PRAYERS NEEDED for Mike Harwood 5 Aug 2019 3:39 PM (5 years ago)

Many of you may know Marsha (Huntzinger) Harwood from Marsha's Musings and Thankful Thursday. She would appreciate the prayer support for her hubby, Michael (Mike) Harwood, herself and their family. I don't have all the specific details of his hospitalization, but their daughter (Missy Harwood Lowery) gives nightly updates and specific prayer requests on Facebook (Marsha's and her's)

This must have happened towards the end of last week (the beginning of August). Here is one of the updates with the most info from August 2nd but I'm sure over the weekend there were more updates and changes. Once again I'm referring you to their Facebook pages (because I don't have Facebook) ~Peggy

Dad Update: Friday, August 2nd, 2019 from Missy

"It has been a roller coaster of events the past few days, and we are grateful for all the ways friends and family are checking in and praying, from all over.

Here is where we have landed as of now. I'm a bullet point type of person, so here we go.

*The basic gist is that we still don't know WHAT is causing this.

*For that reason, Dad is being moved (today) to a larger hospital in downtown Knoxville where there will be a team of specialist to try and trouble shoot the problem. (Neurology, Cardio, Pulmonologist, Rheumotologist....and.....)

*One of the specialist is the infectious disease doctor, which does seem to be the most likely culprit. It is possible that he contracted some sort of infection during his 6 weeks on the Appalachian Trail.

*Many of you have asked about Lymes disease and at this point they can't know that, but he is being treated with antibiotics that would cover a lot of things.

*WHATEVER is infecting his body appears to be presenting in many ways. I.E. what we thought was pneumonia, may not be pneumonia. High White Blood count that now looks abnormally normal. Heart attack that probably wasn't a heart attack. A massive stroke that was actually a long series of mini strokes happening over the course of several days. It appears that he had a large blood clot travel to the brain and burst. Most strokes are localized to one particular spot, but dad has 50-100 spots scattered throughout both sides of the brain, situated mostly in the back, but again, on both sides. They tell us this is very unusual.

*The burst blood clot caused him to lose his vision and also caused a massive amount of dementia type memory loss and confusion. That has been a very scary aspect to all of this. We are happy to report that as of this afternoon the fog is lifting and Dad is understanding more and conversing with us. His vision has improved some. Before he could only see light and silhouettes, but now he can make us out and see color (but not all colors). His eyes themselves are fine, this is a brain processing issue. We are unsure of the prognosis on that.

*In Summary- At this point they've done a good job at checking the major things and clearing them, and now have to focus on figuring out what the underlying cause is. There are things on the table, but at this time I'm not going to speculate until we get to the new hospital and see the new team of Doctors. The hospital he is going to is attached to a very well known stroke rehab clinic, so he will also be able to be seen there (in time).

*That's what we know. We are thankful that some of the scarier symptoms are looking a bit better this evening.

-Pray that there are no more blood clots waiting to do their nasty thing, and that this team of doctors are able to identify the underlying mystery illness that is causing all of this mayhem.

-Pray also for patience and strength for Dad, and for Mom as she cares for and keeps track of things.
-Pray for Dad's mental state to keep improving.
-Pray for Mom as she has had her own health issues this year.

My brother Adam and I are here through the weekend and taking turns staying at the hospital. We'd love to have some definitive answers and a plan of healing pretty soon!

It's very sad with all that is happening in our world that The Lighthouse of Prayer has not been active here when Prayer is so needed since we did "REMEMBERING SHORTYBEAR" {who kept this blog place filled and active with her prayers and requests}
It was at that time, I had the privilege to meet Marsha as we shared our farewell and grief together over Denise Oldham (Marsha is/was the first online blogger friend I've met in person) with Denise's husband, Eddie, her family and friends

On this National Day of Prayer, we look to You…

"Day-31 Teach me to Pray

Teach Me To Pray

When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, He gave them a simple 6 step pattern to follow. He didn’t intend for us to just pray the same words he spoke in Matthew 6:9, He intended it to be an outline for prayer. Use each verse of the Lord’s pray as a guideline to help keep your prayer-time on track. “Pray, then, in this way:”

Step 1

“Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.” This is the call to praise and worship. Take time to honor the Lord and consider His greatness. Remember His faithfulness to you and and be encouraged by His promises.

Step 2

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.” Align yourself with God’s will, and listen to know His desires. Proclaim God’s will over your life, family, church, the lost, etc. Wait and allow the Lord to share His heart and will with you.

Step 3

“Give us this day our daily bread.” Ask God for your needs and the needs of others. Be specific, and ask in faith for anything you know the Lord wants to give you (see step 2).

Step 4

“And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Ask God for forgiveness in any areas of known sin, and speak out forgiveness toward anyone you have not forgiven.

Step 5

“And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”Stand in the authority of Christ and resist the enemy in whatever way he is coming against you or against others.

Step 6

“For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.” Finish with proclaiming who God is and exalting His name. Take time to thank Him for the answers to come, and to worship Him as the Most High God. " Prayer Central by Kathleen Dillard

Try praying God's Word by using the scriptures given. Choose one or all or another that may come to you and simply turn the word into your prayer back to Him, for His Word will not return void (Isaiah 55:11) and there is power in His Word. I give you an example of this in my prayer in the comments for Day 11 (March 11).

Update: after half this month is over, trying out posting once again at the Lighthouse of Prayer, there seems to be no desire for any participation or interaction, more than the faithful prayer team members that pray (leaving prayers in the comments).

I will try to finish these links to Prayer Central for this devotional, but I see no reason to have a place of Prayer, if no one posts their Prayers.

This is why I have gathered these links to Prayer Central in one post rather than each one as a separate blog post. This also is the reason this blog went inactive for so long, because it's suppose to exist as an interactive place of PRAYER and when there are only a few prayers or people praying ... it seems that we have moved on to something else... this saddens me greatly!

So once again, it looks like we will return to our MIA status (which mean no more blog posts for your prayers) when the ABC's of Prayer is finished - praying from our own individual prayer closets and not stepping forward boldly together as a chord that won't be broken. Perhaps this is due to our going offline since 2014 ... so I will give this back to God.

Today (May 7th) is National Day of Prayer! Although we certainly should be praying for our nation more than just today ...

"The mission of the National Day of Prayer is to mobilize prayer in America

and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture."

Since "The Lighthouse of Prayer" is basically on its own and no longer being updated and maintained, it is still a place of prayer so we could/should not overlook this day and the need to join in and PRAY!

UPDATES and PRAYERS for DENISE ONLY 10 Nov 2014 5:00 AM (10 years ago)

Denise still needs PRAYERs even though she went home from hospital and the rehab center. She still has a rough road ahead of her and has been back to ER and hospital a few times since going home, so this battle is not over just because God helped her incredibly and miraculously through this crisis. She is currently using a walker and facing great difficulties still in all areas. Thank you for remembering her in your prayers constantly. (Jan. 2015)

I have decided to take the updates that were in the November Prayers for Denise Oldham (our sweet Shortybear) and Add them here for ALL, along with the prayers that I will try to update as needed. {sidenote: partly because her blog comments do not seem to be working, at least not for me}

If you have been around this Lighthouse of Prayer at all or for much time, you would know that Denise is one of our major prayer intercessors and such a warrior for others and her own family, friends and self. We cannot NOT join together and continue praying for her as she has kept this "Lighthouse" shining and much of blogland with her sweet loving smile and comments. When Denise was offline, she was so concerned that the "Lighthouse" would remain open... and shining so that was her first question to me when she came back online. Our Prayer Vigil for Denise is for as long as Denise needs it ... not 24 hours as most are

{update from Marsha on Denise is not good. Denise is on oxygen and all other kinds of monitors in intense pain from heart attack and 90% blockage. Only a MIRACLE will keep us from losing Denise} Continue to pray as the Spirit leads and God's will plus reduced pain. But we serve a MIRACLE working GOD and the battle turned the moment we join in PRAYER this cord of 3 ... and hopefully more PRAY for DENISE and her miracle at ...

I just read an update on Denise and the Dr. has decided to do surgery on her heart in the morning. Things are not going well. She is collecting fluid and her liver count is up. I read one update on Marsha Harwood's FB and Denise's niece Kellie had talked with Eddie and he told her about the surgery and what the drs. tell him. I will try to be here and put a prayer up for her. If anyone wants to join me that would be great. Denise is in God's hands and it's up to Him. He has brought her back before and He can do it again. Amen.

POST SURGERY UPDATE ON Denise Oldham from Marsha H.: I just spoke with Eddie on the phone. It appears our prayers have aligned with His will...we have a miracle woman in recovery!! He'll be able to go in and see her in about 30 minutes, but she won't be awake yet. They were able to repair 3 arteries, INCLUDING the aorta which they were uncertain about, in less time then they had anticipated! Now let's pray for her complete and full recovery! Eddie's gonna let me know when I can get in to see her. I would imagine the first 48-72 hours will be off limits, but we shall see.

Denise Oldham's Friday Update 11/14 from Marsha Harwood's Facebook:

"Denise's making small progress in some areas, but some areas of concern as well.

PROGRESS: She's off of all machines other than IV's and some breathing treatments. She was able to take a few spoonfuls of chocolate pudding today and able to use ... so her internal workings are awake from the surgery and functioning.

AREAS OF CONCERN: They don't understand why she's not staying awake for than a couple of minutes at a time. They tried to sit her up on the side of the bed but there was too much stiffness and lack of feeling on the right side of her body.. They will be running a test this evening or in the morning to see if she's possibly had a stroke. When she is momentarily awake, she's highly agitated...unlike our sweet Denise.

PRAY: Obviously, no stroke....her previous stroke 3 years ago was on her left side, this is her right that's having problems. Pray for Eddie. He's just wore out and overwhelmed with it all.

SAT A.M. 11/15

There's some concerns regarding congestion in her lungs and her laboring to cough it up and also to breath. She's now on a ventilator. A lung doctor will be running a tube down to check out her what's going on in her lungs. Evidently this is not just the normal congestion and trouble swallowing that can come post-op. There were some abnormalities that showed up in her blood work....enough to prompt the doctors to recheck her heart. ...

What is for sure is our Sweet Denise needs our prayers! She is not going in the direction of healing right now. ..."

MONDAY UPDATE 11/17/14 DENISE is still on the ventilator. It may be Tues. now until they wean her off. There's still fluid in her lungs to be drained. The ventilator is delivering much needed oxygen to entire body. She's resting comfortably, aware when others are with her, responds to questions - sometimes by writing it down on paper. So right now, it's just a wait and healing rest time for Denise.

Denise Oldham Evening Update: They remove all her tubes & she seems to be doing better! All vitals are stable. She is still having trouble sitting up on her own, but slowly but surely she will be able to leave ICU at some point. Also, Eddie did start work today. So, continued prayers.

Denise Oldham's Sunday, November 30 UPDATE - I was blessed to be able to spend the afternoon with our sweet Denise.She's been in the rehab center for a few days now. She's working very hard at her recovery, but she's very discouraged. She wants to go home to recover, but it's just not possible right now. She was initially told she might be in as long as 4 weeks. All the doctors and the case worker are meeting Monday to develop goals and a tentative release date to shoot toward... ~Marsha

Month after month, I add this same old "prayer request" post and pray.

The same sweet sisters in Christ share their heart and their prayers here. Somehow, this does not seem fair that they are interceding and no one joins in ... and I know we all have prayer needs or know people who do ... SO ... as much as this pains me, this may be the last post I do here.

We get more SPAM than we do PRAYERS or interceders or petitions. I have tried to keep this channel of PRAYER available but it seems to no avail. I have waited, watched and prayed along with them and for you.

BIG THANKS to my sisters in faith that kept on praying and I know that they still will be praying in Jesus' precious name. PRAYERS, PRAISE and THANKS to each one who invested in praying. To God be the glory!
