Post-script: got the Arctic Cooling anyway, used it as an excuse to dump the 802.11n card for powerline-ethernet, which was already installed for another PC.

I'm not a fan of water cooling but this does sound like an appropriate place to implement it. A water block for the GPU would be significantly smaller than a HSF.

In order to ensure that the flat head bolts in the top sheet would sit perfectly straight and flush, I drilled slightly over-size through holes in the top u-channel so a hex nut could go onto the ends...

Drilled out the holes for the vandal resistant switches and fastened the front sheeting to the case.
