What’s plastic surgery got to do with Tina Turner? George Lindemann Fri, 07/18/2008 - 10:40
Tina Turner looks amazingly good for a 68-year-old woman. The rock n’ roll icon’s good looks just keep on rockin’, which other speculate to be the result of some plastic surgery makeovers.
The multi-awarded singer was recently seen performing live with Beyonce Knowles. And the difference in age and looks was just too glaring to ignore. Beyonce, who is decades younger than Tina, looks as though she had gone under the knife several times compared to her older dance partner.
Nobody knows for sure if Tina Turner has had work on her face and body. One thing is for sure though. She looks really amazing with age and if ever she has had plastic surgery in the past, it was done so well that the results look very natural.
For instance, Tina’s neck doesn’t have all the sagging that women would normally have on their necks when they reach 60. So we can safely presume that she may have had a very subtle facelift to minimize sagging. It can also be observed that Tina’s skin is uber smooth. It is likely that she also had chemical peels or even laser treatments. But then again, she must have done it in a very subtle way so the results are very natural-looking.
It is also amazing to note that Tina Turner doesn’t have much crow’s feet around her eyes. Women her age would normally have that, so it is highly possible that Tina made use of Botox injections in order to lessen the appearance of those nasty lines around the eyes.
Not only is Tina looking great, her voice also seems to have not waned as time passes by. She is still the same music icon we have always loved and admired. It looks like the title of ‘timeless beauty’ goes to Tina Turner hook, line and sinker.
Depression caused by botched plastic surgery George Lindemann Wed, 07/16/2008 - 10:49
There has been a huge increase of botched plastic surgery patients who have who are found to have imaginary deformities caused by body image disorders according to many psychiatrists.
Body dysmorphia – an obsession with appearance that makes sufferers turn to excessive plastic surgery because of perceived defects – have been observed in a growing number of patients aged 13 to 70.
The patients often manifest excessive worry over their facial features, breasts, body hair, and perceived genital deformities. And 90% of them want plastic surgery, and about 40 percent already went under the knife.
However, the disorder doesn’t stop with one plastic surgery procedure. More often than not, the patients go through repeated procedures but still feel ugly. Worse, when the procedures fail, it means more suffering to the already unstable patient.
There is now a need to really screen patients who are planning to undergo plastic surgery. Experts say that perhaps 15% of patients who are visiting plastic surgeons might be suffering from the disorder. But some doctors still operate on them, worsening their case.
Health experts are also aware that botched plastic surgery can be very devastating to the patient. Seeing people who have been terribly disfigured after a failed procedure is enough to conclude that these poor patients have been scarred for life and the trauma left by these incidents could very well be the cause of depression and anxiety.
The cause of body dysmorphia is unknown but many experts are pointing at the media and the social pressure to be young and beautiful as major factors.
No plastic surgery for Julie Walters George Lindemann Mon, 07/14/2008 - 01:00
British actress Julie Walters admits that she likes fantasizing about having a nip or tuck, but just doesn’t have the courage to actually do it.
The star of Mamma Mia! expressed her sentiments to the press concerning plastic surgery. While she seems to be not against plastic surgery, the actress confessed that she has promised herself no to take that road.
Julie Walters is letting the world know that she hasn’t anything done yet on her face and body.
“I think I would let myself down if I had anything done. I understand why people do it, though,” Walters told The Mirror. “There isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t think ‘If I just did that’, ‘just a little…’”
“I wouldn’t let my hair grow out grey though because that would depress me - but I am not bothered about lines. They are a part of my life. My husband isn’t bothered and if I have to have some kind of work done to be attractive to a person, then I just don’t want it.”
Meryl Streep, another Mamma Mia! star also expressed her views on plastic surgery just days ago. Meryl is planning to grow old naturally, and it seems Julie Walters will do the same thing.
Meryl Streep thinks one can get old gracefully George Lindemann Fri, 07/11/2008 - 01:00
Veteran Hollywood actress Meryl Streep is quite surprised in a bad way with the way things are going in Hollywood especially on the issue of men going under the knife. According to WENN, the actress has criticized the trend of having more and more men getting plastic surgery for enhancing their appearance. The actress insisted that everyone should quit the habit and accept their age.
It is now an accepted fact that men are opening up to the call of beauty through surgery. But it seems that Meryl Streep is still not very open to the idea of having those alpha males swallow their pride by asking for a little outside help on their wrinkles and other imperfections.
“You'd be amazed how many men in the industry have gone down that road," she said. "I don't get it.”
Meryl Streep claims to be untouched with plastic surgery. The 59-year-old actress takes pride in her natural beauty and wonders why an increasing number of people, both men and women, are turning to plastic surgery as a way to stay young.
The star of the upcoming feel-good flick Mamma Mia stressed that real actors should begin to realize now that better roles are coming to those who belong to the older set of artists.
“The good thing about getting older is that when they do cast you it's often something interesting - you're no longer asked to be the beautiful leading lady,” she emphasized.
While others view that getting old means getting grandma or grandpa roles, Streep has a different perspective. She said that older actors are given the chance to play roles that “examine all the idiosyncrasies people have."
Streep is not planning to get any surgery anytime soon. She even advised her fellow artists to “embrace getting older and celebrate life.”
Gynecomastia gone in hours George Lindemann Wed, 07/09/2008 - 01:00
There is a quick-fix procedure suited for men who are complaining about their large man breasts - a condition known as gynecomastia.
Plastic surgery experts recently attended the Health Asia 2008 Exhibition and Conference on Cosmetic Surgery at the Karachi Expo Centre. In here, discussions about the latest achievements in cosmetic surgery have been discussed and highlighted.
One of the highlights of the conference is the discussion of the methods in order to address the medical anomaly known as gynecomastia. Breast reduction surgery is mainly the procedure used to deal with this issue. And plastic surgeons are still on the process of finding more convenient ways to address this, especially on techniques that require lesser downtime for the patient. The cosmetic procedures for gynecomastia take one or two hours and can be performed under local or general anesthesia.
Women, on the other hand, are haunted by underdeveloped breasts and flabby tummies. These concerns were also tackled in the conference. Both conditions can be rectified through breast enhancement and liposuction or tummy tuck, granted that the patient meets the necessary requirements prior to the surgery.
Dr. Humayun Mohmand, managing director of the Hair Transplant Institute, warned that everyone should go to the right surgeon for the procedure. He also stressed that procedures like hair transplant should be considered an art more than a science because it takes expertise and creativity to understand that the patient’s culture and race are important in the procedure.
The conference paved the way for surgeons to share their knowledge and expertise especially in dealing with issues that affect the bodies of both men and women.
Surgeons discuss trends in plastic surgery George Lindemann Mon, 07/07/2008 - 01:00
Dr. Bharat Shah, a board-certified plastic surgeon at St. John’s Clinic shares the highlights discussed in the recently held meeting of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons in San Diego. In the conference, plastic surgeons from around the country and the world, met to share technologies and experiences.
When asked about the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures for men, Shah answered that men are more open to procedures that offer natural results with minimal downtime. Some of these common procedures are Botox, mini-facelifts, laser skin resurfacing, hair replacement, and liposuction.
For women, Shah stressed that breast augmentation remains to be the top surgical procedure in the list. More so that women now have more options when it comes to their favorite cosmetic surgery. One of the fast rising trends right now is the “mommy makeover” which includes a tummy tuck, breast enhancement and liposuction to help new moms gain back their pre-pregnancy figure.
According to Dr. Shah, the number of teenagers seeking cosmetic surgery is increasing. The usual trend is that parents bring their teens for a consultation. At that time, the plastic surgeon will discuss the issues surrounding the problem and its surgical solution. Realistic expectations and the best time for the procedure are also discussed. Breast augmentation should only be administered to women 18 years old and above.
Dr. Shah also discussed a sensitive topic – labiaplasty – a procedure that aims to reduce the protrusion of the female genitalia. Shah revealed that labiaplasty is a common procedure in the West Coast though it is not commonly requested in his region.
Dr. Shah also talked about body contouring procedures and how a large number of patients are seeking shapely curves and legs, triggered by the trend of lean and healthy men and women seen on TV, and magazines.
Plastic surgery around the globe George Lindemann Fri, 07/04/2008 - 01:00
A shocking global survey reveals that almost half of the women around the world would change their looks if they could. Now, that suggests plastic surgery is really a global trend. On the darker side, this goes to show that women are really so drawn to the concept of getting great looks in order to be successful in life.
Synovate reports that 40% of the women surveyed would like to change their looks if they had the money.
The survey was conducted by asking a sample of over 7,000 people from various countries such as Brazil, Bulgaria, Korea, Spain, South Africa, and the United States about how they defined beauty. The purpose of the research was to find out where people from different cultures see themselves on the beauty scale, and whether they would change anything about their looks.
The results show that one in five people will go under the knife as long as they can afford it. Thirty-five percent said that beauty is what’s on the inside and that looks don’t really cover the entirety of the concept. Another 32 percent said that they can be beautiful as long as they have confidence and they know how to carry themselves properly.
Overall, 19% of the respondents across the globe would undergo plastic surgery in order to enhance their appearance. Among all the races, Brazilians are the most enthusiastic when it comes to looking good and would go through incisions just to get it. 12% of men and a quarter of all women stressed that they would have cosmetic or plastic surgery if they can afford it.
We can clearly see that the trend of looking good and feeling good is a global affair.
