Remembering Bert’s Big Adventure Kid Alyssa Leonard 14 Jan 5:50 AM (3 months ago)

Alyssa Leonard

1998 – 2025
Bert’s Big Adventure 2007

With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we share the news that Alyssa Leonard passed away on January 11, 2025, at the age of 26. Alyssa’s journey was one of grace, courage, and an unwavering spirit. She was just eight years old when she first became part of the Bert’s Big Adventure family in 2007, joining us for a magical trip to Walt Disney World.

That trip marked the beginning of a lasting connection, one that would span nearly two decades, touching countless lives along the way.

For years, she bravely fought a battle against brainstem glioma, a rare and aggressive tumor that affected her brainstem—the vital area of the brain that connects to the spinal cord. Her resilience throughout the years has inspired so many members of the Bert’s Big Adventure community. Alyssa held a special place in the hearts of the Bert’s Big Adventure staff and everyone who had the honor of meeting her. She was kind-hearted and a source of immense joy. She had an ability to make anyone feel seen and valued, lighting up every room she entered with her infectious smile and, most memorably, her laughter. Alyssa’s heart was as big as her spirit, and her love for her family was unshakable. They, in turn, adored her deeply.

Her loving mother, Angela, shared the following tribute to her daughter:

“Alyssa Jade Leonard’s extraordinary gift for making everyone feel valued and cherished ignited a ripple effect of empathy and warmth that will continue to resonate.”

Having known Alyssa made us all better. We are grateful for the gift of being in her orbit and learning from her inherent wisdom.

In 2007, during the 5-day trip to Walt Disney World, Alyssa and Bert built a beautiful bond. The two have continued to foster their meaningful relationship over the last eighteen years. Alyssa lovingly referred to Bert as her “Godfather,” a high honor and a true testament to how she viewed their connection. In 2023, Alyssa reflected on this connection with her characteristic warmth:

“I’m so grateful Bert is my Godfather… he’s the best Godfather I could ever ask for.”

Alyssa Leonard

Alyssa has been a regular at quarterly reunion adventures since their inception – always smiling, always sharing stories, and forever laughing over jokes. She brought joy wherever she went, and her absence will be felt deeply in the hearts of all who knew her.

Bert shared a final, heartfelt message about Alyssa:

“For her entire life, anybody around Alyssa has been in awe of her determination and pure will to live every second of her life in a happy place. Her life is the best example of leaving a wake of goodness and great memories for all of us mourning her.”

Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve.

Pork Ice Cream Is A Thing That’s Officially Happening 4 May 2018 3:02 AM (6 years ago)

I’m just not sure these are two foods that needed to get-it-on. An ice cream company called Windy Brow Farms just created an ice cream that’s filled with big chunks of PORK. Every gallon has almost a pound of pork roll in it.

The ice cream is also flavored with French toast and maple syrup because they realized if it was JUST pork ice cream it’d be, in their words, “gross.”

If you’re interested, you’ll probably have to go to their main store in New Jersey or other ice cream shops in that area.

doesn’t get much more Jersey than this! • Taylor Ham+French Toast ice cream debuts tomorrow as part of our ‘Only In Jersey’ collection! #taylorham #maplesyrup #icecream #jersey @petegenovese @FoodAddictors @nytfood @NewJerseyFood @Food52 @PeopleFood pic.twitter.com/Bp4yYORCKv

70% of Us Plan to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo…But Only 10% Know What It’s About 4 May 2018 2:35 AM (6 years ago)

Cinco de Mayo is tomorrow, and 70% of us plan to celebrate in one way or another. But this is kind of depressing: only 10% of us know WHY we’re celebrating.

1,000 Americans were asked what Cinco de Mayo is all about, and there were five possible answers to choose from.

39% said it’s Mexican Independence Day, which is wrong, 26% said it’s just a general celebration of Mexican-American culture, 13% said it’s all about DRINKING, and another 13% admitted they just had no idea.

Only 10% said it’s the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over France, which is the CORRECT answer. The Battle of Puebla happened on May 5th, 1862.

Mexican Independence Day is celebrated on September 16th.

Now you know.

The top three ways we plan to celebrate tomorrow are by eating Mexican food, drinking margaritas, and doing something to ACTUALLY celebrate Mexican culture. Drinking Mexican beer and throwing a party also made the top five.
