassies today.”

Building on this polemical characterization, Netanyahu in the same interview directly attacked Waltz and his argument:
“You want these fanatics to have nuclear weapons?  I mean, I’ve heard some people suggest, David, I actually I read this in the American press.  They said, well, you know, if you take action, that’s a lot worse than having Iran with nuclear weapons.  Some have even said that Iran with nuclear weapons would stabilize the Middle East—stabilize the Middle East.  I think the people who say this have set a new standard for human stupidity.”

But even senior Israeli national security officials acknowledge that Netanyahu’s polemical characterization of Iranian decision-making is a caricature.  As former Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said in 2010, “I don’t think the Iranians, even if they got the bomb, [would] drop it in the neighborhood.  They fully understand what might follow.  They are radical but not totally crazy.  They have a quite sophisticated decision-making process, and they understand reality.”
What, then, are the real reasons for the strongly negative reactions among American elites to Waltz’s argument?  In his remarks at our event at MIT last week, Noam Chomsky goes to the heart of this question.  Commenting on the regular briefings that U.S. intelligence agencies and the Pentagon provide to Congress, Prof. Chomsky noted,

“Of course, they talk about Iran as ‘the Iranian threat.’  And they point out that the threat is not military.  Iran has very low military spending, even by the standards of the region (of course, miniscule as compared to the United States).  It has a strategic doctrine, which is defensive, designed to deter invasion long enough for diplomacy to set in.  And they say that, if Iran is developing nuclear weapons—for which they have no evidence, but if it is—it would be part of their deterrent strategy.
And that’s crucial.  The U.S. cannot tolerate a deterrent strategyIsrael, incidentally, is exactly the same.  You read a couple of weeks ago that Israel bombed military sites in Syria.  And the reason that was presented was because they might help a deterrent to an Israeli attack on Lebanon—namely that they might go to the only force that deters an attack:  Hizballah.

States—which are technically called ‘rogue states’—that believe they have the right to use force freely everywhere cannot tolerate deterrence, for obvious reasons.  That’s what the threat is.”
Prof. Chomsky’s explanation why the United States and Israel cannot tolerate deterrent strategies on the part of other Middle Eastern players is critical.  As we have written before, this is why the United States and Israel portray purely defensive prospective military preparations by the Islamic Republic—such as the acquisition of more sophisticated air defense systems—as somehow “threatening.”  It also highlights the real reason for American and Israeli concern over Iran’s nuclear activities—that an Iran with even a latent, theoretical capacity to develop a nuclear deterrent would rein in the ability of the United States and Israel to use force freely anywhere they want in the Middle East.

Those realities should prompt everyone to reconsider just what are the real threats to strategic stability in the region.

america is becoming a closed society 22 May 2013 8:33 PM (11 years ago)

May 22, 2013

by Saman Mohammadi

In a recent appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe show, Chuck Todd said that President Obama is criminalizing journalism.

There was a time when only "conspiracy theorists" talked like that. But something has changed in the public mood in America in the last couple of weeks. The flood of scandals rocking the Obama administration, some real, some buried, and some contrived, has changed attitudes about President Obama in the press.

Now, questioning the government is not ridiculed as conspiracy theorizing. Even mainstream journalists feel outraged at what the Obama administration is getting away with. But the AP scandal just scratches the surface. The integrity of the press was dismantled a long time ago.

So is the mainstream media's outrage too little too late?

America's slide to a closed society didn't happen overnight. Obama was given the keys to the prison, he didn't have to build it from scratch. The bars on the prison doors are closing faster as it reaches the bottom so they're more noticeable, but the trend towards hardcore totalitarianism has been visible for more than two decades. And, in fact, you can argue that America has been a relatively closed society for half a century, or, going back further, since the end of WWII.

What President Obama is doing to put pressure on journalists and whistleblowers is tame compared to what other authoritarian governments have done to destroy press freedom, such as Turkey, China, and Iran. But, America is getting there. The Obama administration could very well shut down the Internet in the near future, in an atmosphere of public anger, confusion, protest, and unrest. The president has that power.

Here is an excerpt from an article published in the Committee to Protect Journalists on December 11, 2012, called, "Journalists in prison reach record high: Turkey, Iran, and China among leading jailers":
The number of journalists imprisoned worldwide reached a record high this year, a trend driven primarily by terrorism and other anti-state charges levied against critical reporters and editors, according to a new report by the Committee to Protect Journalists.
America prides itself on being the global leader of democracies and the greatest challenger of totalitarian fascism, but this is not true. There is no sanctuary for liberty in the world today. All the centers of power embrace the basic principles of totalitarianism, treat the public as sheep, abuse the trust of citizens, and crush dissent in every possible way.

the new world order is unimpeachable 22 May 2013 8:23 PM (11 years ago)

Sinclair Lewis once wrote that if fascism ever comes to the United States it will be wrapped in the American flag and carrying a cross. Lewis might have been describing our contemporary “political Christians,” the mostly evangelicals who believe that Washington has a manifest destiny to make the world behave while simultaneously expunging the constitution of all those troubling un-Biblical bits that were pulled together into the Bill of Rights. Well, it hasn’t quite happened that way. The “Moral Majority” remains influential in the Republican Party, but it has been replaced by the “moral hypocrisy” crowd that came in with change we could believe in in 2008. Who would have thought that a Democrat preaching inclusion and talking to one’s enemies would have gone on to complete the job begun by George W. Bush in transforming our republic into a full blown national security state? Well, someone should have thought of it if history is anything to go by. Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, promised peace when he was elected in 1916 even as he was conniving to enter the First World War. Franklin D. Roosevelt, another Democrat, ran on a platform asserting that he had kept the nation out of war while he was colluding with Winston Churchill fight the Germans. The lesson that was apparently not learned well enough was to beware of politicians falsely proclaiming themselves to be peace candidates.
The Founding Fathers included impeachment in the constitution for a reason. Andrew Johnson was impeached for firing his Secretary of War, surviving the process by one vote. Richard Nixon would have been impeached because of Watergate and Bill Clinton might have suffered the same fate over perjury connected with his inability to keep his trousers on. As much as I would like to see George W. Bush in jail for starting a war of aggression, he is more likely to be indicted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes than he is to face any retribution in the United States as he is now out of office. But we still have Obama.
As suggested above, President Obama was elected in 2008 almost certainly because of the perception, in spite of significant warning signs, that he was the antiwar candidate. Relative to John McCain and Sarah Palin he certainly looked to be the better option. But instead of making the United States a more normal country again post 9/11 Obama has instead done much to expand and institutionalize the deplorable aspects of the insecure and paranoid state that he inherited. He is the only president known to have ordered the extrajudicial assassination of American citizens, he has greatly expanding the killing by drone program initiated by his predecessor, and he has far exceed the record of Bush in using the government secrets privilege to cover up official malfeasance and to block any attempt at redress or rollback through the judiciary.
More than that, as if that were not bad enough, he is also looking for innovative ways to expand the federal government’s power. The recent revelations about the White House using the tax system to punish critics and the secret investigation of the Associated Press news service to find leaks from among the ranks of Obama’s own administration should deeply disturb every American. Nixon, who had his enemies list, behaved similarly using the IRS and it was one of the issues that would have told against him if he had been impeached. Abusing a government agency that has its legitimacy derived from the impression that it operates impartially has devastating consequences as it completely undermines any sense that the citizen is being treated fairly. The Obama response that he did not know that the selective screening of non-profits was taking place is pathetic on several levels. First of all the “buck stops” at his desk in terms of what the government agencies under his control are doing and second, the IRS action reeks of politicization. The president has pretended to be angry and has vowed that there will be accountability for what has occurred, announcing that the acting chief of IRS has been forced to resign. He knows as well as anyone that there has been no accountability in the federal government since 9/11 and almost certainly before that. Those he is forced to fire will leave with their pensions intact and another job waiting, while the real scoundrels in the White House will walk, as they always do.
The Associated Press (AP) incident is equally disconcerting. If President Obama is concerned about leaks relating to his illegal drone program in Yemen he should look first at the self-serving and sycophantic barracudas that he has surrounded himself with. If his Attorney General Eric Holder decided that an investigation of the Associated Press was in order to control leaks of information that the White House would prefer the public not to be made aware of, he should have sought the information directly from AP before obtaining a “secret” subpoena and demanding the information from the phone company. Taking legal action against press sources is reminiscent of the actions of several authoritarian regimes that were active in the twentieth century and which are frequently cited for the horrors they inflicted on their people, it should be. If Obama were serious about accountability and not just doing damage control, the AP and IRS scandals together should have impelled him to fire Holder and to consider the possibility of himself resigning to avoid impeachment as Nixon did.
And there are plenty of other indications that we are witnessing a transformation of government, and not for the better, including a warning that the war on terror will go on for at least twenty more years and the president can take whatever military action he deems appropriate during that time period. Remember the Pentagon’s Total Information Awareness program in 2002 that was intended to compile detailed dossiers on every American? Well, its back only the FBI and White House are now calling it “total internet surveillance” in an attempt to forestall “going dark” on the information transmitted by new technologies. It will provide real time access to all the data that moves or is accessible through over the web, which is nearly everything these days. Combine that with the NSA capability to tap all phones all the time and there is not a whole lot of room for privacy left, which is precisely the intention. A small percentage of investigations that are actually carried out with respect to the fourth amendment ban on illegal searches go through the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), which always accepts the government argument that national security is involved and approves the search.
It would be hard to explain how the shenanigans engaged in by Bush and Obama have made us any safer. Perhaps something can be done before Obama sets up a FISC-like acquiescent drone court that will decide on the modalities for assassinating American citizens because they represent an “imminent threat.” Let’s face it, in the minds of many in Washington national security is perpetually at risk so there is always a completely plausible justification to zap someone. Even Senator Rand Paul seems to go along with the idea if one is detected exiting a liquor store, so it will likely be another bipartisan demonstration of how government vs. the people works. A secret court set up to do something that is manifestly illegal and unconstitutional will be a triumph for the current version of the New World Order originally envisioned by President George H. W. Bush in 1990. Always remember that the government knows best.

u.s. military grants itself the power to police the Streets 21 May 2013 11:35 PM (11 years ago)

May 22, 2013 by
(FOXNEWS)   According to an article published on Tuesday in the Long Island Press, the Pentagon has “has quietly granted itself the ability to police the streets without obtaining prior local or state consent, upending a precedent that has been in place for more than two centuries.” The story, by Jed Morey, refers to recent changes made by the Department of Defense to a U.S. Code titled “Defense Support of Civilian Law Enforcement Agencies.” The changes, Morey argues, are the latest in what he calls the “militarization of domestic law enforcement” and further blur the lines between police SWAT teams and the military.

These changes, which have attracted media little attention, bring with them the worrying potential for greater involvement by the U.S. military in domestic affairs.

The changes clarify the rule for the involvement of military forces in civilian law enforcement and establishes “DoD policy, assigns responsibilities, and provides procedures for DoD support to Federal, State, tribal, and local civilian law enforcement agencies, including responses to civil disturbances within the United States.” According to Morey, the most worrying part of the recent changes is the inclusion of vague-sounding language  which permits temporary military intervention in the event of “civil disturbances”:

“Federal military commanders have the authority, in extraordinary emergency circumstances where prior authorization by the President is impossible and duly constituted local authorities are unable to control the situation, to engage temporarily in activities that are necessary to quell large-scale, unexpected civil disturbances because:

(1) Such activities are necessary to prevent significant loss of life or wanton destruction of property and are necessary to restore governmental function and public order; or

(2) Duly constituted Federal, State, or local authorities are unable or decline to provide adequate protection for Federal property or Federal governmental functions.”

According to Morey, the military is currently “prohibited from intervening in domestic affairs except where provided under Article IV of the Constitution in cases of domestic violence that threaten the government of a state or the application of federal law.” Morey labels the recent changes as a “game-changer,” given that they undermine existing limits to military intervention in domestic
affairs. Bruce Afran, a civil liberties attorney and constitutional law professor at Rutgers University, is concerned about the lack of definition contained in the rule, including what constitutes “wanton destruction,” or under what circumstances prior authorization of the President would be considered “impossible.” ”These phrases don’t have any legal meaning,” he say. “It’s no different than the emergency powers clause in the Weimar constitution [of the German Reich]. It’s a grant of emergency power to the military to rule over parts of the country at their own discretion.”
Civil disturbances are defined in the regulation as “Group acts of violence and disorder prejudicial to public law and order.” While Morey quotes an unnamed defense official who claims that the authorization has existed for over 100 years and just has not been exercised before, legal experts are concerned by the changes.

Afran argues that the rule is “a wanton power grab by the military. It’s quite shocking actually,” he continues, “because it violates the long-standing presumption that the military is under civilian control.” Furthermore, he argues that the definition of civil disturbances is broad and vague enough that “all of the Vietnam protests would meet this description. We saw Kent State. This would legalize Kent State.” Eric Freedman, a constitutional law professor from Hofstra University, also labelled the rule ”an unauthorized power grab.”

Morey notes that although the outcomes of previous domestic military interventions in the U.S. have varied:

“…the protocol by which the president works cooperatively with state governments has remained the same. The president is only allowed to deploy troops to a state upon request of its governor. Even then, the military — specifically the National Guard — is there to provide support for local law enforcement and is prohibited from engaging in any activities that are outside of this scope, such as the power to arrest.”

Freedman points out that the “The Department of Defense does not have the authority to grant itself by regulation any more authority than Congress has granted it by statute.” Meanwhile, Morey argues that this is exactly what is has just done, and that it is not the first time the Department has attempted to expand its domestic authority.

So is this a unilateral power grab by the Pentagon that has potentially worrying implications for the future, or is it simply a necessary precaution in case of a legitimate emergency that domestic law enforcement is unable to handle?

rand paul: there’s going to have to be an independent investigation of “un-american” irs scandal 21 May 2013 3:30 PM (11 years ago)

Daniel Jackson

rand-paul
Speaking at a GOP fundraiser in the important election state of New Hampshire, Senator Rand Paul called for an independent investigation into the IRS targeting scandal that has lead many to further distrust the government.

During his speech he called the IRS targeting the Obama Administrations political enemies totally un-American.

“Any person who would use the power or abuse the power of government to go after their political opponents, I don’t care if you are a Republican or a Democrat or an independent, to take that brute force, that bullying force of government and to use it against your opponents, there is something distinctly and profoundly un-American about that,” Paul stated.

Not wanting to let the scandal simply be forgotten by the corporate media and American people alike, Paul made it clear that someone has to go to prison. He also joked about the three different scandals currently rocking the White House.

ABC News reported:
The Republican senator joked that the trio of scandals hitting the Obama administration — the IRS’s admitted targeting of tea party groups, increased criticism and outrage at the administration’s response to last year’s attack in Benghazi, Libya, and news of the Department of Justice’s seizure of phone records of the Associated Press, as well as spying on a Fox News reporter as part of a leak investigation — all reminded him of the children’s song “Old MacDonald.”
“Old MacDonald’s Farm of Scandals: here’s a scandal, there’ s a scandal, everywhere a scandal,” Paul said. “So it’s hard to know which scandal we want to talk about, but I think they all sort of stem from one problem and that’s the government has accumulated too much power, the president has accumulated too much power. Not just this president, but maybe the last 10 presidents, because we allowed that power to go from Congress to the presidency. We’ve allowed the presidency to become too strong.”
Paul said the revelations from the IRS scandal will create “such a level of distrust” that there is “going to have to be some kind of independent commission” to investigate.
“I don’t see any way the president can gain back trust, and for goodness sake, somebody’s got to get fired or go to prison,” Paul said to cheers.
Clearly the IRS targeting political opponents should be taken very seriously, with those involved going to prison and an independent investigation into where the orders came from and if there was any connection to the White House. (which at this point should be obvious)
Any Senator or Congressman who doesn’t support an independent investigation should be exposed as enemies of democracy in America, for if we let the IRS get away with this, the future police state will make American unrecognizable.

clients denied gold at major banks as shortage intensifies 20 May 2013 11:08 PM (11 years ago)

KingWorldNews.com

Tuesday, May 21, 2013
By Paul Martin

Greyerz:  “This week I want to talk about what we are seeing in the physical gold market, and why there is a disconnect in that market.  We transfer a lot of gold from Swiss banks and other banks into private vaults for investors.

More often now, than ever, we are encountering incidents when the banks are putting up all kinds of obstacles for these transfers.  The first sign of the potential shortage of physical gold started with ABN AMRO a few weeks (when they) declared that they would renege on their commitment to redeem gold accounts in physical gold....

“Instead they would redeem in cash.  The custodian for ABN AMRO, for the gold, is UBS, and UBS decides to what extent they hedge the ABN paper gold position.

So as there is no more physical redemption of the ABN AMRO gold accounts, it seems these contracts are no longer backed by physical gold.  It’s just backed by paper, and this is of course typical for the paper market, Eric.  This paper market, which is 100 times bigger than the physical market, probably has zero percent backing of physical.  This is why ABN stopped redeeming in gold.

Then, last week we had an investor being refused to take his physical gold out of a major Swiss bank.  They told him that the regulatory authority prevented the bank from giving the client his physical gold.  That is of course total nonsense, and eventually we helped the client to get his gold out of the bank.

Another of our clients was told by a major Swiss bank that he can only take out 100,000 Swiss francs of physical gold every six months.  They blamed money laundering and terrorist activity for this decision.  Yet another client was again told by a major Swiss bank that his storage fees would be going up substantially.  When he complained he was told that he should convert to paper gold.

And finally, Eric, another big bank, which has an ETF, told a client who wanted to transfer gold out it that he would have to wait at least two weeks for the transfer.  You just wonder why a major bank that is supposed to hold substantial amounts of physical gold needs two weeks of more to transfer gold to a client.

So all of this, Eric, points to the fact that there is a major shortage of physical gold in the banks.  These banks obviously don’t want to lose customers, but their behavior and the reluctance to deliver also points to a real shortage in the physical market.

So the disconnect between the paper and the physical market (for gold) is continuing.  Refiners still have major production delays and demand continues to be very high, ‘No matter how much they produce,’ as one refiner told me today.  And premiums are still high also.”

FAILURE TO USE IT DESTROYED THE WORLD

Finely dressed wordsmiths who pretend to be the hippest, most intelligent, most popular, most thorough, most insightful writers on the planet are still sticking to the same program that got us into all this trouble in the first place. And the schizzed out public is marching right along with them, investigating every nook and cranny of sadistic corporate perfidy and still coming up with the wrong answer. Why is that? Why won't anybody name the perps? It's so obvious. How can everyone not know? And if they do know, why won't they say it?

Is it simply the corporate mindlock, as evidenced by Google and YouTube, where anybody who names the Jews and their worldwide crime syndicate is automatically filtered out by the kosher censors who own these so-called services? We've certainly seen plenty of evidence of this over the last decade, although it seems to be becoming more subtle, now that Jews themselves have pretty much taken over the opposition, so pseudo celebrities like Carl Bernstein can come right out and say it, and still people still don't pay attention to it because it causes them too much discomfort to have to reassess everything they've learned in their lives. Jews can occasionally be candid about Jews, whereas non Jews are not allowed to, which is, in fact, why the opposition has always been going nowhere fast.

When a Jew comes right out and says the neocon war machine is a strictly Jewish operation, as Watergate reporter Bernstein did, he's feted as a free speech hero, but when a non Jew says it (as many of us have been doing for years, if not decades), he's regarded as a conspiratorial nut bag and thrown into jail or financially ruined for life, if not something much worse.
Is it fear? Lots of people who had something important to say have wound up suddenly dead over the past few years. Decades. Centuries (remember Warren Harding?). Yet the Jew-S government can come right out and pretended it's not financing the overthrow of the nation of Syria (after not financing the overthrows of Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan etc.), and people nod their heads approvingly when mind controller Richard Falk goes to the Mideast to "assess the situation" and "try to restart the peace process", a contention that should induce widespread projectile vomiting, but instead people who should know Jewish scams better than this continue to take demonic vaudeville acts like this seriously.

It's almost as if the past is being evaporated right out of brains, sucked right out through our ears by the vacuum cleaner of television news, which never once in a hundred years has ever mentioned that the Jewish takeover of the world started 400 years ago when Cromwell let the Jews back into England to start a worldwide war machine that has never stopped killing since. They've also never mentioned that both World Wars and the takedown of the World Trade Center were accomplished by the Jews who control the United States.

Is it because of the indoctrination of a phony educational system that has been constructed by kosher perverts who teach middle school students the art of lesbian kissing and trumpet the exploits of the now-dead Seal Team 6 for murdering a man who had been dead for a dozen years? A Hollywood film on this theme actually won the best picture Oscar THIS YEAR. How's that for mass mind control? It makes you wonder what our children are going to do to us when they find out what we've been saying. If the poison vaccines don't get them, then the TV news surely will, but because of what they have been told to believe, they'll probably kill us first before they keel over prematurely.

Is it fear of violating hate crime laws, created by cynical proponents of the greatest hate crime of all time, which is the Jewish Talmud, an encyclopedia of perversion that commands the murder and robbery of all the non Jews of the world, lasciviously lusts after sex with children, and teaches its adherents how to lie about everything and then defends the practice with its annual Kol Nidre oath, making it a sacred act to lie about the crimes they commit. Notice how none of those ever charged with hate crimes are the New York newspapers detailing how insane the Muslims are, or slick perverted Jewish artists laughing about how stupid the Christians are for protesting images of their messiah being immersed in a jar of urine.

These are heinous hate crimes, but the Jews are never charged with them because Jews wrote the laws and Jews control the courts.

When Jews do it, it's legitimate social criticism; when non Jews do it, it's a hate crime.
As wily Jews infiltrate the principled groups that oppose them, they offer up all sorts of synonyms to camouflage themselves from responsibility for their crimes. The most popular of these nicknames are Communists and Zionists, but no Jew can ever explain why all these same crimes committed prior to the invention of these words are the same as the crimes they are committing now.

So why can't people who know the score safely use the word Jew in a critical sense in public?
Is is patriotism? Certainly not. Because of the Patriot Act, actual patriotism has now been classified as a subversive activity, subject to indefinite detention, false charges and the confiscation of all your property. The current definition of patriotism, according to every member of the U.S. Congress, is that it is a treasonable offense. Yes, in case you hadn't noticed, reality HAS been flipped on its head.
Is it poisoned food, fluoride sedation, radiation deterioration and television comedies that tell you they're funny though they're not.

Or is it simply a case of wanting to keep your job, because all the jobs in America, at some level, are owned by Jews?

People haven't realized yet that there aren't any jobs anymore, or least none in which you can save your soul and maintain your employment.

Doctors going bankrupt, teachers committing suicide, unemployed garbagemen from the ghettos getting large sums of money for testifying that, yes! they saw that man plant a bomb along the parade route. And that man, which could be you, never saw it coming, although he did get interviewed by the feds in the recent past, and because he was a loyal citizen, he of course agreed to help them out if called upon.

After all, there IS one occupation that is growing in America, and the U.S. government has lots of openings for it. That job is corpses — utilized in one of an infinite number of public relations stunts, which are the false flag mass murder massacres to further some devious objective to take away what few remaining rights we have left. You can either be a collateral damage deceased bystander, or a suddenly famous psycho assassin without ever having to know how to use a gun or a bomb.
It's horrifying to see people read the newspapers these days, at least those who can still read. They go right to the help wanted section, then to the commercial flyers, and only as they get ready to throw it in the trash to they happen to notice an actual news story or two. And their reaction is always the same — nothing we can do about that; that's the way things work; might as well forget about since there's nothing we can do about it. Shoot, Qaddafi probably deserved to die that way since Obama said he was such a bad guy. This is the way Americans are these days. Totally brain dead and physically dying.

Most people get their news these days from YouTubes created by people with coded names, or directly from TV commercials, tailored to tweak their inner compulsions. You can see in the deliberately grubby men and pustulish painted women with guns, all looking to make a big score with no thought of tomorrow's testosterone tragedies. What counts is the wallpaper, and the lamps, and the computer games, and maybe the blowup pool in the backyard.

It has been frequently said that the future will consist of only prisoners and guards, but usually they forget to mention witnesses, who are hired for any occasion and then disposed of when the objective is achieved. This is the fate of all U.S. military personnel, who are now prevented from owning guns because they followed those homicidal orders and accepted those poisoned vaccines so they are obviously insane and therefore should not be allowed to own guns.

They are going to be among the occupants of all these new prisons and concentration  camps that have been built to house — and process! — those who simply won't go along with the plan, who won't get with the program. These facilities have no bathrooms, no kitchens, no beds and no chairs. You, then, tell me what the program is.

All of this has happened because all those finely dressed wordsmiths who are so proud of their media exposure and their highly hyped reputations have consistently and universally failed to use the magic word, the word that most accurately describes the nearly invisible force that is poised, after centuries of assiduous planning, to completely destroy society as we know it and the world as we hoped it would be.

And even at this late date, you still demur; you still refrain from using the word that will be the cause of death of everything you know and love. Perhaps you will wait until you can no longer utter an honest protest, or even think an honest thought. If you're lucky, that time will come in the camps, if you make it that far.

Do you plan on making your big protest when it is clear to you that you will never have another bite of food to eat, never have another dollar in your pocket, or never have another moment of comfortable sleep? What do you think your protest will accomplish then? Surely, it will be much less effective that what it can accomplish now.

Remember, all of this has happened because you failed to use the magic word, and configured your plans to erase that word from the memory of man.

But because you didn't — because you didn't want to hamper your career prospects, or offend your neighbors, or violate your religious rules — the certainty now is that you and your loved ones are the "useless eaters" who are about to be erased.

charles hugh-smith: the decline of self-employment and small business 2 May 2013 2:05 PM (11 years ago)

April 22nd, 2013
6 1 0 0 10
Small business is the incubator of employment. As it declines, so too do opportunities for first jobs, second chances and economic independence.
Self-employment and small business are two sides of a single economic coin: financial independence. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) counts two types of self-employed, the unincorporated and the incorporated. The unincorporated may have employees, but typically do not, i.e. they are sole proprietors. The incorporated have employees, starting with the owner, as the BLS counts the incorporated self-employed as employees of their own corporation.
I know that’s confusing, but it’s important to separate the sole proprietors from those “self-employed” incorporated businesses that have employees: law firms, doctors’ offices, accountants, etc.
When we speak of “small business,” we’re referring in large part to the incorporated self-employed: people who establish corporations as the legal structure for their enterprise.
Nothing is simple when it comes to parsing all the data, of course, but the BLS has a paper that explains the basic categories: Self-employment in the United States (Bureau of Labor Statistics).
The BLS attributes the decline in unincorporated self-employment from 1950 to 1970 to the consolidation of agriculture. As agriculture became more mechanized, small farms were no longer viable and farming required less labor. As a result, many self-employed farmers and laborers became employees or moved to other sectors.
The trajectory of self-employment from 1970 to the mid-2000s tracked general economic growth, which was weak in the 1970s but began a 30-year boom in the early 1980s.Things changed in the recession, as the self-employed ranks have lost 1.6 million from the peak in 2007. The number of self-employed has fallen to early 1980s levels: (All FRED charts courtesy of frequent contributor B.C.)
This chart displays the self-employed as a share of total non-farm employment. The first chart showed a strong rise in self-employment from 1970, but this chart shows that employment rose even faster: the self-employed share of all those employed has been declining for 30 years:
We can attribute this trend to the rise of global Corporate America and government employment. The workforce expanded, and relatively more people became employees of corporations or the government than became self-employed.
It’s important to note here that the BLS does not break down the income of unincorporated self-employed: if millions of self-employed saw their net incomes slashed in the recession, the BLS still counts them as self-employed. So a consultant who earned $100,000 prior to the recession and now scrambles to net $10,000 is still self-employed.
This is the statistical equivalent of 6 million people losing full-time jobs and then 4 million of those people getting part-time jobs. Did employment truly recover most of the losses?
This chart displays total non-farm employment (blue) and the incorporated self-employed. Unsurprisingly, the rise and decline of the incorporated self-employed tracks the general economy and total employment.

But once again we have to note the limitations of the data. As B.C. observed, some of the recent rise in incorporated self-employed is the result of tax policies favoring corporations; the newly incorporated may well not have any employees, i.e. they are simply sole proprietors who incorporated for the tax benefits:
Historically, in order for incorporated self-employment to grow, it requires an increasing share of the population that is inclined to, or capable of, first becoming unincorporated self-employed. A growing share of the incorporated self-employed since the ’00s are one-person S corporations (to take advantage of favorable tax treatment) or limited partnerships (LPs) and limited liability corporations (LLCs) in real estate for pass-through purposes that hire few, if any, employees.Consider that the US employment base is disproportionately dependent upon the viability of as few as 4% of the labor force and fewer than 2% of the population as the primary “job creators”, i.e., incorporated self-employed.
After a brief increase in 2012, the self-employed as a share of total employment is falling off a cliff:
United States’ new business formation rate continues dropping steadily
Spend some time walking through Silicon Valley or New York City, and you’ll likely leave under the impression that entrepreneurship is alive and well in the United States. But spend some time wading through some of the latest census data, and you may come away with a very different impression.
This trend is reflected in the decline of small business in general:
Although many analysts claim most employment growth now comes from corporations, once again we have to look beneath the surface and ask what kind of jobs are corporations creating? More part-time fast-food positions?
Small business plays two critically important and often unrecognized roles. One, it tends to give new workers their first employment experience. The corporate human resources departments are not so forgiving–have you had your third interview yet? Only two more to go….
Two, small business tends to train workers who are then able to move up the job ladder to better paying corporate jobs, having learned the ropes at a small business. If you talk to corporate insiders, they will admit (in private) that their own job training efforts are limited: it’s faster and more productive to poach your new hires from a competitor than invest years bringing up new talent.
Corporations may point to their intern program as “job training,” but this is all too often a PR facade for unpaid slave labor. How many interns learned anything remotely useful? How many end up with full-time jobs at the company? The typical answer is: very few.
Small business is the incubator of employment. As it declines, so too do opportunities for first jobs, second chances and economic independence.

will no due process be the norm using dzhokhar tsarnaev as an excuse? 19 Apr 2013 8:35 PM (12 years ago)

by The Watchdog

Posted on April 19, 2013
On April 19, 1775, the brave men who stood against the British forces at Lexington green and later Concord stood up to stop the abuses by King George III. One was due process of law. I wonder if all the people who lived in Boston during that colonial period are rolling over in their graves seeing how Massachusetts has become the very place they tried to flee from.

Since Monday, the Boston marathon bombing. The US Government has been caught colluding with the Boston Police and other outside assets staging a false flag attack. They were hoping to pin the blame on one of Obama’s Political enemies like to tea party and gun owners. When it was found out of  operatives around the blast areas before and after the attack.  Blaming people who love liberty fell flat. The media and the system went into a panic trying to save face. Next thing we know two Russian Brothers were now public enemy number one.

As it is reported now. one brother is dead and the other is wounded. I wonder how the authorities will treat this suspect. Will the Feds and the Boston PD manufacture evidence linking him to the bombing? Will there be a trial and discovery if he gets his day in court? I just hope it does not end like it did with David Koresh, and Chris Dorner where they were burned alive without a day in court.

I do not believe Dzhokhar Tsarnaev had anything to do with the bombing at the Boston marathon. He must have the right of due process under the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth amendments. I hope the Federal government has a much luck trying to convict Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as they did with Hutaree militia.  I pray to God this man does not go before a Kangaroo Court with a jury that is so incompetent they do not know about the law and due process, but knows what happens during the daytime soap operas. The government would love to have a jury in place to render the desired verdict of guilty. I hope Dzhokhar Tsarnaev gets an attorney who will vigorously put up a defense furthering discrediting the government’s case against him.

We are seeing the government try to save face after they have been caught in a false flag attack. The government will try to use this an excuse to bring a more cruel Police State and tyranny in America. Lets not let Dzhokhar Tsarnaev be a victim of a corrupt government who might try to use him to advance an agenda.

If we do not stand up for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev right to due process to have his day in court. We all lose and the Terrorist win. He has a right to bring forth witnesses in his defense and the right to discovery. If we do not make a stand for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev right to due process under the law and the Constitution.  The consequence will be. There will be no one to speak for us when we are on trial being set up. Stand for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev right to a speedy and fair trial or the tyrants win.

If due process was good enough for Obama’s buddies of the weathermen under ground when they were caught carrying out terrorist attacks nationwide killing Police officers. Then due process is good enough for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. If we do not stand for another person right to due process even though we might not agree with them or like them. if we do not stand up for them No one will stand up for us.

Morris Dees, Advisor to Army Intelligence, FBI and Homeland Security on Domestic Terror/Patriot Groups

Morris Dees headed for the historical dustbin?

by Gordon Duff, Senior Editor

In recent weeks, it has come to light that the US Army, DHS and FBI are compiling lists of organizations listed as “terrorist.”
Some are politically extremist but many are veterans groups, totally innocent historical organizations with octogenarian membership and more are legitimate and reasonable groups who oppose government censorship and spying.
The primary organizations supplying the lists, lists that leave out real terror groups for some reasons are the ADL under Abraham Foxman and the SPLC under Morris Dees.
Foxman is closely aligned with AIPAC, long involved in espionage and terrorism against the US.
Now, Veterans Today, a notoriously liberal and progressive organization, broadly multi-cultural and deeply infiltrated with Jews, Muslims and American Patriots, takes offense at Dees, Foxman and the others who are pushing America “over a cliff.”
Dees, well, this court document barely touches the surface:

al-qaeda, us irregular infantry in syria: wesbter tarpley 18 Apr 2013 8:39 AM (12 years ago)

Youtube  Apr 18, 2013

An analyst tells Press TV that the Obama administration is using al-Qaeda terrorists as its irregular infantry in its proxy war against Syria.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said that the West "will pay a heavy price" for pitting al-Qaeda militants against the Syrian government. He also condemned measures taken by Turkey and some of the country's Arab neighbors to support the anti-Syria terrorists, and their attempts to start a sectarian civil war in the country.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Dr. Webster Griffin Tarpley, author and historian from Washington DC.

surreal: us troops stage in jordan to defend al qaeda in syria 18 Apr 2013 8:09 AM (12 years ago)

Land Destroyer
Massive US arms/aid deliveries prop up Al Qaeda in Syria, while US troops stage in Jordan to defend terrorists they spent last decade fighting.

http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2013/04/surreal-us-troops-stage-in-jordan-to.html

April 18, 2013 (LD) - CNN reports that some 200 US troops are staging along Syria's border, this as reports reveal huge amounts of US-provided flour smuggled into Syria have formed the foundation of Al Qaeda's public relations strategy. Together with huge amounts of US-provided weapons, the aid is fueling Al Qaeda's continued operations and atrocities inside Syria.  The addition of US troops along Syria's border appears to be a response to recent and significant gains made by the Syrian government in stamping out terrorist operations nationwide.

Syria's "Rebels" are Same Terrorists US Fought for Last 10 Years

As reported in October 2012, the networks used to flood Iraq with weapons and Al Qaeda militants during the US occupation, had been positively identified by the extensive academic efforts of the US Army's own West Point Combating Terrorism Center (CTC). Two reports were published between 2007 and 2008 revealing a global network of Al Qaeda affiliated terror organizations, and how they mobilized to send a large influx of foreign fighters into Iraq.

Image: Cover of the US Army's West Point Combating Terrorism Center report, "Al-Qa'ida's Foreign Fighters in Iraq." The report definitively exposed a regional network used by Al Qaeda to send fighters into Iraq to sow sectarian violence during the US occupation. This exact network can now be seen demonstrably at work with NATO support, overrunning Libya and now Syria. The terrorists in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi that US Ambassador Stevens was arming, is described by the 2007 West Point report as one of the most prolific and notorious Al Qaeda subsidiaries in the world.
....

The first report, "Al-Qa'ida's Foreign Fighters in Iraq," was extensively cited by historian and geopolitical analyst Dr. Webster Tarpley in March of 2011, exposing that NATO-backed "pro-democracy" rebels in Libya were in fact Al Qaeda's Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), listed by the US State Department, United Nations, and the UK Home Office (page 5, .pdf) as an international terrorist organization.

These very same terrorist would then be documented flooding into Syria, primarily through Turkey with NATO complicity.

Image: Libyan Mahdi al-Harati of the US State Department, United Nations, and the UK Home Office (page 5, .pdf)-listed terrorist organization, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), addressing fellow terrorists in Syria. Harati is now commanding a Libyan brigade operating inside of Syria attempting to destroy the Syrian government and subjugate the Syrian population. Traditionally, this is known as "foreign invasion."
....

In November 2011, the Telegraph in their article, "Leading Libyan Islamist met Free Syrian Army opposition group," would report:
Abdulhakim Belhadj, head of the Tripoli Military Council and the former leader of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, "met with Free Syrian Army leaders in Istanbul and on the border with Turkey," said a military official working with Mr Belhadj. "Mustafa Abdul Jalil (the interim Libyan president) sent him there."
Another Telegraph article, "Libya’s new rulers offer weapons to Syrian rebels," would admit
Syrian rebels held secret talks with Libya's new authorities on Friday, aiming to secure weapons and money for their insurgency against President Bashar al-Assad's regime, The Daily Telegraph has learned.

At the meeting, which was held in Istanbul and included Turkish officials, the Syrians requested "assistance" from the Libyan representatives and were offered arms, and potentially volunteers.
"There is something being planned to send weapons and even Libyan fighters to Syria," said a Libyan source, speaking on condition of anonymity. "There is a military intervention on the way. Within a few weeks you will see."
Later that month, some 600 Libyan terrorists would be reported to have entered Syria to begin combat operations and have been flooding into the country ever since.

Image: (Left) West Point's Combating Terrorism Center's 2007 report, "Al-Qa'ida's Foreign Fighters in Iraq" indicated which areas in Syria Al Qaeda fighters filtering into Iraq came from. The overwhelming majority of them came from Dayr Al-Zawr in Syria's southeast, Idlib in the north near the Turkish-Syrian border, and Dar'a in the south near the Jordanian-Syrian border. (Right) A map indicating the epicenters of violence in Syria indicate that the exact same hotbeds for Al Qaeda in 2007, now serve as the epicenters of so-called "pro-democracy fighters."
....

In Syria, the southeastern region near Dayr Al-Zawr on the Iraqi-Syrian border, the northwestern region of Idlib near the Turkish-Syrian border, and Dar'a in the south near the Jordanian-Syrian border, produced the majority of fighters found crossing over into Iraq, according to the 2007 West Point study.

US CIA is Propping up Al Qaeda in Syria

These are now astonishingly the very areas the US CIA is overseeing the flow of thousands of tons of weapons and aid - aid that is clearly falling almost entirely into the hands of Al Qaeda's Syrian franchise, Jabhat al-Nusra.

The New York Times in their article titled, "Arms Airlift to Syria Rebels Expands, With C.I.A. Aid," admits that:

With help from the C.I.A., Arab governments and Turkey have sharply increased their military aid to Syria’s opposition fighters in recent months, expanding a secret airlift of arms and equipment for the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, according to air traffic data, interviews with officials in several countries and the accounts of rebel commanders.

The airlift, which began on a small scale in early 2012 and continued intermittently through last fall, expanded into a steady and much heavier flow late last year, the data shows. It has grown to include more than 160 military cargo flights by Jordanian, Saudi and Qatari military-style cargo planes landing at Esenboga Airport near Ankara, and, to a lesser degree, at other Turkish and Jordanian airports.
While the West attempts to claim these weapons are being sent to "moderates," the US State Department itself admits that Al Qaeda is operating in every major city in Syria, carrying out hundreds of terrorist attacks, and is by far the most highly organized, most prominent militant front in the conflict. If the West via Saudi Arabia and Qatar is sending thousands of tons of weapons to "moderates," who is sending more weapons to Jabhat al-Nusra?

The obvious answer is there are no moderates, and the West has been intentionally arming Al Qaeda from the beginning. In fact, this is a documented conspiracy first revealed as early as 2007 by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh in his New Yorker article titled, ""The Redirection: Is the Administration’s new policy benefiting our enemies in the war on terrorism?" which stated specifically:

To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has coöperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.
Now, further evidence that the summation of US aid has fallen into the hands of Al Qaeda in Syria, comes to us from the Washington Post's Liz Sly who reported in her article, "U.S. feeds Syrians, but secretly," that:
In the heart of rebel-held territory in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo, a small group of intrepid Westerners is undertaking a mission of great stealth. Living anonymously in a small rural community, they travel daily in unmarked cars, braving airstrikes, shelling and the threat of kidnapping to deliver food and other aid to needy Syrians — all of it paid for by the U.S. government.
Sly then claims that most Syrians credit Al Qaeda's al-Nusra with providing the aid:
“America has done nothing for us. Nothing at all,” said Mohammed Fouad Waisi, 50, spitting out the words for emphasis in his small Aleppo grocery store, which adjoins a bakery where he buys bread every day. The bakery is fully supplied with flour paid for by the United States. But Waisi credited Jabhat al-Nusra — a rebel group the United States has designated a terrorist organization because of its ties to al-Qaeda — with providing flour to the region, though he admitted he wasn’t sure where it comes from.
And while Sly attempts to spin the story as merely misdirected anger and ignorance on the part of Syrians receiving the aid, it is well documented that bakeries in terrorist-held territory are in fact manned by Al Qaeda militants. In fact, while Sly maintains that "security concerns" are owed for America's opaque aid distribution operation, it appears more likely the US is attempting to insidiously obfuscate its use of humanitarian aid to help its militant proxies win "hearts and minds" amid a humanitarian catastrophe the West itself engineered and perpetuated intentionally.

The London Telegraph revealed in their February 2013 article, "Syria: how jihadist group Jabhat al-Nusra is taking over Syria's revolution," that taking over bakeries was a key strategy used by Al Qaeda's al-Nusra front to "win over" the population:
Then, in the past weeks, Jabhat al-Nusra – which is outside the FSA – pushed other rebel groups out of the stores and established a system to distribute bread throughout rebel areas.
In a small office attached to a bakery in the Miesseh district of Aleppo, Abu Yayha studied a map pinned on the wall. Numbers were scrawled in pencil against streets.

“We counted the population of every street to assess the need for the area,” explained Mr Yahya. “We provide 23,593 bags of bread every two days for this area. This is just in one district. We are calculating the population in other districts and doing the same there.

“In shops the cost is now 125 Syrian pounds (£1.12) for one pack. Here we sell it at 50 Syrian pounds (45p) for two bags. We distribute some for free for those who cannot pay.”

The bakery works constantly. Inside, barrows filled with dough were heaved onto a conveyor belt that chopped it into round and flat segments, before pushing the dough into a giant oven. Workers packed the steaming flatbread in bags.

“I am from Jabhat al Nusra. All the managers of all the bakeries are,” said Abu Fattah, the manager. “This makes sure that nobody steals.”
In essence, Al Qaeda is taking over neighborhoods upon a mountain of US-provided flour, in bakeries overrun and held at the barrels of US-provided guns. Just as was planned in 2007, the US is attempting to overthrow the government of Syria with "extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda."

Humanitarian aid is being used as a political weapon to carve out territory for the West's heavily armed proxies and extort cooperation from the subjugated people who find themselves inside Al Qaeda-occupied territory.

US Military To Stage on Border to Protect Al Qaeda

The Pentagon now reports that some 200 US troops are on their way to augment an already established US military presence along the Jordanian-Syrian border. CNN reported in their article, "U.S. military to step up presence in Jordan in light of Syria civil war," that:
The troops, which will number up to 200, are from the headquarters of the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas, two Defense Department officials told CNN.
The deployment "creates an additional capability" beyond what has been there, one official said, and will give the United States the ability to "potentially form a joint task force for military operations, if ordered."
Exactly where on the spectrum between actual operational intention and psychological warfare the deployment represents is still uncertain. What is certain, is that the US is deploying military assets with the intent of bolstering militant efforts inside Syria and along its peripheries. The astonishing irony is that many of the terrorists operating on both sides of the Jordanian-Syrian border US troops plan on "defending," may quite literally have been the same militants killing US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for the past 10 years.

US foreign policy has unraveled to such an extent that it risks unhinging entirely America's legitimacy and relevance abroad, as well as peace and prosperity at home.

Brother Edward Davis, you don't know me. I am not a Boston boy, I was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. Typically, I ought to be a Jets or Giants fan, but I like The Patriots. I don't know what happens when Bellicheck and Brady leaves. That's the way of the world though, because I used to be a Bear's fan because I liked Mike Ditka. Loyalties change, can change, over time. We love our sports heroes because we can vicariously live through them. We want to think we could make that pitch, throw that pass, make that run. Sports are sort of a metaphor of life. Sports heroes give us, in action, examples of qualities, we would all like to possess.

Boston is a big part of me, as is the scorpion tail coast all the way to Provincetown. My daughter was born at Beth Israel Hospital. Eating Boston Clam Chowder in Fanuieul Hall, is one of my favorite things.

You are a policeman of high rank. I know all about deals in high places but... I take you as a man of honor and duty and I have walked your streets from Cambridge to Southie. I know how high toned the town can be and I know about The Combat Zone. I've been to the soiree and to the slums and then some.

I'm what you might consider an outlaw. I'm not a criminal, I just prefer my own choices of mind medicine to the ones that the corporations push. I understand your position. I know all about quid pro quo. Indeed I do. I know why some things are illegal and why others are not and I also know that the things that are legal, are often more harmful than the things that are not. However, you and I are brothers of a kind. We are both in pursuit of the truth I am not some street junkie or anyone involved in the sale and transfer of such things.

I know you got your districts, like New York does, or did, with Mulberry Street. I know you have a lot on your plate at the moment; probably do at any moment but... someone just thrashed one of your most enduring traditions, The Boston Marathon. It's the oldest tradition of it's kind.

It was a surgical strike, professionally delivered but... giving all the appearances of an amateur effort, by some independent operatives with a grudge. The truth is that this was done by a collective, collaboration between Mossad and the CIA and probably including the thoroughly corrupt FBI. This is a continuation of 9/11, 7/7 and the Madrid train station bombings. All of these were also done by the same people. I ask you to read this. Read it carefully through. Don't dismiss it as tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy nonsense. We are past that point now, are we not? Nothing else makes sense! It's right there and verifiable on the internet for you to read IF you have the stones to go there. I think you do. There is so much, so very, very much... that points the finger ALWAYS in the same direction.

The truth is, my brother, you are dealing with psychopaths. I understand this phenomena differently than you do. That is why you are a police commissioner and I am a not very successful artist/outlaw. We approach our perspective from different angles. You see things I don't see and I definitely see things you don't see. You are constrained by a chain of command. I am a bit more flexible.

Now, my brother, I can through the sheer force of irrefutable evidence, prove my case. You, my brother, unlike Rudolph Giuliani, are not completely compromised. By this, I mean, complicit. I think you have some degree of honor and integrity. There's something about Boston that brings things out in men where they truly rise to the occasion, or go into the fate of Cardinal Wolsey. There is something about Boston that brings out the best and the worst in people on all kinds of levels. I hope the best comes out of you my brother.

To put it simply and I can prove it out. There is a convincing argument that says, “What happened at the Boston marathon was a false flag action. You will not find your terrorists by shutting down your city and frisking the residents. You need to go look at Mossad and the CIA. You need to look at these intelligence services. You need to ask yourself, is it possible that this behemoth, uncatchable, unkillable; this Jack in the Box, Bin Laden, who won't stay in his coffin; making Baron Samedi appearances every time 'there is a need', might not be just an artistic construct of the same thing again and again: AND THEN it turns to what?

Every time this shit goes down, you round up the usual suspects and put them through the process. C'mon! The catamite mainstream press admits that you are looking in the wrong direction. One of our most trenchant and gifted writers spells out the tone and tenor of the matter. This is not idle chatter and that is an accidental rhyme. You are being played. All the good and decent men in your department are running around looking for something that isn't there. You are a man of honor. I hear a lot about the police in America these days. Quite often they resemble mindless thugs whose only function is to protect corporate interests. Surely you have seen that the Wall Street Bankers have looted the public wealth. If you don't go after the real criminals, you spend your hours, watching or chasing people who happen to be around.

This is not a drill. Comprende? It doesn't occur to you that every time these things happen there is always a drill going on at the same time? Look at the evidence! Every damned time it happens- there is a training exercise or drill. Does 9/11 ring a bell? Some among The Tribe, like the aforementioned writer are trying to change the schematic. We are at the precipice! Stop mugging the public and go after the ones who are trying to turn your world into a prison camp. Arrest your false leaders! Go into their offices and boardrooms, chambers and sessions and arrest them. Those are the criminals. These are the men and women who did and do these things.

“Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty”. Semper Fi! on all levels. I wasn't a Marine but I am an officer in the Army of God and I am capable of every effort to accomplish it.

What I would ask of you my brother and equal is, do you want to know who did this deed on your turf.

My brother, I believe you would like to step forward but you fear for your family. I will bet there are many high ranking police and less high ranking. I will bet there are many military personnel, high ranking and less ranking. I believe there are many civil servants of high rank and of low rank who think, suspect and some, by this time know and truly believe that they have been deceived. Your worst enemies are not outside. They are inside. They do not care about you. Those of you who serve the people in the corridors of power, now is the hour for all of you to come forward in whatever way you may to shine alight upon the darkness that threatens to swallow us all. I will not fall or fail. You must not fall or fail.

The time has come when we can no longer entertain these vampire beasts upon the neck of the nation. They have looted the till and they mean you ill. Will you simply bend and go down into ignominious subjugation and death or will you rise up and demand a change? If true change cannot come by negotiation then it must be taken back and it can be taken back by stepping back and saying, “I will not kiss your foul hand any longer. I will not sell out my integrity in order to live a life that has no meaning without it. Commissioner, all you commissioners and principalities in high places, please come into the embrace of the unfolding graces. If life is but a mortal dream then there is no need to live your term in chains. You can lift the collar from around your neck. You put it there yourself, the day you swore to uphold all of the things so cherished that they trampled under their feet.

The time has come.

brought to you by cops posing as terrorists: the big sleep 17 Apr 2013 7:41 AM (12 years ago)

THE REBL

John Kaminski

Why is there no trail of blood? Why is he conscious? And why is the knee so far away from his main body?
Why is there no trail of blood? Why is he conscious? And why is the knee so far away from his main body?
When are we going to wake up?

Will we ever be able to see how our government deliberately turns our joyous days into tragedies, and now has advanced its criminality into killing innocent people as part of a drill to show us why we have to be frisked, molested or irradiated at every public event we attend?

It's not exactly new stuff, this Boston Massacre Marathon Drill. For those who still haven't gotten the message, the Boston Police have admitted and numerous witnesses have observed that before the bombs that killed and maimed hundreds of happy observers of an innocent road race that the authorities were conducting an anti-terror drill during the race.

The bombs that went off on that sunny, happy spring afternoon prove beyond doubt — and once again, for the hundredth time — that it is our government that are the terrorists, and they're not out to protect us — they're out to kill us — and rob us and enslave us — while they demonstrate this demented need for security as they themselves create the terror.

How many recent examples do you need?

How about Sandy Hook and Aurora, two psyops that are riddled with questions the government will never answer?

We don't really know if any of those human beings the cop-controlled media said were killed were actually killed at all, but we do know that if anyone actually was killed — like Adam Lanza and his mother — they were doubtless killed by cops posing as terrorists.

We don't know if James Holmes actually killed anyone in that Colorado theater complex. We have certainly never seen him in a condition to kill a fly, never mind people. Drugged into a stupor and not permitted to explain what he knew to the public is all we've ever seen of him, with all of his history provided by our cop-friendly media.

Anybody who was killed in these so-called terror events was killed by cops, just as so many innocent people are murdered these days by these rampaging thugs in uniforms.

The so-called Sandy Hook massacre was clearly a psyop. A top ranking cop even came out and said anybody who challenges the official version of events could be put in jail, verifying the lies he was spewing. They switched the license plate on the mysterious red van and attached it to Adam Lanza's Honda. Why would they do that, except to cover up their crimes?

But this kind of deception is not exactly new stuff.

In fact, when you look closely at these phenomena — all of American history, at least throughout the 20th century and probably longer than that— is exactly the same kind of false flag operation, emotionally blackmailing the populace into something they don't want to do that is not in their best interests.

Think about this, people. Think about the string of catastrophes that have plagued the public mind and diminished the public's health in recent memory.

Hurricane Sandy? First storm you ever saw with an uncanny S-turn in the worst possible location precisely predicted five days in advance.

And then think back to Hurricane Katrina, when they had to bomb the levies to get the necessary disastrous effect.

The Gulf Oil Spill, on which the same people who run the government made billions by betting the disaster would happen.

Or the crotch bomber and the shoe bomber, and the prosecution of drugged and duped drifters that led us to getting cancer or being sexually molested at airports and other public venues.

The Boston Marathon Massacre is the next step in this adventure. Now we'll have to be groped — "to protect the public" — at every public event we attend.

We all are tempted to believe that these false flag psyop events are some kind of new phenomenon. Oh, the feckless, badly educated masses consider them to be real enough, and consequently believe what the government tells them, which makes them want to go out and shoot the nearest Muslim, or their next door neighbor who talks about the Second Amendment.

But this activity is not new. It is the essence of American history — leaders foisting a scam on all of us because they have received giant bribes to do so.

The Boston Marathon Massacre stands as merely the latest in a seemingly endless series of deceptions that stretches back through time — Aurora, Sandy Hook, and "killing" Osama bin Laden, the mere mention of whom takes us back to the granddaddy of all American political lies, the 9/11 massacre, which our government refused to let us investigate authentically because it was the trigger that led to the needless deaths of millions of people, which our government wanted to happen.
This is perhaps the most stunning example ever of cops posing as terrorists, and as we can adduce from the events on Boylston Street in Boston on Patriots Day, continues today stronger than ever.
Will we ever wake up and see the spreading scam for what it is?

When you put everything into context and take the wider view — the biotech food, the toxic geoengineering, the mind-dulling fluoride, the carcinogenic radiation, the poison medicine, the legal system that is a cross between the Mafia and an African tribe of cannibals, a school system with all the relevance of a daytime TV soap opera, and a media absolutely uncritical of our killer government, the answer is clearly no — we will not wake up, even as we know we are perishing by the minute.
"The Big Sleep" is the title of a 1939 mystery novel by Raymond Chandler and a euphemism for death. Full of characters who hide their ulterior motives and kill anyone to advance their warped goals, it is a condition that engulfs us today.

The only way the world can escape this imposed amnesia, already so well advanced throughout the world, is to immediately evict and execute all those elected officials who continue to participate in this colossally big lie, who willingly assist in this gigantic terror hoax as a way to get temporarily rich in the deepening twilight of humanity's slide toward oblivion and extinction.

Enforcing bogus laws, planting evidence, and intimidating the innocent, the cops are today's terrorists, and the dupes they deceive into the taking the fall are you and me, and all the other millions of oblivious stooges who refuse to see what they're doing.

bombs from boston to baghdad: what Is the value of a human life?: 16 Apr 2013 5:46 PM (12 years ago)

Judged by the media coverage, it is hard not to conclude that western lives are valued much more highly than those of people in Afghanistan, Iraq or the Middle East.

By Lindsey German

April 16, 2013 "Information Clearing House" -"Stop The War" - The bombing in Boston is a tragedy, and everyone should condemn the actions of people who have destroyed the lives of people enjoying themselves watching the marathon.

But last week in Afghanistan a US airstrike killed eleven children and several women. This Afghan bombing is only one of many that are killing civilians every week.

In Iraq bombs go off in crowded areas regularly. A wave of bombings across the country yesterday left at least 75 Iraqis dead.

And in Syria too, there is a daily repetition of carnage that is killing countless civilians.

Judged by the media coverage, it is hard not to conclude that western lives are valued much more highly than those of people in Afghanistan or the Middle East, and that bombs in the middle of major US cities are regarded as more newsworthy than those in the Afghan countryside or in Baghdad.

When commentators and journalists empathise with the victims of the Boston bomb, many will wonder why they give hardly a passing thought for those other victims who were also caught in the middle of their everyday lives, enjoying themselves in the sunshine, shopping in markets or celebrating weddings.

The general rule seems to be 'out of sight, out of mind'.

But the mayhem wreaked by western intervention in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and elsewhere is not out of the minds of the millions who witness it and live with it every day. Nor is it forgotten by those in the west who opposed these policies and predicted they would create more terrorism, not less.

It is unclear who was responsible for the Boston bombs, with the reports suggesting either a group from the Middle East, or home grown right wing extremists marking Patriot Day.

That hasn't stopped right wing commentators (step forward Fox News' commentator) from blaming the Muslims and from Muslims worldwide expressing fears that this new attack would lead to further scapegoating and racism towards them.

Terrorism is now routinely blamed on Muslims even though most Muslims are as horrified by such attacks as anyone else. And even though the most serious terror attack in Europe in recent years was from a right wing extremist in Norway trying to advance his anti immigration and anti Muslim agenda.

Whatever the truth about this latest bombing, the continued refusal to acknowledge the widespread grievances against the US and its allies caused by the wars and US policies in the Middle East will lead to turmoil until political solutions are found.

That solution includes getting all foreign troops out of Afghanistan and the Middle East, ending discrimination against Muslims and supporting justice for the Palestinians.

Not coming any time soon, then?

This is all that is, American exceptionalism. In the mainstream media, our lives are more valuable than Muslim ones.

People are always divided into artificial groups by leaders who seek to use them for exploitation or as murderer-soldiers. The division is made possible by propaganda which paints their group as good and the other as bad. Everyone knows this and yet our capacity to be fooled by leaders seems infnite. So when our people are killed it is tragic and when theirs are killed it is either good or if its children then its collateral damage.

obama quietly strips anti-corruption provisions from stock act 16 Apr 2013 5:15 PM (12 years ago)

High-ranking federal employees will not be required to disclose financial information online, after President Obama signed an amendment to a bill that was meant to put an end to insider trading among members of Congress and government staffers.

The provisions to the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act were quietly approved by both chambers of Congress at the end of last week before being passed onto the president’s desk. The bill had previously been delayed several times before the White House announced on Monday that Obama had approved the changes.

The original STOCK Act was signed by the Obama administration last year in a highly publicized ceremony, during which he said the new law would restore the American public’s faith in the Washington elite. Congressional lawmakers have long been accused of profiting from stock information derived as a result of their position. A civilian moving money based on information gained in a similar fashion would be breaking the law.

It’s a good first step,” Obama said after the passage last year. “And in the months ahead, Congress should do even more to help fight the destructive influence of money in politics and rebuild the trust between Washington and the American people.”

Last week, both chambers unanimously voted in favor of the amendments that will shield them from having to make such disclosures. In addition to the obvious implications of politicians giving themselves the option to omit financial information, the decision is notable in that it came among Congress' least-productive session on record.

In a delay earlier this year, Congress approved a study by the National Academy of Public Administration, which determined an online database would threaten the safety of public officials and make running for office less appealing for people working in the private sector.

Roughly 28,000 government officials would have been forced to make their financial records publicly available, according to The Hill, although that stipulation has drawn the ire of federal government employee unions.

Other, albeit less visible, reporting methods will still pertain to the president, vice president, members of Congress and candidates for Congress starting in 2014.

Perhaps most damaging to the STOCK Act, according to government transparency watchdog Open Secrets, was the removal of the following two provisions:

Creation of the searchable, sortable, disclosure of the information contained in reports even for Congress, the president, vice president, the president’s cabinet and congressional candidates,” in addition to “Required electronic filing for Congress, the president, vice president, the president’s cabinet and congressional candidates, as well as high-level executive and congressional branch employees."

new york times v. north korea 15 Apr 2013 9:34 PM (12 years ago)

By Stephen Lendman
4-15-13
The Times is America's unofficial ministry of information and propaganda. Daily managed news misinformation is featured.

Articles, commentaries and editorials are brazenly one-sided. Readers are systematically lied to. Fiction substitutes for facts. Information is carefully filtered. Dissent is marginalized.
When America goes to war or plans one, Times editors, correspondents and contributors march in lockstep. Independent leaders are denigrated. Democrats are called despots.
Rule of law principles don't matter. Democratic values are ignored. Imperial wars are called liberating ones. Mass murder, destruction and human misery go unreported. What's most important isn't explained.

Wealth, power and privilege alone matter. Wrong over right is endorsed. Patriotism means supporting what demands condemnation. America uber alles matters most.
The Times features hostile North Korean coverage. It's done so for decades. It's biased and irresponsible. Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il were vilified. So is Kim Jong Un. An April 13 report called him "young and defiant."
Nonexistent threats are headlined. Truth is turned on its head. Readers are systematically misinformed. They're lied to. It's longstanding Times policy. News most fit to print is omitted.
On April 12, The Times headlined "In Focus: North Korea's Nuclear Threats."

"What exactly is North Korea threatening to do," it asked? It "issu(es) near-daily threats against the United States and South Korea, and sometimes at United States forces in the Pacific."
Irresponsibly deploying them there goes unmentioned. America's imperial agenda isn't discussed. Its global footprint gets short shrift. Its permanent war agenda isn't explained.

Former US diplomat Charles Freeman commented earlier on Washington's war on terror. "How can we win," he asked? America's "enem(ies are) so ill-understood that we must invent a nonexistent ideology" for justification, he said.

Not according to Times editors. Iran is Exhibit A. So is North Korea. They're the two remaining components of Bush's "axis of evil."
Times editors make sure readers don't forget. "In one of the boldest warnings," they claimed, "the North said it could carry out pre-emptive nuclear strikes against the United States."
"(W)hether nuclear-tipped or not, (s)ome of its missiles could hit South Korea or Japan and American forces there…."

"Why is North Korea threatening the United States now? Because" more sanctions followed its February nuclear test, The Times claimed. It also "ratchets up its political speech during joint United States-South Korea military exercises…."

It has every right to do so. They include war games. They target the North. Simulated nuclear bombs were dropped. Imagine US and other Western responses if North Korea, Iran, Russia or China held similar exercises off America's east, west, or gulf coasts. Doing so might be considered an act of war.
"What might North Korea be trying to accomplish with its threats?" Earlier, Washington and South Korea promised "concessions, including much-needed aid, in return for" Pyongyang denuclearizing.
US commitments aren't worth the paper they're written on. Promises made are broken. Times editors accused North Korea of "reneg(ing)." They lied saying so.

"Highlighting a perceived threat from abroad (is a) favorite tool the North Korean government uses to ensure internal cohesion in an impoverished country" needing aid.
North Korea wants normalized relations. It's wanted them for decades. Washington spurned efforts every time. Pyongyang's more valuable as an enemy. It's hyped threat is nonexistent. Times editors don't explain.

"What kind of nuclear weapons and missile technology does North Korea possess?"
"North Korea has conducted three nuclear tests since 2006." It has every right to do so. America conducts its own. They go unreported. Doing so belies Obama's claim about "seek(ing) a nuclear-free world."

America's the only nation risking nuclear armageddon. It unilaterally asserts a preemptive first strike nuclear policy. It claims the right to do so against nuclear or non-nuclear states. Enemies Washington invents are targeted.

Jeremi Suri's hardline, militant and irresponsible. He calls power "essential." He's University of Texas, Austin, Professor of history and public affairs. Times editors gave him featured op-ed space. He took full advantage.

He headlined "Bomb North Korea, Before It's Too Late," saying:
"SINCE February, the North Korean government has followed one threatening move with another. The spiral began with an underground nuclear test."
"Then the North declared the armistice that ended the Korean War invalid. The young dictator Kim Jong-un followed with a flurry of threats to attack civilian targets in South Korea, Japan and the United States."

"President Obama should state clearly and forthrightly that this is an act of self-defense in response to explicit threats from North Korea and clear evidence of a prepared weapon."
"If North Korea can use its small nuclear arsenal to blackmail the region with impunity, why shouldn’t the mullahs in Tehran try to do the same?"

"The most prudent move is to eliminate the most imminent threat in self-defense….(This) kind of pre-emptive action….would save lives and maybe even preserve the uneasy peace on the Korean Peninsula."

It's hard imagining responsible editors publishing this type commentary. It's unprincipled, reckless, and inflammatory. It justifies imperial aggression. It violates international, constitutional, and US statute laws doing so.

Attacking North Korea risks global war. It risks nuclear armageddon. It risks what responsible editors should condemn. Don't expect The Times editorial board to explain.

A Final Comment

Robert Parry called NYT columnist Tom Friedman's commentaries "disastrous." He "paid no career price for his misguided judgments and simplistic nostrums."
He supported Bush's Iraq war. He's unconcerned about imperial aggression. He suggests America's "designated enemies" border on insanity.

On April 6, he headlined "How We've Wasted Our Timeout," saying:
Wherever "you turn, you see different actors standing with their toes on red lines, seemingly ready and willing, even itching, to cross them at any moment."
North Korea's "boy king, Kim Jong Un, who seems totally off the grid, has ordered his strategic rocket forces to be on standby, ready to hit US and South Korean targets at a moment's notice."
Iran heads "closer to a similar combination of a homemade nuclear weapon and delivery system, and so far no sanctions have deterred Tehran."

"….Syria's mad leader, Bashar al-Assad, (chose) ruin for his country."
University of Texas, Austin, Professor of Journalism Robert Jensen calls Friedman "scary." He features "underinflated insights," "twisted metaphors," "second-rate thinking," "third-rate writing," and "hack journalis(m)."

What's most concerning is his political and professional acclaim. His Times columns appear twice weekly. He's won three Pulitzer Prizes. His books are best-sellers. He's featured on US television. He "fills lecture halls for a speaking fee as high as $75,000."

"Although his work is stunningly shallow and narcissistic, (he's) celebrated as a big thinker."
"How does a journalist with a track record of bad predictions and a penchant for superficial analysis - a person paid to reflect about the world yet who seems to lack the capacity for critical self-reflection - end up being treated as an oracle?"

He's perfect "for a management-focused, advertising-saturated, dumbed-down, imperial culture that doesn't want to come to terms with the systemic and structural reasons for its decline."
He avoids speaking truth to power. He's not alone. Times' pages are strewn with likeminded columnists.

What's most important goes unreported. It's longstanding Times policy. Imperial priorities matter most.
Savvy readers and viewers are best served by choosing credible alternative sources. Maybe some day everyone will.

Getting reliable information depends on it. Imagine the difference that would make. World peace would be possible. And a whole lot more.

us turns to domestic extremism as new counterterrorism focus 15 Apr 2013 8:57 PM (12 years ago)

Obama says unclear who was responsible for Boston blastsDirector of US National Intelligence James Clapper

While insisting that al-Qaeda has been “shattered” as an anti-US threat, American officials are reportedly struggling to invent a new ‘counterterrorism’ policy, with domestic extremists mentioned as the new focus.

“The threat from al-Qaeda and the potential for a massive coordinated attack on the United States may be diminished, but the jihadist movement is more diffuse,” said Director of US National Intelligence James Clapper at a congressional hearing Thursday as quoted in a Los Angeles Times report on Monday.

“Lone wolves, domestic extremists and jihad-inspired affiliated groups are still determined to attack Western interests,” he reportedly added during a testimony at the House Intelligence Committee hearing.

Citing US military officials, the report says as a result of the assassination drone strikes and “other counter-terrorism operations” by the CIA spy agency, al-Qaeda “has been so eviscerated that US intelligence agencies no longer fully understand the organizational structure below its nominal leader, Ayman Zawahiri.”

Further underlining claims that all “top lieutenants” of Zawahiri have been killed by CIA operatives “almost as quickly as they are identified,” the report cites Obama administration officials as contending, however, that “smaller, far-flung and largely autonomous factions” of al-Qaeda in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Mali and Somalia “remain dangerous” and US forces cannot “relax their focus.

The report then claims that the US has “gutted” the shadowy al-Qaeda organization in Yemen through numerous assassination drone strikes in the impoverished country and the rise to power of a new US-installed dictator there that has allowed the Americans a free hand to operate across the nation.

It then quotes Rosa Brooks, a former deputy assistant secretary at the Pentagon, as saying, “To the best of our information, there is nobody out there with both the desire and the capabilities to cause any serious damage to the US in any way at this moment.”

Despite such claims about delivering huge blows to anti-US terror threats, however, the report further cites other former officials and expert as indicating that Washington has no intent to reduce its “counterterrorism” spending even amid the ongoing budget crisis facing the federal government.

“You give a bureaucracy 10 years of unfettered growth and no real hard questions, and you’re going to have an entire industry looking at al-Qaeda nodes as an existential threat,” said Shawn Brimley, former White House director for strategic planning on the National Security Council, who left the Obama administration in 2012.

Brimley further emphasized that top US officials “from the White House on down” clearly recognize that as Washington’s so-called ‘war on terror’ winds down, “we need to address the hard question of what does a sustainable counter-terrorism policy look like for the next phase.”

The daily then cites “former top CIA and FBI official,” Philip Mudd as contending that the US needs to retain the “intelligence machinery” that “finds, fixes and finishes” terrorist leaders “for the foreseeable future, even if only in rare cases.”

Two bombs ripped through the crowd at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, killing two people and injuring dozens in what a White House official said would be handled as an “an act of terror.”

President Barack Obama promised to hunt down whoever was responsible for the attack on a day when tens of thousands of spectators pack the streets to watch the world-famous race.

Many runners were heading for the finish when a fireball and smoke rose from behind cheering spectators and a row of flags representing the countries of participants, video from the scene showed.
The cheers turned to screams and panic.

“It sounded like a sonic boom. I haven't stopped shaking yet,” said Melissa Stanley, who watched her daughter cross the finish line four minutes before the explosions.

Ambulances, fire trucks, and dozens of police vehicles converged on the scene, and spectators could be seen crying and consoling each other.

The dead included an 8-year-old boy, The Boston Globe reported, citing two law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation.

“I saw people who looked like they had their legs blown off. There was a lot of blood over their legs. Then people were being pushed in wheelchairs,” said Joe Anderson, 33, a fisherman from Pembroke, Mass., who had just run the race holding a large U.S. flag.

The blasts put police on alert in major cities across the United States, including in Washington, D.C., and New York City, sites of the 9/11 hijacked plane attacks.

Authorities said three died and 141 were injured in the blasts.

Some of those may have been hospitalized for treatment from running the marathon. The Boston Globe newspaper reported that more than 115 people were hurt.

Two high-level U.S. law enforcement officials, who declined to be identified, said one or more bombs caused the explosions at the scene of the marathon, which is run annually on the state holiday Patriots' Day.

“These were powerful devices that resulted in serious injury,” Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis told reporters.

About an hour after the 2:50 p.m. blasts in Boston's Copley Square marred the usually joyous end to the marathon, a fire erupted at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library three miles away, but no one was injured, police said. Authorities were uncertain whether the fire was related, Davis said.

In Washington, Obama told reporters, “Make no mistake, we will get to the bottom of this and we will find out who did this.”

He said “any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice.”
No suspect was in custody. The FBI, Justice Department, Homeland Security, and other agencies were all investigating, authorities said.

“Evil, Evil, Evil

Runners from the marathon and others went to Massachusetts General Hospital offering to donate blood.

“This was evil, evil, evil,” said Kevin Garboit, 46, from the hospital lobby, asking staff if he could donate blood. He was told to come back Tuesday morning.

Without knowing who perpetrated the attack, the White House said it was handling the incident as “an act of terror.”

“Any event with multiple explosive devices — as this appears to be — is clearly an act of terror, and will be approached as an act of terror,” a White House official said.

The two explosions were about 50 to 100 yards apart as runners crossed the finish line, with a timer showing 4 hours and 9 minutes, some 9 minutes faster than the average finish time, as reported by Runner's World magazine.

Of the 23,326 runners who started the race on Monday, 17,584 finished before the blast, marathon officials said. Runners were diverted before officials brought the marathon to a halt.

Spectators typically line the 26.2 mile race course, with the heaviest crowds near the finish line.
Mike Mitchell of Vancouver, Canada, a runner who had finished the race, said he was looking back at the finish line and saw a “massive explosion.”

Smoke rose 50 feet in the air, Mitchell said. People began running and screaming after hearing the noise, Mitchell said.

“Everybody freaked out,” Mitchell said.

The Boston Marathon has been held on Patriots' Day, the third Monday of April, since 1897. The event, which starts in Hopkinton, Mass., and ends in Boston's Copley Square, attracts an estimated half-million spectators and some 20,000 participants every year.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra canceled Monday night's concert and the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins canceled their home game against the Ottawa Senators. The Boston Red Sox had completed their Major League Baseball game at Fenway Park before the explosions.

Earlier on Monday, Ethiopia's Lelisa Desisa and Kenya's Rita Jeptoo won the men's and women's events, continuing African runners' dominance in the sport.
