Smoke Don’t Smoke is a reaching hand, hopefully pulling you into a world of music that is both new, and just really good. Experimental pop, DIY, electro, and everything in between, I just want to share. Because sharing is caring.
Time passes. Or it doesn’t. Maybe it’s a trip that we all get fooled about experiencing together. In that vein, I decided to put together a group of songs for you, dear readers, that feel the essence of my elemental beings of music here in the late summer days of 2015. Songs to take on the road with you these heat-full days of the northern hemisphere, or to snuggle in with those of you in cooler parts of this planet. Because no one on earth has heard these artists’ songs (not even their moms), it’d be great to share ‘em around. Remember their names, listen to their other jams. Some of these songs are the first of their kind. Love them with care. Listen!
Don’t forget to chip in to these artists’ beer/retirement funds. Click through to their sites through the handy hypertext links provided below and buy their records, tapes, t-shirts and concert tix.
Grab this beautiful ivory-shelled, gold laced cassette. Gangplans distinct ability to create vibes worth dying for, combined with their knack for working with some of the most talented artists around, make this a very excitable release for us.

We’re happy to announce our latest release from Los Angeles artist Flashing Red Lights. Mack Slevin has been making music as Flashing Red Lights for a little over three years, experimenting with bedroom productions, his style is varied and yet very clearly his own. In Our Parking Lot, Between The Cars continues to explore his unique production techniques and highlights his lyrical style that is no doubt influenced by the kind of introspection that living in LA cultivates.
London based four piece Woman’s Hour just swooped across my perifery today, and I’m really glad it did. Conversations is their title track off of their upcoming full-length, and it’s really really nice. It’s simple pop, smooth and flowing like melted butter.
Stumbled upon this brilliant new EP by Echo Park experimental psyche-pop artist James Supercave. The Afternoon EPis four tracks, each one delving deeper into some sort of unknown nostalgic art pop genius. It’s definitely an addictive listen.
Very excited about this new project. They blew everyone away at SXSW, and their debut album is gonna do things to people. Their self-titled debut is out May 13 on Partisan Records.
Chandler Strang of Saskatchewan has a new project. And it’s beautiful dancy beat music. Instantly fell in love with this cut of X priest X’s track Samurai.
NOIA is the solo project of gisela fullà, a barcelonaut based in Brooklyn.
NOIA speaks about the search for ithacas while you get distracted by american pop tunes on the radio. Stay tuned for the digital debut EP release this March 2014 in Egyptian Maraccas netlabel.
Life is crazy, and gives you things you never expected. You can end up being someone you never thought you wanted to be, and even when you end up being that person you didn’t think you would be, it’s totally different than the image of it that you had in your mind. Because the image you had in your mind didn’t involve the person that you love. I guess that’s what’s missing from those imagined realities, and what makes them only as valuable as the presence or absence of that one person. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I missed this mixtape last year because life was just really busy. Not a great excuse, but it’s the one I got. We’re five years in and it’s only getting better.
