Visionkit Studios is executing on their vision for growth 10 Nov 2023 9:43 AM (last year)

That vision started coming to life earlier this year, with the addition of Stephani Norell as Executive Producer, and Isabel Sarhad as Creative Lead.

Stephanie and Isabel both joined Visionkit back in April (yes, I know I’m horribly tardy on that front). From the release about the hiring of these two talented individuals:

Stephani, with nearly two decades of experience in the industry, has joined Visionkit to lead the expansion of their services to include video production. During her tenure at Drake Cooper and North by Northwest Productions, she has successfully managed numerous campaigns and has gained extensive knowledge and expertise in producing high-quality photo and video content. In her new role at Visionkit, Stephani will be responsible for overseeing the entire production process, from planning and organizing client feedback to final delivery, ensuring every project is executed with precision and excellence.

Isabel’s journey in the field of design started during her time as a Marketing student at Boise State. She was able to leverage internships, coursework and her own personal pursuits in order to immerse herself in the fundamentals of design, internships, elective courses, and personal pursuits, she learned the fundamentals of design. After a two-year stint with the National Student Advertising Competition team, she discovered her passion for the creative side of advertising. Isabel then spent over three years at 116 and West, honing her skills in the ad industry before venturing into a marketing-centric role at Hummel Architects. With her vast experience in creative design, brand design, visual aesthetics, social media design, as well as marketing strategy and brand development, Isabel has now joined the team at Visionkit to offer her expertise.

Learn more about Visionkit, and see what they’ve been up to recently here.

Raucous Rockies 26 Apr 2023 7:21 AM (last year)

For those who may have missed it, the 2023 edition of the Rockies was held earlier this month. After a few years of virtual-to-subdued awards shows, this one felt like a return to something resembling normalcy, if such a thing exists anymore.

There were shenanigans, shameless self promotion, and a lot of ‘show’ to the awards show. A few highlights from the evening:

Duft Watterson took home Best of Show for their Idaho Transportation Department Motorcycle Safety campaign.

Duft Watterson, SOVRN, and Lovevery also won Regional ADDY awards, in addition to their respective Gold Rockies.

Kate Holgate of Stoltz Marketing Group was the recipient of this year’s IAF Silver Medal Award.

Congratulations to everyone who took home hardware at the end of the night. There’s a lot that goes into creating award-winning work, and I have long held the belief — and still do to this day — that the talent in, and the work coming out of the state of Idaho is just as good as what comes of larger, more recognizable places.

Some pictures and video others shared from the evening:

A full list of winners should be available on the Boise Advertising Federation’s website in the near future.

Call for Nominations: IAF Silver Medal Award 2 Mar 2023 10:20 AM (2 years ago)

After a hiatus for the past few years (can’t imagine why), the Idaho Advertising Federation is once again accepting nominations for the Silver Medal Award.

For those who aren’t familiar with the award:

The IAF Silver Medal Award is presented annually by the Idaho Advertising Federation to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to advertising by advancing the industry’s standards, demonstrating creative excellence, and promoting social welfare.

Following receipt of nominations, the IAF Board of Directors selects a regional panel of Idaho judges to review nominees based on the criteria that follow. Only one Silver Medal is awarded each year, and judges may elect not to award the Silver Medal in any given year.

The Silver Medal winner is announced at the annual Rockie Awards Banquet hosted by the Idaho Advertising Federation. The recipient’s name is listed with other winners throughout the nation for presentation to the National Conference of the American Advertising Federation.

More details about the award, and the nomination process, can be found on the Boise Advertising Federation’s website.

Nominations for this year’s award must be submitted by Friday, March 10th.

116 & West went north 21 Sep 2022 11:48 AM (2 years ago)

And came back with a new agency.

Boise-based 116 & West has acquired Klündt Hosmer, a Spokane, Washington-based agency of similar size that was founded in 1987 by Darin Klündt and Rick Hosmer.

In a statement about the acquisition, Darin Klündt said, “We have worked with thousands of organizations, created hundreds of brands, and guided visual communications for clients throughout the Inland Empire, and we’re excited to offer more robust full-service marketing with the additional resources and experience 116 & West provides.”

Also, from Carolyn Lodge, chief operating officer at 116 & West, “Klündt Hosmer’s design-centered approach, longevity in the market, and value proposition to a loyal client base made them an attractive addition to 116 & West, and Spokane is a city we love and have had roots in for many years.”

The four partners of Klündt Hosmer will remain with the company, as principals, with offices in the historic Commission Building in downtown Spokane.

This marks the second acquisition for 116 & West. As MMG, the agency acquired Davies Rourke in 2009. The newly-combined entity subsequently rebranded to DaviesMoore, which then took on its current 116 & West identity in early 2020.

On hiatus 9 Sep 2022 2:08 PM (2 years ago)

16 years is a long time.

Yes, dear friends, the Idaho Ad Agencies blog has been around for over 16 years.

When I started back in early March of 2006, the first tweet hadn’t been sent. Facebook was exclusive to colleges and universities, and YouTube was still in its infancy.

Oh how times have changed.

Nowadays there are plenty of ways to find the latest news from agencies, their work, job openings, promotions, and so much more. As such, this site’s usefulness has waned in recent years. A majority of posts have been based on information that I’ve found elsewhere online, and shared here as warranted.

But I’ll admit — I’m tired of feeling responsible for keeping the site fresh and active all the time. So I’m taking a break. For how long? Not sure.

Not to worry, however. The Idaho Ad Agencies site will be around for the foreseeable future. It’ll just be quieter than it already is. When there’s reason to, I’ll post updates as needed — say in the case of an acquisition or merger, or other noteworthy events.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for regular job opening information, I highly suggest subscribing to the Good Jobs Report, which is published regularly by Loren Morris. And for business news through the Treasure Valley and beyond, you can’t go wrong with what Don Day has created at BoiseDev.

Thanks for everything,
Brian

In memoriam: Shane Jibben 28 Jun 2022 2:24 PM (2 years ago)

North by Northwest recently shared the news that Shane Jibben passed away.

From the online tribute:

On June 5, 2022, Michael “Shane” Jibben, loving husband, father of two, and grandfather of one, passed away at the age of 68 after an all too quick and difficult battle with pancreatic cancer.

Shane was born on April 23, 1954 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Ernie and Hazel Jibben. While attending the University of South Dakota, he met the love of his life, Barbara (Manolis) Jibben. They married in May of 1978, and their two children, Mathew and Katy, were born in Rapid City before moving to Seattle in 1985. The family spent eight years there, where Shane and Barb built lifelong friendships and enjoyed being active in the community. The family moved to Boise in 1993, a place Shane loved to call home.

Shane put his family and friends first, and took pride in taking care of others. He served as manager of North by Northwest Productions, a film and video productions agency, for 25 years. There, he was honored to lead his team not only professionally, but personally. Shane made lunch for his employees and clients nearly every day, a simple gesture that spoke volumes to his giving nature. He had a passion for music, played multiple instruments including guitar, banjo, and accordion–most self-taught–and was a collector of Beatles memorabilia. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, going on walks near the Boise River Greenbelt, playing music and studying music theory, taking on household projects with his wife, volunteering as the Maintenance Director on his HOA Board of Directors, and being an active member in the Rocky Mountain Highrailers model train club. Shane was known for his quick wit, his kind and compassionate spirit, and his love for family.

Shane was preceded in death by his son, Mathew, his parents, Ernie and Hazel, and his sister Lana. He is survived by his wife Barb, his daughter Katy son-in-law Adam, his granddaughter Kennedy, his grand-dog and walking buddy Moose, and his six sisters and their many family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 12th, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Barber Park Event Center, 4049 S. Eckert Road, Boise, Idaho, 83716. In lieu of flowers or other memorials, please consider donating to the Mathew Jibbensmith Scholarship Fund at Pacific Lutheran University via the following link where you will find information for donating in Shane’s honor: plu.edu/tribute

Deepest condolences to Shane’s family and friends.
